80 /100 The Beer & Wine Shop (Beer Store) 90 FEATHERBED LN, WINCHESTER, VA 22601 Brand new beer & wine store in Winchester. Everything is shiny and bright. Small bar with about 8 taps. Beer is avialble both on shelf and from coolers. Really nice selection, higher end craft. No Bud Lite here. |
72 /100 23 N LOUDOUN ST Upstairs location in downtown Winchester. Small, cozy taproom taken up mostly by the bar. Good service, small but thorough tap list.Dinly lit with some natural light coming in. Kind of a European vibe. |
70 /100 50/50 Taphouse (Bar) 29 WEST CORK STREET Headed here for food after Vibrissa. Sports bar vibe combined with a taproome expereince. Modernish interior, tables with a medium sized bar. Nice burger menu, Belgian burger was a bellyful. Decent taplist of regional craft. Good service. |
82 /100 10 N KENT ST. What a beautiful place! Modern sleek design, uses natural lighting to full. Classy lounge feel. Big bar, lots of seating options, including the hanging basket chair my brother curled up in. Awsome service. enough taps to keep the populace happy. To-go product also available. This defintely worth a stop in NW Virginia. |
70 /100 160 N LOUDOUN ST Storefront location in downtown Winchester's pedestrian mall. Long and narrow, bar is at the Back near the brewhouse. Tables up front, including some nice window seats right up front. Small patio in the front. Decent variety of taps, great service. Overall quality of beer was average. |
74 /100 142 COMMERCIAL STREET Smallish space on your wAy into Winchester. Modern taproom, high ceilings, windows into brewhouse. Decent sized bar, high tables and a small patio in the parking lot. Friendly, open. Nice variety of taps. |
64 /100 160 N LOUDOUN ST Old town Winchester. Smallish place with a bar in back and tables up front. Only about 6 beers on tap. A bit quiet on a Friday. Good service. So so beer from what I sampled. |
66 /100 10 N KENT ST. Last stop of the evening. A couple blocks off the main drag. Newer looking place; there is some money here. Reasonable crowd on a Friday night. Flights available. Beers, other than the small IPA, were unfortunately fairly miserable. They must get by on their food (which I did not try). |
70 /100 14 W BOSCAWEN ST Old Town Winchester.. Relatively small space, bar abs a few tables. No frills, but clean and functional. Decent service. 7 taps. I didn't ask about flights. Smoked stout was solid. |
56 /100 320 N. CAMERON ST. Well Gene, it's been 6 years; ain't nobody working in the beers! Meter parking in front, not enforced after 6pm. Kinda dead on a Friday night. No kids at the bar. Flight of four ranged from bad to abysmal. Wow. Worst in a while honestly. |
76 /100 14 W BOSCAWEN ST Located in downtown Winchester. Small storefront location, not a lot of room inside. Cozy and intimate. Short bar, a handful of tables. The broken window that gave the brewery it's name is proudly displayed behind the bar. Taplist represents a nice variety of styles. Good service. Flights available. |
80 /100 14 W BOSCAWEN ST Small place in old town section of Winchester Virginia. About 10 can sit at the bar and enough table seating for 20 more people. Dim hanging lots and big windows light this lace up. Classic rock on the radio. Two bartenders who were quite. Interesting little brewery. 6 beers on tap. Overall a good time and glad to check this place out. |
56 /100 23 N LOUDOUN ST Small brewery located above a pizza place in a cool little downtwon pedestrian only area. The place was a little hard to find as it was over the pizza place and not good signage. The beers here were average at best. You can order food from downstairs - pizza looked good. I had some really good calamari. |
70 /100 142 COMMERCIAL STREET Nice modern taproom with about a dozen or so beers on tap. Glass doors overlook the brewery and huge pallets of canned beer. Most of the beers I tried were pretty good. The staff (only one bartender) was very friendly. The brewery and all of the beers are named after nautical terms. |
76 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET This is an old school bar located on the pedestrian mall in downtown Winchester. Loads of taps that rotate pretty quickly. They get a lot of cool special release stuff in here, especially from Firestone Walker. |
76 /100 142 COMMERCIAL STREET Visit to tap room, very friendly, not so crowded on a sunday, beers a mix of quality but great value
|
70 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET Came here on 2.10.2017. British Pub in the middle of Winchester's downtown. Around 35 beers on tap plus 2 Ciders. Very good selection of a variety of different styles. I had a Pumpkin Spice Latte, tapped with nitro, from Breckenridge and a Racer 5 IPA. Both were well tapped with the right level of CO2 and temperature. Typical British food menue: I had Bangers and Mash, which were just ok. Overall worthwhile a stop when you are passing by mainly due to the good beer selection. |
