“In my opinion, the better Springfield option. Friendly service. Fairly clean, easy to take kids in. Bottles don’t look like they went through World War II. Decent selection. Value seems reasonable for the Springfield area. Would go back if in the area.“

“Not so sure about this place. Though mostly clean when I was in there, and normally I’m not one to pick on service too much, but I barely saw anyone that worked there. Saw some Clown Shoes bottles that day with a ton of dust on. Pretty sure there’s better places in Springfield to get beer.“

“No customer service. No beer knowledge. Sketchy, random selection. And now they seem to be taking on wicked old beer dumped by the distributors. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Occasionally has something good on the three growler taps.“

“I lived in Springfield when this place was opened in the 1980’s and back then it was basically a convenience store. Now it is an official Vermont State Liquor Outlet with loads of wine, rum, whiskeys, and a great beer section. There are several coolers along the back wall filled with regional crafts. I saw a good selection of Clown Shoes, Rock Art, McNeill’s, and Berkshire to name a few. They also sell growlers drawn from kegs of various beers. When I was there the growler choices were from McNeill’s, Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, and Hoptical Illusion. Tastings occur here too. The main negative was that you cannot mix and match. Reasonably priced but you also have to add in Vermont taxes and the deposit.“

“Been a number of times with mixed results on various occasions. Staff ranges from pleasant and helpful to forgetful, distracted and apathetic. The pizza also tends to vary from exceptional to unsuccessfully experimental. The beer itself can be quite good to mediocre and uninspiring, with only some seasonal variation.“

“Stopped by a few years back and really enjoyed this place. It was very tiny, don’t really remember the food but I do remember trying all their brews which I thoroughly enjoyed. Funny thing is that the last few times I have tried their beer from the bottle I haven’t been that impressed. Not sure they have their distribution working as well at it should because the fresh stuff at the brewery was so much better than the bottled stuff that there is really no comparison.“

“Visited on the way to Canada. Small place with 8 active taps - which included all of their bottled offerings plus specialties (IPA, Barleywine, Imp Stout, Wit). Got a sampler, but was not able to select which beers I wanted to include -luckily the set sampler list included a number of specialties. Beer is good value and high quality and the pizza is some of the best I’ve ever had. Waited quite a while for a table as they have limited space and allow people to hang and drink while others are waiting for a table to eat, but the staff was very friendly during the wait and during service.“

“My wife is a big skiier so we spend many weekends up in Northern Vermont skiing Burke Mountain. While I’m not much for skiing, I definitely enjoy heading over to Trout River when they’re open which is generally only on Fridays during the winter. When you first walk in, you are underwhelmed by the size of the place. That quickly changes when you see their beer menu. Their beers on draught are generally Rainbow Red, Hopping Mad, Scotch Ale, and several seasonals. Last time I was there, I downed several pints of their Barleywine and their Stout while eating one of their pizzas. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Growlers are available for takeout and they also bottle their Rainbow Red, White Water, Oatmeal Stout and Hopping Mad. I was told that they plan on bottling their Bullpout Stout and Barleywine. It’d be nice to have these two available in a container that would last more than a few weeks. Children are welcome during dinner hours.“
