58 /100 30 SMALLBROOK ROAD At the top end of Shaw amongst houses just before they give way to the foothills of the Pennines, this is very much a locals Sam Smiths pub but with a classic period style decor that’s very pleasant. It’s a multi-room affair in its own building that’s easily missed as there’s not too much signage until you get right up on it. The Sam Smiths selection includes some of the craft arm bottles brewed in Stamford. |
64 /100 Shay Wake (JDW) (Bar) 2 - 10 MILNROW ROAD In a corner building in the small gritty town centre of Shaw, this is a small but busy Wetherspoon pub in a single ground floor room. The doors are not quite central to the place but there’s a small seating area to the right as you walk in (which was reserved for a party on my visit), and a larger funky area to the left. The bar is against the back wall beyond the larger seating section and includes only one row of ales. |
54 /100 SHAWCROFT CL Sandwiched in between the adjoining Greater Manchester conurbations of Shaw and Royton, this Sam Smiths pub is in a fairly odd place, away and not visible from the main road between the two places and in the midst of a very middle class low-rise housing area. It’s away from the road enough for you not to be able to hear it from the couple of tables placed out front of self-standing building. The car park is to the pubs side. You can find a fair number of the Sam Smiths brews here if you’re looking for beer ticks but essentially this is a locals pub with a best side and a bar side (includes a dart board) with a central serving area. |