80 /100 23 N LOUDOUN ST A small brewpub in the upstairs of a pizza restaurant. Located on a pedestrian-only street and perhaps a little hard to find unless you know what you're looking for. There is a door on the immediate right as you enter which leads up to the brewpub. There is a bar and some tables. TVs over the bar. There were 8-10 taps available and the beers were quite good (gose, funky saison, coconut stout, IPA, citra wheat). There is a menu which seems to be an abbreviated menu of the pizzeria downstairs. We got a veggie pizza which was delicious. This is an underrated brewpub in a surprisingly nice smallish town. |
40 /100 Martin’s - Winchester (Gateway) (Grocery Store) 400 GATEWAY DR Free dedicated parking right in front. No service to speak of. Selection was similar to many grocery stores, nothing special. Although they did have a mixed six-pack with around 40 options or so. Prices seemed average. I didn’t buy anything and there is really no reason for me to return. |
56 /100 Murphy Beverage Company (Beer Store) 167 N LOUDOUN STREET Need to park about a block away, bring quarters. Older building that is a worn bottle shop including a variety of things including beer. A nice Korgi meet me at the door. Selection was somewhat limited. Service was average. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit, but if you go by any of the other places within a couples blocks I would stop by. |
68 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET Have to park over a block away and walk, I would have some quarters for this. Looks like there used to be a road in front of this place, but now it is just for pedestrians. Atmosphere is slightly narrow up-scale pub, we ate in the first room as you come in the front door, there is a small outdoor area in front of the front door, a second room straight back where the bar is and seems to have an upstairs. Service was slightly below average. Our waitress brought our drinks, but did not come back until she brought our food. We both had the fish and chips. The fish size was small and greazy, the breading on the fish was not good. The fries were okay, but nothing special. The tap beer selection was above average for sure. Prices were going rate. I would only come back here for the beer. |
78 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET Visited 10.5.16 in the evening, after doing a part of the Skyline Drive. GPS brought us to the back of the bar so we entered through the kitchen. Sat on the bar for one round. Good selection, local and regional stuff and quite crowded. Nice place in a nice town. |
58 /100 Murphy Beverage Company (Beer Store) 167 N LOUDOUN STREET Smallish place on the main pedestrianized street. Selection is smaller than Village Market, and less varied. Prices are OK. Friendly helpful service. Worth a look if you’re in the area. |
80 /100 142 COMMERCIAL STREET Shiny sleek modern place. Brewhouse and tons and tons of cans visible through glass. Nine of their beers on tap, and although they had cans too, I think they were the same beers offered on tap. Flight of five for six bucks, so easily the best value place of the day. Beers were mostly solid. No food. Friendly knowledgeable service with a good selection of folk punk music that the young server was playing since the boss wasn’t in. He also made it a point to tell us that they didn’t know the medical/anatomical meaning of the term before they named their brewery, which made me feel better. Worth a stop. |
64 /100 320 N. CAMERON ST. Large place, long bar, tables, and a canoe. Multiple canoe-themed beers. They allow little kids to sit at the bar, which is one of my pet peeves. Eight beers on offer when we visited, flights of four for seven bucks. The beers were a bit messy, and none stood out as worth drinking a full pour or having again. Friendly service. Has its own parking lot, which is a plus. No food, but you can order from nearby places. Beers need work before I would return. |
78 /100 23 N LOUDOUN ST The first brewpub of the day, visited with obguthr and the Sultan. On the pedestrianized street, catty corner across from Village Market, more or less. Enter the pizzeria (you’ll also see an Alesatian sign), go through the door to the right and up the stairs to pass the brewing equipment and find a long bar. Flights were pricey, three large (6 ounce) pours for $14. But beers were tasty and creative. They had one of the cheesiest Berliner weisses I’ve had in a long time, but at least it wasn’t boring. Five of their beers on offer, plus a smattering of local guest taps, a very nice touch. You can order pizza from downstairs if you like, but we didn’t. Friendly girls behind the bar, although they recommended we try Winchester Brew Works, which we did - and that underminded the girls’ credibility a bit. But more on that later. This was the top place we visited on this trip, of five brewpubs. Worth keeping an eye on these folks. |
