Plough (Bar)
26 BROADWAY,
“Main road public house with a fine traditional older styling and atmospheric for it - despite this practically empty on the Friday night I visited. This probably accounts for just a few clips on quite a few hand pulls at the bar, but good choices nevertheless.“

Anvil Inn (Bar)

“Traditional style brightly decorated pub a couple of minutes walk along the road immediately on the north side of the railway station and tracks. Very busy on the Friday night I visited, and had the best selection of cask of all the venues visited in Shifnal. Some were Black Country regulars but several guests ales available too.“

“Traditional urban pub in its own building on the main road on the northern side of the town centre. A locals place, Marston ales and often seen ones - my Banks's Mild tasted fine enough.“

“Convivial one-room venue on the main street just to the north of the railway bridge. The owner is very welcoming and provides a decent selection of cask and there's some keg options too. Perhaps of interest is the extensive craft can selection available here from all parts of the UK. Check out the literature for this as they must be kept somewhere else in the building as they are not on show.“

Odfellows Wine Bar (Restaurant)
MARKET PLACE,
“The Market Place is no more than a bulge in the main road around the railway station area, and I struggled to find this place, possibly as it has been renamed Latimer's Wine Bar, which is a bright convivial place but holds little beer interest with some regularly seen keg options in here.“

Anvil Inn (Bar)
22 ASTON ROAD
“This has become a regular Sunday afternoon visit for me since it was taken over by Black Country Inns. All their pubs seem spotless, neat and tidy, this one very mush so. It's a proper friendly local with a decent changing selection of Real Ales and Ciders alongside the usual keg suspects and their own range of Black Country Ale. Large garden round the back and a pleasant single room (been knocked through from a former labyrinth or smaller rooms) with a choice of comfortable furnishings to sit on. Real fire when needed, dog friendly and just 'a nice pub'. Hot baps and Pork Pies are their biggest food sellers, other stuff also available.“

“Visited with the wife, Bertie the Dog and Sister-in-Law Susan on Sunday 22nd August 2021. The single roomed place was heaving with humanity and we had to sit outside as there was no room at the inn. Decent cask and keg offerings, I picked up two Polly's ticks and could have found more rates if I wished too, didn't even get to the fridges. I will return at a quieter time and maybe notice the decor and other finer points about the place.“

“A newly established micropub on the main street in Shifnal (west side, very near station). Much wooden panelling in evidence, including table separators with stained glass inlays ! There are only five tables, but the place seems much bigger than that implies – maybe because they are of assorted shapes / sizes. There is also an upstairs section, but I didn’t go there. There are four handpumps prominent on the bar, but the range is fairly pedestrian. On my visit there were two from Wye Valley, for example. The prices are very reasonable, and the quality of my stout was excellent. There are also 8 craft keg taps but they are in the rear wall, and it was difficult to see what they were serving. I don’t remember a beer list anywhere. There is a fridge full of craft cans which can be inspected. However, the prices are horrendous. Having ordered direct from breweries recently, I knew how much they paid for some of them as well ! Friendly staff and customers. Willing to rearrange themselves to give you space. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Shifnal, but maybe not worth deviating too far from any planned route. “

“A welcome addition to the wider Telford micropub scene, Kings Yard (no apostrophe) seems to tick all the boxes for what you'd expect for a modern small micropub. Four cask handpulls with two local bitters and a more experimental stout, plus a good array of keg lines. Scaffold shelving supports a very decent range of gins, for which I have very little interest in. Double fridge has a truly excellent range of cans and bottles. Big emphasis on sour and fruit beers here, especially on tap. Some welcome background music at a polite volume. Great place, with owners passionate about modern craft beer. Long may they succeed.“

