“Swung by for a flight late in the cruise stop. Cromulent beers, the spruce tip blonde is pretty ubiquitous in Skagway and is quite good, not worth going out of your way for but if you're in Skagway, you're by definition out of the way of everything unless you're looking for gold in the late 19th century.“

“Nice location. Bar is in the back left. They come to you to take your order. Selection is their own beer, most were average, a couple were good.“

“Again agreeing with coachd, running against the clock for our embarking time for the cruise, the menu was slightly more appealing to me than the Skagway Brewing, had to rush through my tasters.“

“Very touristy even for Alaska. Service was very friendly and they seemed to be doing good business but I wasn't a big fan of their beers. Very safe "people pleaser" styles, nothing really stood out to me.“

“They should have a higher rating. Nice gold rush-looking interior, friendly service (although everyone was friendly in AK), great beers, not a lot of styles but what they had was well made.“

“Outside a period piece, inside an early 90's restaurant/ brewpub. Very outdated inside. Service was good for a busy lunch and 3 cruise ships in dock. Food was meh, Barleywine was good. Small selection and more cruise ship geared. Friendly staff and nice gift shop.“

“Felt more authentic than Skagway Brewing. More the 1890's saloon period piece that Skagway is. Suffers from the 36oz law that Alaska has. Has some limited food but not very interesting. Beers were solid. Imperial Stout and Spuce Ale were good. Small range however. huge gift shop. Worth watching as they do have some grand plans to do more stuff in future.“

“Go at night when all the locals and peeps that work in Skagway are there. More interesting than at lunch when all the cruise peeps are there. very different vibe. Mostly Alaskan beers on tap when there. Did have Victory at sea and Bigfoot on tap. Otherwise very safe list. Service was burnt out from the season. They acted with little care. Food was average at best.“

“OK, It's Skagway. Home of cruise ships. it's not a bad shop as had Midnight Sun, Anchorage, Baranof, and other Alaska locals. Decent lower 48 selection with SN and Elysian. prices were $1-$2 higher than normal as cruise ship peeps get charged more and Skagway is a bit remote. if on a cruise ship its great little stop. if in a car can find better selection and elsewhere somewhere else on trip.“

“Brand new place this year, so a fairly limited beer and food menu (5 items and 3, respectively). Part of that is due to the strange Alaskan laws forcing them to be a club rather than a bar. That said, the beer was solid, the decor nice and the little outdoor patio was relaxing, even in the light sprinkle. Definitely the better of the two breweries in Skagway all the way around.“

“The museum and brothel tour are more exciting than the food. The servers are all decked out in period clothing, and definitely get into the spirit. Its a good time, and they have an impressive amount of taps of decent beer, Deschutes to Alaskan, mostly Pacific NW stuff. A fun stop with decent beer.“

“It's the most fun you can probably have with alcohol in this tiny town. You're probably here because you were on a cruise ship, let's be honest, so it's a welcome break from the 5 beers they have on the boat. A handful of house beers, a few guest taps, and full liquor. Decent bar food with a seafood flare. Pricey, but everything in tourist towns is.“

“Nice getting off the cruise ship a getting to visit a local brewpub in a tiny Alaskan town. Four house brews plus their 2015 Barleywine on draft. I wished they bottled. Excellent service sitting at the bar when they opened at 11 AM. Barleywine was very good and I really enjoyed my short visit before I had to leave for an excursion.“

“I actually went into their smaller store near Skagway Brewing looking for something local. The guy working told me to try this store on my way back to the cruise ship. He seemed very knowledgeable and in fact was working on their next order. I went back to this store after visiting Skagway Brewing and did find some Midnight Sun and other Alaska locals.“

“Comes off as a better museum than bar/resturant. The tour is pretty interesting actually. Our server was the only male and not in period costume, kinda disappointed as the ladies were decked out having a good time and providing fun service. Our server was not very good in general. Food was pedestrian but decent enough tap selection. Good place to have a beer in a fun environment,“

“Visited August of 2014. It was extremely busy and had a nice mix of locals and tourists. The beer wasn’t bad, though on our visit they were out of Spruce Tip Ale. The food was excellent, especially after having to eat cruise ship fare. The seafood was very fresh. Definitely a place to check out if you’re in Skagway.“

