“Swung by on a Friday afternoon, hung out for a while. Some really nice beers across a number of styles. Either here or Discourse was my favorite brewery on the Kansas side (it's close). The Pathlight stuff I had at Oak & Steel would put them up there as well. In any event, very good brewery here.“

“Swung by on a Thursday afternoon. 6 oz pours, had an IPA, a Dubbel and an adjunced lager. No real standouts but everything well done. Worth a stop if chasing Kansas ticks.“

“Visited on a Saturday night, I believe they opened one week ago. Parking is street, or public lots in the vicinity of downtown Shawnee. Sparkly remodel of a hardware store, with 4 small outside tables, an interior with a thin room to the right with high top window seating, and various areas to sit in the main room. Music themed, with a neat cassette tape wall. Order at the bar, 4 house beers on, available as half or full pours. Absolutely jammed with happy people. I didn’t notice food, though it seemed you could bring food in. Good addition to downtown Shawnee, which now has 3 breweries and a world class cocktail bar all more or less on the same corner. (Locals should check it out, visitors who are in the area) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Owned by the female head brewer who does not drink sours but brews plenty of then for her partner; their son makes the soda. Lots of fruited sours and IPAs, a bit too milkshaky for me but tasty enough. Small place in an old storefront, small bar and some restaurant tables. Food is delivery from the neighborhood pizzeria. Decent place.“

“My favorite beers in all of Kansas. In a strip mall, so there's lots of parking. Some outdoor seating. Long bar and lots of restaurant tables. Taplist projected on one wall included the usual IPAs, a couple of stouts, and some pretty amazing funky saisons on tap and in bottles. We had a great time splitting bottles with the locals. Staff were very knowledgeable and had great recommendations. Fancy snax included things like hummus and a charcuterie plate, but no actual meals; good restaurants in the area though. I didn't see any dogs or kids, can't comment on that. If you like funk, this is th place for you.“

“Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Located In a worn down strip mall, with tons of parking on both sides of the Brewery. The interior of the Brewery is quite large, with bar seating, high and low top tables and a nice outdoor seating area. Several heaters out there for the winter months. The beer selection is 8 house beers on draft available as full or half pours. There was also a bottle conditioned Saison available and a house made Black Current seltzer. 16 oz cans of some beers and 750 ml bottle growlers available to go. Music played at a good level, fun crowd, great service. Fun place to hang and have a beer. No food available the day I was here, but did advertise food trucks on some days, and you can order in from local spots (including Haywards BBQ across the street). (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“New brewery in Shawnee. Bright and airy with plenty of room to spread out (social distance). Open just a few weeks now. Food truck on hand. Excellent service and excellent beer.“

“Visited an hour before closing on a Sunday evening with my (extended) family. Located a block from Transport in downtown Shawnee. I found street parking, though I believe there is also a lot available. The design of the room feels like an old time soda fountain, with tables throughout and the bar in the back corner. Servaes has the reputation of brewing creative beers, and when I visited this was certainly the case. All of the beers had unusual ingredient additions, and all I tasted were well executed. Generally, I am not a fan of gimmicky beers, but this place was able to pull it off in an interesting way. Beer selection was a Mango Milkshake IPA, a Lime Salt Lager and 4 different shandies with interesting ingredients. Available as full pours, tasters, or a 4 beer taster. Cans are available to go, and releases have been popular. In addition to beer, they also have craft sodas, and nearby Old Town Pizza will deliver food. Laid back vibe, super friendly people. (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited an hour before closing on a Sunday evening with my (extended) family. Right in downtown Shawnee, with parking either street in front, or lot in the back. Located a block from Servaes. My mother-in-law grew up in the area and was very excited to see both Transport and Servaes open and doing well. Beer selection is 7-8 house beers, available as full pours, tasters or taster sampler trays. Beer is also available to go in single or 4 pack cans. Service was prompt and friendly. Food available from Sancho Street Side, nachos I had were tasty. Generally, I really liked the design of this place (particularly the beautiful shared table in the center of the room) and the overall vibe was relaxing. I’ll be back for sure. (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Saturday afternoon visit. Located in the "Old" Shawnee district. About 10 beers on tap and 8 beers to go. Very busy for mid-afternoon. Very friendly service. Prices a bit on the high side. All 4 beers that I tried were excellent. A good number of people were coming in and buying beers to go. Flights of 4 available. Seems to be a brewery on the rise.“

“I stop here at least once a month to check out new arrivals. Decent selection and usually a gem or two. Prices are in line with the area. Service can be spotty, but if you ask, they are glad to help. Worth a visit if you are in the area.“

“Visited on a Wednesday evening. Beat up store in a beat up strip mall. Parking in lot in front. This was a bars on the windows kind of place. The beer selection is macro and only the most common craft . No service sought or offered. I hit this during a tour of recently added beer stores in the area to check it out.