100 /100 50/50 Taphouse (Bar) 29 WEST CORK STREET ---Rated via Beer Buddy for Android |
90 /100 142 COMMERCIAL STREET ---Rated via Beer Buddy for Android |
78 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET Really great brew selection - waiter let me know that Parabola had just been tapped which was a slick move. I got the Pork Belly topped burger which was killer. |
78 /100 Village Market & Bistro (Restaurant) 2 SOUTH LOUDOUN STREET This could of have been passed off as a mainly wine bistro had the 50/50 guys not mentioned the place to us. Step inside, and there’s walls of beer from all over the region and beyond. Four taps pouring to drink on site. We didn’t eat on our visit. Enthusiastically, Dan the owner is very knowledgeable, welcoming and helping to fly the flag for good beer in Winchester. Keep an ear out for when the Winchester Craft Beer Week hits, as Village Market and other establishments around town host beery events. |
72 /100 50/50 Taphouse (Bar) 29 WEST CORK STREET 50/50 is a great addition to the Winchester beer scene. They boast 50 or so taps with a mix of regional breweries and beers from further afield (CA, OR, MI etc). One cider from a local producer was nice to see too. No frills establishment with heaps of tables out front. Popular with families during the weekend. Food options available with burgers, burgers and, well, more burgers to choose from. Staff are excellent - knowledgeable, friendly, and do an awesome job talking the punters through all the beers. |
86 /100 Village Market & Bistro (Restaurant) 2 SOUTH LOUDOUN STREET The guys at 50/50 recommended this place to us, and I’m glad they did. It’s smack in the middle of the pedestrian zone, with easy street or garage parking. It looks like a beer store inside, although there are a number of tables, more numerous outside than in. For your convenience, owner Dan and barman Dan have the same name. Both are very friendly and knowledgeable. Owner Dan is a chef, and his enthusiasm for good beer and food is very evident. Just a handful of taps, but very well chosen, and the bottle selection is extensive - as large as VA ABC will allow, it looks like. Prices are decent. We had just eaten, but I would return for the food. Worth going well out of your way to try the combo of this place and 50/50. |
78 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET In the town center, pedestrianized area, but there’s plenty of street parking and some parking garages. Kind of dark interior, but there’s a small patio if you like the sun. Good tap list included a number of local and regional things. Didn’t try the food. Worth a stop. |
82 /100 50/50 Taphouse (Bar) 29 WEST CORK STREET This is a large modern place with a bare bones interior. Large bar, lots of tables, two pool tables, shuffleboard and games for the rugrats. Servers were tripping over themselves to offer advice and chat about the beers, the food, and the steadily improving beer scene in Winchester. Taplist was very solid and included one local cider. 50 different burgers on offer, looked delicious, but we had already eaten. I will be back. |
34 /100 125 E PICCADILLY STREET Sadly (or maybe happily), they stopped brewing six months ago. The last to go was their hefeweizen. We saw only macros in the fridge, although we didn’t look closely, and their website lists a handful of macros. Too many other places in town now. |
40 /100 Martin’s - Winchester (Gateway) (Grocery Store) 400 GATEWAY DR There is a chance to buy singles or at least 6-pack of singles but the selection is very limited. I was however able to find 6 new beers for me. Otherwise very typical supermarket selection. It’s open 24/7 and it wasn’t too crowded at the beer shelf 6 am... |
36 /100 Martin’s - Winchester (Gateway) (Grocery Store) 400 GATEWAY DR Standard Giant-owned grocery store. A meager selection that is growing by the month. |
64 /100 181 KERNSTOWN COMMONS BLVD Went with kids to watch a movie... good beer selection, but they were out of what I wanted (Loose Cannon IPA). Went with Dogfish Head instead. Food was ok, but rather typical ’sysco’ style. Decent enough if you are catching a movie anyway. |