“One of two breweries in this small Alaskan town. On the edge of town and only a 20 minute walk or so from the pier where most people will probably come from. Rather large place but certainly gets busy when the ships are in. Even with full staff the place is a bit chaotic. Nice deck outside and rather large dining area with a game room on the second floor. First floor has a gift shop as well. Really good food for a brewery with several of the items having been made with beer. Lot of local food items as well which is understandable and a good change of pace. Beer selection is rather good with a good variety of beers including one made from spruce tips which was something completely different for me. Beer is reasonable priced but food is rather expensive. Par for the course in Skagway so I can’t ding it to much on value. Old time building with lots of exposed wood. A good place to hang out, eat and drink beer.“

“We were lucky to have arrived on a busy afternoon right before the start of the Klondike Road Relay. Got seats at the bar in the nick of time; within ten minutes it was standing room only. The running teams and their friends created a loud and lively atmosphere and it was a big party inside. Porter was good but the IPA was out of this world! I even told a perfect stranger at the bar how yummy it was, and he thought I was a goofball. Unfortunately they had run out of the spruce tip beer, which the bartender said was awesome. Generally a very cool and memorable place with a great vibe and good beer. Alaska rules.“

“Lively place, quite busy on my visit. Unlike Gold Rush, they are open year-round, but I suspect for most people that’s a moot point. It was early September and they’d run through almost all of their beer, so only two house offerings on tap. Service was hit or miss - a couple bartenders were great, but another came on shift and struggled to acknowledge our existence.“

“Okay, not a bad place but limited taps lead me only to Chilkoot IPA, Blue Top Porter and Spruce Tip Ale. Friendly serviceable staff came fairly quick to serve me. Fairly clean and a well kept place. I had a mushroom swiss burger which was good. Overall, not what I was expecting. Spruce Tip was their best and they treated me like I was a tourist. Maybe, if they knew no cruise ships were in town they would’ve realized I wasn’t a tourist. I’ll only come back when they have more beers on tap. Average brewpub.“

“I had to check this out being in Skagway, and you know, its not bad at all. Well lit, and friendly service helps to the beer job done. I even heard the cashier telling someone about how to cellar beers (nice beer knowledge) ... hey hey hey - nice! Between the Kassik’s, Midnight Sun, ABC, Baranof, Elysian, Ninkasi, Kona, Widmer, Rogue, Sierra Nevada; I realize when in Skagway, and you want bottles, you go here. Not bad at all.“

“Interesting place, dive bar-esque with Gold Rush’s flagship ale leading the way (Fireweed Honey Ale/their blonde ale). This pretty clean place gave me Gold Rush’s first brew I ever had which isn’t bad at all. The service was pretty good. I didn’t have any food but the place was loud enough I think I could take my 4 year old son back. Cheers.“

“Hmmm...well, this semi-decent ex brothel from the late 1800’s has been turned into a bar/restaurant. I was surprised to see Baranof, Dick Danger, Elysian, Ninkasi and Rogue. Okay, not bad selection. The service left something to be desired a bit, but I do realize the town was crawling with people ready to run the Klondike race (I don’t think Skagway was built to hold this amount of people for this race). I didn’t have any food, but damn, those nachos looked tempting. Not a bad place, could go back to, but also I realize I’m in Skagway.“

“Good place to find normally hard to find Alaskan locals. Good place to stop when in Skagway. Clean attractive store. Beer is reasonably priced, especially for here. Great finds like Barahnof Island, Kassik, and unusual Anchorage and Midnight Sun. Good place to get stuff to smuggle back onto the cruise ship.“

“Nice looking pub, not special. Friendly staff.the regular brewer had broken his leg and was out, so the full line up was not available. The food menu was extensive, and nice. Reasonable priced place for a tourist trap especially. They have limited guest taps on as well, although nothing great. Their own beers are relatively decent. Worth a stop if you’re in this remote corner in the world.“

“You are in Alaska, how can the ambience go wrong? This is a great stop. The Spruce Tip Blonde Ale made our "list" which is saying a lot. There are only 13 beers on the list. I highly recommend!“