“Incredible selection of beers. Unbelievable they were able to get not only Black Note, but also Barrel Aged 355 E Stout w/vanilla and barrel aged Neptune. You never see these on tap outside of the Bell’s brewery unless you are at a special Bell’s takeover. Food and service were very good. I would definitely recommend for any beer lovers, especially if they are doing a special tapping.“

“Visited late morning on Boulevard Saison Brett release day (Tuesday). Smaller store, though the beer selection was solid. Most of the beer is warm on shelves, though quite a bit of craft six packs in the cooler. Above average availability of harder to find Evil Twin and other seasonal / special release offerings. Both of the employees I spoke with were knowledgeable, and very friendly. There is no single selection, so if you are from out of town might not be your best bet. For locals that live on this side, certainly a store to put in your rotation.“

K-7 Liquors (Beer Store)

“Visited mid afternoon on a Sunday. Big suburban general purpose liquor store, though with a nice focus on beer. There were approximately 12 cooler doors of craft, as well as two long aisle racks of large bottles. The mix a six was impressive, featured a wide selection of recently arrived breweries as well as seasonal. Beer selection in general is above average, with most high demand breweries available, along with a few special releases that others stores are sold out of already. Nice store, certainly would be in regular rotation if a touch closer to me.

“There are maybe one or two stores who have a better cold beer selection in in KCK and two or three stores that have a better selection in general. This is the best beer store in Shawnee“

“Not far from my house, so this is the mainstay for my wife and I. The bartenders are fantastic and ready to help when you want to try something new or different. Good rotating beer selection and many good brews that are there all the time. Servers and food are good for the price. They don’t gouge you with their prices. Last night I got a pint glass of Boulevards limited release Chocolate Ale for $3.50. A friend told me his local bar had 10 ounce glasses for $9.45. Way to go Barleys! If you are in the area, it is hard to beat.“

“I have been to the Barley’s Brewhaus in Shawnee several times, most recently midweek for a pint. The beer list is online here - http://shawnee.barleysbrewhaus.com/menu/beer-menu/ (no idea when last updated). Similar to the other Barleys location, the interior is Brewerania themed, with a nice classy wood panel feel. The bar area of this location is more separated from the restaurant than the other location. The beer selection is more or less the same as the Overland Park, though each location does different events - which can lead to some left over taps at one versus the other. If you are a local, this spot is worth hitting. If you are an out of towner, this place is probably only worth hitting if you are already on this side of town.

“Visited around noon midweek before a haircut in the area. The store has a pretty standard layout, with most of the beers in the coolers, with a few featured beers sitting out on racks. They have an impressive single selection, seeming to single out more or less every beer they have - prices were pretty decent on these beers as well. I didn’t see anything too rare or interesting, though that is more of a Kansas distribution issue. I did not request, or receive any help, though the checkout folks were friendly. I’ll certainly head back if I am looking for a single or two.

“Have only visited once, but I was pleasantly surprised by the selection. they recently expanded for the second time, so it’s a pretty good size store now. This might be a place you can find limited release Smokestack beers or similar offerings that fly off the shelves elsewhere -- you might still be able to find a bottle or several here of that sort of thing, sometimes even months down the line. Conveniently located near my in-laws’ place. Prices were average to very good. That said, I wouldn’t really recommend anyone visiting KC make a special trip all the way here.“

“Have visited this place many times over the years. Sort of upscale corporate brewpub feel (although it’d be properly referred to as a gastropub nowadays), rather conveniently located for folks in western Johnson County, Lenexa, Shawnee, etc., maybe even Olathe. It’s got 100 taps, usually featuring at least 1 beer that almost anyone would want pretty badly. Has had its share of stocking problems in times gone by, I’ve literally ordered a beer, then was told it was out, ordered another, told it was out, ordered another and told it was out. Not cool. Menu is re-worked every couple of years or so, and IMO the best thing here are the burgers. They are damn tasty. Service is hit or miss, I’ve had both great and mediocre servers. This is a great stop for anyone with a jones for craft beer on tap.“

“On a recent trip to KC, I was pleased to find this bar easy to get to with it being so close to I-435. The tap selection was solid with lots of seasonals and a few limited release brews. The bottle selection was also nice with a well stocked cooler. The beer menu was organized by beer style and I actually found it much easier to read than those that just have lists by country or by brewer. The food sampled was excellent and served very quickly. I will definitely return when in the area. I found it to be a clean and comfortable bar.“

“This store is in the same strip center that my son takes guitar lessons in. I stopped in for a bottle of wine for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the beer selection. A lot of bombers, mostly American. Great Divide, Schlafly, Boulevard, Bear Republic, etc. Not a beer destination, but one of the better stores in this part of town. They have one guy who is pretty knowledgeable about beer.“

“Prior to the opening of Flying Saucer, had the best selection of beer in the KC area. Soon to be a New Belgium Lips of Faith bar. They have recently started doing a monthly beer tasting that unfortunately have not had good attendance.“
