“Came here on 5.10.2020 and a few times before. Is my favorite restaurant in Wuppertal. Really good beer selection (Ürige, Maisel’s Weisse, Frankenheim, Zunft, Bergisches Landbier) and traditional food for this region. Dark wooden interior and old paintings give the place a very special ambiance. Service is fast and attentive.“

“Came here on 21.11.2019. Great selection of German beers. I mainly came to buy Düsseldorf ales from Ürige, Füchschen and Schlüssel. I believe this is the only place in Wuppertal offering these traditional Alt beers. All of them are filled in bottles with swing top. Hopefully all beers will survive the trip back to the US. Very friendly service and I was glad they accepted credit cards (still not a given in Germany). Was definitely worth the 45 min detour during rush hour.“

“I came here on 7.11.2019. Very large restaurant with a brewhouse at the rear end. Many tables on the mezzanine and an open area on the ground floor. (seems this was an indoor swimming pool once). On tap they have a Weissbier, a red (Märzen), a dark, a pale lager and a Pilsner in bottles. The Märzen and Helles were absolutely ok. Food was quite good, very large portions. Service was friendly, but extremely slow and credit cards are not accepted. We waited for a beer more than 20 minutes!“

“Fairly easy to find about 5-10 minutes walk from Wuppertal- Barmen railway station. Large size of this former swimming pool gave rise to an interesting architectural experience but diluted the atmosphere. I found the Rot Bernstein beer to be decent enough, the Helles below average, if adequate. The Gents toilet contained above the urinals, a "mural" of 5 women in various attitudes of mirth, shock, and in one case holding a ruler, and i.m.o somewhat bizarrely there was a sound recording of a typical swimming pool - with lots of laughing & shrieking.“

“Small bar not far away from the Craft Beer Kiosk. Pretty interesting concept with lots of pie and tea on offer, several different whiskies as well, beerwise not really a revelation. Mostly macro stuff available on tap with a few local options and a bit of well-known craft beer. Didn't try the food. Staff was very friendly and attentive, prices were decent. Wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if you are in the area, there are not that many choices, I guess.“

“Interesting concept of a small beer store and an even smaller bar in the same room in one of the more inviting parts of Wuppertal. Looks very clean and neatly organized, maybe about fifty different bottles - which can be taken away or consumed immediately - and two taps on offer. Mostly German craft beer, most of it well-known, solid prices. Some rather unusual snacks are offered as well, staff is friendly and helpful. Nice place in an otherwise pretty boring city beerwise, would be great if they could expand their selection a little.“

“Visited 12.10.17. Small bottle shop across the hallway from a wine shop. Nice selection of mostly German craft beer, friendly service and fresh beer on tap with a small seating area Good place to visit.“

“Visited 12.10.17 at noon. Huge brewpub in an old swimming pool. The place is impressive and split to different seating areas. It was rather empty when we were there. Friendly and patient service, Baby-friendly, not very vegan-friendly. Beer - not too great. Still, worth a visit because the architecture is stunning.“

“Nice little bottle-shop with 4 taps in the back. They have a nice changing selection of German and (mostly) European Craft-beer. The taps are quite new (July 2017) and are always changing, but sometimes only two are on. Nice owner as well.“

“Nice little shop, that is relatively new (the interior isn’t finished yet, so the ambiance should improve over time ;-)). Interesting variety of beers (mainly German beers so far) with two fridges for cold beer.“

“Nice little pub with a bit more variety than you find in other pubs in the city center. Very friendly service and a small area outside in front of the bar to sit and enjoy. (And for those, who are interested in whisky: They seem to be involved in some whisky related events as well.)“

“Rather large bottle shop not that far from the central station. More or less only well-known brands available, mostly macro stuff, just a few "regional" offers from the Düsseldorf or Cologne area and the Wuppertaler beers may make it worth a visit. It’s a bit smaller and definitely less interesting than the one in Barmen so I would rather go there. Not worth a detour!“