Plough (Bar)
26 BROADWAY,
“Visited after a walk through the countryside nearby on the recommendation of a CAMRA friend. Nice old, time-worn feel about the place with low beams and traditional decor. Around eight regional handpull and two ciders with some nondescript fizzy lagers to the right. My attention was drawn to the Belgian beer bottle list, but unfortunately despite around 12-15 listed, only 4 were available. When I asked for one by name, no one knew what I was talking about, and when one was found it was long out of date. Seems they aren't big sellers here. Finally one Belgian beer was found with 2 weeks Best Before left. I imagine with the cask range, this is what the pub is known for and probably has the largest range in the town. But after the shitty attitude received from staff on arrival I doubt I will be back any time soon.“

“Visited on Saturday afternoon 3rd June 2017, sat outside in the sun. Basic boozer with two inside areas where the central bar serves beers from the Banks’s/Marston’s breweries. Decor wise its that ’rough and ruined by design’ look with plaster missing to reveil brickwork and mortar. Nothing wrong with the place, a locals bar really but everyone is pleasant and the beer is always in good order. Been a few times over the years, but would never have added it to the RateBeer Data Base because it offers nothing you can’t get elsewhere in the area.“

Plough (Bar)
26 BROADWAY,
“Visited as working locally, and to try their own beer, but as at 8th Feb 17 they said the brewery had been "moth balled". So from that perspective a "wasted trip", however they did have a great selection of local and regional beers on their 10 Hand Pumps (including 2 ciders), so maybe not a waste trip after all. nice friendly staff, free wifi made it an enjoyable experience. Worth going to if in the area.“

Odfellows Wine Bar (Restaurant)
MARKET PLACE,
“More food and wine sold here than beer, but it’s a pleasant enough place with two distinct drinking areas as well as the raised restaurant seating. Usually four hand-pulls with local beers on, plus the usual suspects on the keg lines. Staff are a bit standoffish and aloof, especially the females. Happy Hour doesn’t seem to make them very happy, even if no one else is in the place like the last time I was in there (16th Nov 2016). Beer quality not an issue, never had a bad pint in there.“

Odfellows Wine Bar (Restaurant)
MARKET PLACE,
“Visited on Saturday 12th March 2016. A couple of minutes away from the station this is a bar/restaurant which is popular with the locals. Half of the place is given over to dining and the rest the bar. It was busy so asked if we could sit in the fairly empty restaurant and were refused. This is a bugbear of mine. 4 beers on handpulls plus quite a few lagers etc. A small but strange bottle range with beers from Clown Shoes in the fridge. Staff weren’t very friendly or accommodating and service was poor. Beer was decent though. The layout also isn’t the best with quite a tight squeeze along the bar, which if busy is a bit of a pain. It’s interesting and I’d like to go again but won’t be rushing back.“

“Visited on Saturday 12th March 2016. The pub is between the Plough and the White Hart. It’s got a large area with seats out the front and inside has lots of rooms to hide away in. 6 beers on from the Marston’s stable. The ones we tried were well kept. Staff were friendly and the prices were cheap. A good place to go looking for a seasonal or something new from the range but not a great beer destination. It’s a decent enough pub for a pint though.“

Plough (Bar)
26 BROADWAY,
“Visited on 12th March 2016. A few minutes from the station and you arrive here. Nice old pub with lots of nooks and crannies to sit in. Place is popular with locals for food and drink. Good range of beer on the bar. Had a pint of the Broadway IPA which is brewed on site. According to staff it’s a separate business so not well advertised by the pub. All the beer we tried in good condition. Good service. Would go back again. The best pub in Shifnal.“

Plough (Bar)
26 BROADWAY,
“This place was a thriving pub years ago and then turned into a Portuguese/Mediterranean Chicken Restaurant before re-inventing it’s self back into a pub. Small frontage opens up on entering and the long thin corridor along side the actual bar takes you to another drinking area, a large covered smoking patio, garden and huge function room. Good selection of rotating local and not so local Real Ales, always in good condition. There is now a small brewing plant hidden away to the rear, so one of their own beers may well be available if you should pop in. Good value food too. Pleasant staff and customers make this a regular haunt of mine.“