92 /100 The Butcher Station (Restaurant) 3107 VALLEY AVE The beer list is growing seemingly every week. Right now (Early June 2012) they have 2 beers on draft (St. Bernardus and Union Jack IPA). Owners say they are going to be adding 4 more taps soon. Great highly rated beers already available and their food is local/seasonal and delicious. Went tonight for dinner and had a Union Jack IPA with Southwest seasoned grilled Halibut and crispy polenta... it was yum.... went well with the IPA. |
78 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET Nice place on the pedestrian mall in downtown Winchester. May have guessed by now that the decor is British pub inspired; fun but not unique. Tap selection is very good, with about 30 or so handles and a large bottle section. Good food, prompt service and little competition in the area make it a practical choice. |
60 /100 Murphy Beverage Company (Beer Store) 167 N LOUDOUN STREET Small store with a small but interesting selection. Selection is a good contrast to other local stores, containing choices not seen at other stores. Staff was friendly and knowldegable. Some glassware. Probably not your everyday stop but worth checking now and again. |
80 /100 Union Jacks (Bar) 101 N. LOUDOUN STREET I have to say, they have a decent selection of beers. Nothing mind blowing, but a decent selection. The food was pretty good and the staff was friendly. The atmosphere was pretty good given it’s location in old town Winchester. If you happen to be out this way and need a bite and pint, this is your stop. |
70 /100 181 KERNSTOWN COMMONS BLVD The movie experience was great, I really enjoyed having folks bringing me food during a movie. The bad, the selection was OK, more BMC then I would like, though they did have a lambic on tap which you typically don’t see. So I’m kind of torn if I would drive 50+ miles to see a movie here when I can’t rate the beer on my phone as I consume it. It’s quite hard to write on paper in the mostly dark theater to take my notes. |
72 /100 181 KERNSTOWN COMMONS BLVD As a beer experience it was merely ok. I know it’s Winchester but that have way to much overlapping BMC and foreign versions of BMC on their list. And it’s not exactly the best environment to judge a beer when you can get kicked out for turning on your cell phone in the theater. As a movie-going experience, it was fantastic. People bring you food and beer as you watch a feature film. In a sense it’s a restaurant that shows movies. It was very clean. Everything was shown at the proper aspect ratio and with the proper amount of light. I’ve had so many poor theatrical experiences I think it’s almost worth driving 50 miles out of my way to watch a movie. |
50 /100 Murphy Beverage Company (Beer Store) 167 N LOUDOUN STREET Located downtown on a pedestrian mall not too far from Piccadilly’s. Small beer selection but with a decent and eclectic variety. Some things I hadn’t seen elsewhere. Prices were high but not unreasonable. The person working was nice but gave me some grief for putting $5 on a credit card (they want to do $10). The glassware selection is anemic, except the private collection behind the counter which of course is not for sale. Decent stop. |
28 /100 125 E PICCADILLY STREET Located downtown with a parking garage (50 cents an hour) behind. Definitely neighborhood bar feel. Large center bar with tables around. 3 house beer on tap, two of which they blend for two more house "beers." the beers were thin, watery, nearly tasteless and overpiced at $8 for a sampler. Three macro taps and lots of bottles, though it seems like Sam Adams was about as good as they got. I would have liked the ambience if it were for the beer being so bad and the annoying drunk woman who kept wanting me to drink the beers like shots. Definitely not a good experience and I got out of there quick. |
64 /100 Murphy Beverage Company (Beer Store) 167 N LOUDOUN STREET Second visit to this place. I try to stop by when visiting family in Front Royal. Beer selection has definitely improved. During my 15min visit I saw a number of people coming in to purchase beer over the wine. Great little place to find some hidden gems (for this area of Virginia at least). As I said, a regular stop for me when visiting NOVA. |
28 /100 125 E PICCADILLY STREET What a waste of a brewery. This place starts out looking nice and then you notice the BMC light taps next to the house taps. If that were not enough clue, the cooler behind the bar is 3/4 full of BMC, with some Sam Adams to make it look like craft beer belongs. The service absolutely sucked for my first and hopefully last visit, though I may go back just to taunt the brewer. There are 3 house beers, I think, though someone here thinks they have more. The idea for the Brown and Amber is to tap-blend two beers in different proportions, which leads you to understand why there are BMC taps. The beer is absolutely flat, making the rest of it even worse. |