“Medium-sized, worn-down and not very inviting Russian supermarket with a small selection of Eastern European and mainly Russian macro stuff. More or less everything from Baltika, some other Pale or Strong Lagers and maybe a Vienna Lager and a Wheat Beer, nothing really exciting but some of those beers are not that easy to get in Germany. Many bottles are quite old already, so check the dates on them beforehand. Prices are decent, staff spoke only Russian with me (which I don’t understand). Not very interesting, wouldn’t get out of my way for it (again).“

“It’s like a pub. But in Germany. Almost certainly the best selection of beer in the city. Imports from the UK as well as local stuff. Frequently rotating taps and bottle selection. Really friendly service. A bit pricier than what you’ll pay at other bars, but the selection and availability of imported beers justifies it. Lots of events, beer tastings, whisky tastings, live music, etc. “

“Very large brewpub with a beer garden in front of it. It’s divided into several different areas, but the old swimming pool area is its centre and it’s very large and spacious, quite unique I’d say! The interior is quite clean and modern, not really the traditional "Brauhaus"-style, but inviting nevertheless. There is a shop as well where you can buy beer to take home or bread made from spent grain ("Treberbrot"). As far as I remember, they have four different beers on tap including the occasional seasonal, plus a few more from bottle, all for solid prices. Didn’t try the food, but it looked decent and was not expensive at all. Since it was rather empty on that Saturday noon, I cannot complain about the service as it was quick and friendly. Not only worth a visit because of the unique setting, and I would come back for the seasonals at least!“

“Very large (one of the largest I’ve ever seen), clean and sterile Getränkemarkt. Enough space to park your car in front of it, although it was quite crowded on a late Saturday morning. Massive amounts of crates with mostly the standard stuff you’ll find in every shop of that kind, although there was so much available due to its size. It’s good to pick up some local stuff from Wuppertal or Düsseldorf (or some Kölsch which is quite hard to find east of the border which divides Rhineland and Westphalia), but other than a handful of standard Belgians, there is nothing else of special interest, not even Franconian or Bavarian beers.“

“Supermarket with a selection of eastern european and russian beers. There are some known and a lot of less common beers. It is helpful to speak russian or some other slavic language, otherwise you either know what you buy or you can choose the prettiest label/highest abv/largest bottle/etc at random.“

“Lots of local, bavarian and german beers (as in the other Akzenta Getränkemarkt in Barmen). This one seems to be a little smaller in space and selection. In the Akzenta Supermarket on the same areal is a special fridge with beers form BraufactuM and beers they imported. I found Firestone Walker in there, so this is worth checking out.“

“Surprisingly large interior in an old swimming pool. Inside the pool is a separate bar with tables and around the pool are tables on two level. The vessels are visible in the back behind the pool bar. A bit loud, but it has a charming ambiance.“

“Nice Russian Supermarket in Wuppertal. Lots of Russian food and also a few bottles of beer from former UDSSR-countries. They stock beers from Russia, sometimes also from Belarus and Ukraine. Poland as well. All beers for 99¢. Service is friendly and speaks good German (beside Russian). Lots of Vodka and other Russian Spirits!“

“Visited on Sunday early lunchtime, 28/04/13. This took a little bit of effort to find as the nearest ’Danglebahn’ station was closed so we had to navigate off map for a bit! Set in an old swimming baths this brewpub is rather splendid visually speaking and unique compared to any other I’ve visited. 4 levels make up this cavernous venue, one big room being presumably the former pool area about 4 steps down from another large area, then there are balcony levels looking down on the main floor. There is also a large outside garden. The decorations were modern and stylish, almost like being in a 4* hotel in terms of the entrance and carpeted areas. The service was great and we had a friendly young waitress who spoke good English. We explained we had to be in and out in 30 minutes as we had more beers to tick elsewhere and she came back after 10 with our 2nd round and the bill. Beer wise there were 2 on tap, Weizen and Dunkel - pretty medicore offerings but at least they were cheap in comparison to many places. We also took a couple of bottles away with us. The place was pretty dead when we rocked up at 11.30 but was starting to fill with Sunday diners as we left after midday. Nice place, worth a little detour if for nothing else to take in the civic splendour of a Victorian era swimming baths converted to a brewpub! Check out the cheeky murals in the gents too !“