“Stopped in there last summer on a Pacific NW trip with my wife... we were cruising and the boat had Alaskan beer that wasn’t bad but we were eager to get off the boat and hang out in a local pub. This is a very small town and the brewery is a throw back to the old west saloon style. Nice rustic feel with alot of friendly locals who had as many questions about us eastcoasters as we did about their town. The brews were good solid beers but nothing too exciting... its been so long I wouldn’t rate any of the beer I drank there but would recommend as a place to visit if your in Skagway ... but wouldnt go out of my way if Skagway was not on your list of destinations!“

“Can’t believe I didn’t rate any of their brews! Kind of kills me. From what I recall, really small and quaint home-town charm. Wait staff was incredibly attentive and the place was packed due to our cruise ship landing their. Food was really well prepared and piping hot on a cold day. Definitely worth stopping in if you are in port!“

“Quaint little saloon, only missing old-west style saloon doors. Was semi-full. Service was ok. Halibut fish and chips were better than excellent, they were incredible. Had Alaskan brews and some other as well as the house brands. Had a sampler of their house stuff for the ticks. Only decent place in town. Definitely worth the trip.“

“This place makes Skagway worth traveling to -- it is that good. Walk to the end of all of the touristy crap and take a seat at the bar. Order the fish & chips and start drinking. You will thank me. Two barrel aged barley wines when I was there. Best fish & chips I have ever had. London can’t compete.“

“If you make it to Skagway and don’t go here to have a few beers . . . well, you probably were just dreaming of Skagway. Don’t even think of asking the bartender for any samples - with a few thousand people getting off cruise ships here each week during the summer months, he gets tired of people who don’t even drink beer coming in, asking for a beer sample, and then leaving. So don’t blame him for being a little grumpy by late August. Make sure you buy a hat before you leave - it’s probably the second best thing they sell here, and will remind you of the best thing they sell here . . . that being the spruce tip pale ale.“

“If you’re marooned here on a cruise, make your way to the end of Broadway (the map below is not correct) and have the taster. For the middle of nowhere, the beer is good, if a bit pricey. I skipped the food, but many were eating.“

“Visited on a late Wednesday afternoon in September, this place was big and rough and fun. Loud music was blaring but a good selection. Service was quick and friendly, noting our return later. Four of their own brews were on tap as well as a couple guest taps (including Unibroue!), all fair and good. Tasty grilled cheese and fries for lunch. How is it that Alaska can get fresh Unibroue kegs over 3000km away from the source... and the province next door cannot? Anyway, worth visiting if in town.“

“(Visited 05/2008): Surprise find during an Alaskan cruise. This brewpub is located toward the far end of the main drag of downtown Skagway. The interior is a green/yellow color scheme with lots of wood. The bar is on the left side, with table seating on the right. The brewing equipment is not visible but is on another floor. Skagway Brewing has 6-7 beers on draught, including one or two seasonals. I did not see what bottles, if any, were available. 4 of the beers are available in a sampler as well. The beers are somewhat unique, including a Spruce Tip Pale and Wee Heavy included with the more typical Stout, Amber etc. All of the beers were above average, with a couple being very good. Service was good on a weekday late morning. The place was really getting busy (with the majority of the clientele being cruisers getting samplers so they could get a free hat - think South Park). We did not try any food on the visit. Overall this brewpub is a gem that is a must-stop in Skagway.“

“Atmosphere is pretty low key, the one room is kind of run down feeling to be honest, although stark might be a better word. The house beers are just okay, but quaffable. Couple of solid guest taps including Unibroue which almost offends me since we don’t have too many of those in Ontario! Stone IPA turned out to be my highlight of the day. Came back later and the friendly server remembered us from our first visit, even though she hadn’t been waiting on us the first time! Had a grilled cheese sandwich and fries which was pretty decent and reasonably priced. Not the most amazing stop in the world, but well worth a stop if you are in town.“

“Its a small restaurant that serves as the main (possibly only) pub/bar in town for a population 800 town in the off season, and a tourist trap for cruise-ships during the summer. Nothing special, but if I lived in Skagway this would be awesome! Most of the beers have lager undertones due to the cold climate. A fun stop with some decent beers but nothing special.“