“Unexpectedly large place, ready to host the oktoberfest celebrations. Unfortunately the waitress I had the misfortune to meet is an ass, pretending not to speak a word of English to start with, and just plain unbearable. Get rid of this non-service minded people!“

“Nice brewpub in the Center of Barmen. Biergarten in summer in front of the building. The pub itself is very large, but nice atmosphere. The service is friendly and the food improved within the last years! Beer as well, but I think it depends on who is tapping... :) Parking possible on the large square next to the pub, but not free.“

“Were on the way to Leverkusen and put in a lunch stop in this brewpub. The brewhouse is really impressive, big, open, light and old-school, I enjoyed the atmosphere and interior a lot. Food selection was nice with some good hearty German stuff. Prices were okay, but little bit too expensive, though I’d say the lunch price for having "todays lunch" with a beer / soft drink etc of your choice for 6 € something was pretty fair. I had the onion soup with cheese-bread-topping, which I just loved. Selection of beer was rather low: There were the Hell and Dunkel and also the seasonal: Maibock. Good thing is, that you can buy the bottles for home directly there. Any 0,5 l swing top-bottle was 1,40 € with 0,15 € bottle deposit. Really, really fair when I think of other brewhouses which sell bottles....The staff was really nice (es wird geduzt!), fast and efficient. Really funny that the waiter warned me of the Maibock being a "strong beer" ;-) Would go there anytime again for drinking another seasonal.“

“Akzenta offers two big markets. One is a big supermarket with a big wine, spirits etc selection (and "help yourself" wine tasting taps) and some nice ciders. There are some selected beers available, too. On the other side of the road is the big Akzenta Getränkemarkt / bottle shop. The selection is okay but it offers nothing that special, except Belzebuth, Satan and some awful Mongozo. The rest is normal German stuff with some few local beers like some Kölsch or Schwelmer. Prices are a bit above average but in general quite cheap. Staff is okay.“

“In a former swimming hall, nicely done. Apart from swimming, there are also references to the Schwebebahn (the "hanging tramway"). Food is more or less standard Brauhaus fare, beers are variable. The Helles was more of a hopped orange juice, while the Dunkel was quite allright.“

“A nicely refurbished old swimming hall with quite some character. Service is a bit slow, but therefore friendly, prices are ok, didn’t try the food. The selection was good compared to a lot of places around here (had 3 beers on tap and 1 bottled), though the beers are hit-and-miss. We had a nice session here, so the experience was quite enjoyable.“

“Impressive selection of local and bavarian beers in a huge supermarket, some rare seasonals sometimes available sells exclusively the Schwelmer Trassengold........... Now (8/2016) a very poor selection, only the usual suspects from the big brewers, thousands of cheap, crappy beers and only a strictly limited selection of quality brews ( e.g.Uerige).Poor...“

“Huge beer garden in the middle of Wuppertal, an otherwise boring German city with little charm. The building used to be the town indoor swim hall. The main seating area is huge with two balcony levels with tables. The bar is where the pool used to be. Outside there is room for hundreds and hundreds of people in the summer beer garden. The food was OK - very traditional German stuff. The beer is unfortunately the weakest part of the whole experience.“

“The place itself is really cool. Located in an old Swimming pool house. The bar inside is in the old pool and the brickwalls with the seating are set the same way as in the early 19 Hundreds as my 87 year old grandaunt assured me. The beer is plain and nothing fancy. The staff is friendly but slow. The beergarden huge and nice. The food is the typical German food menue - but overly greasy, salty and not that good in quality (speaking from a German perspective - which means Americans might really dislike this). If you are stuck in the area - go there - otherwise don’t go to far out of your way for this brewpub.“
