“Upmarket gastro pub. Went there for Xmas dinner with some friends, food was fairly good, service was a little slow, long wait between courses, perhaps because it was heaving in there, I saw a couple of real ales on, kept in good condition. Overall nice, but more of a restaurant and not really a beer venue“

“In an area full of historic buildings, the Old Bridge Inn is one of the oldest that still survive and is a wonderfully atmospheric structure and inn. Set by the river on a pedestrian cobbled road just below the main commercial area of Ripponden it’s full of warped wooden beams and irregular stone doorways in a slightly cramped three-room open plan. The bar greets you in the central room as you enter with those flanking it set-up for dining but no area is any less atmospheric than any other and include stone walls, fireplaces all with fine old-world traditional pub furniture. There’s a few modern touches such as the carpets that detract from the ambiance of the old building to an extent, but as it’s such a comfortable place to frequent it matters little. There’s a full range of Tim Taylor’s regular ales here alongside two rotating guest ales. Keg lagers and ales are also available and currently Camden Ink is the funkiest choice from the six available. There’s a few places to sit outside and a small car park too.“

“In a lovely countryside pub building, this place has gone under an extensive refit in recent years and is much more of a restaurant than a public house nowadays. The funky modern bar area only includes a couple of high-level tables to sit around so it’s not the best option for a quiet drink, although these tables are still suitable for eating at. The rest of the rooms in the beautiful building are all traditional in design and look publike, however they are all set-out with dining apparatus and wine lists as the main reason to come here for the majority of the year is to eat. However if you find yourself nearby in the summer months it is well worth the drive up the hill to use the high-level patio area that includes stunning views over the Calder Valley and purposely built for this. There’s a brand new car park with plenty of room. There’s three ale pumps at the bar and all rotate a local craft selection.“

“A slightly more upmarket place to drink and dine, it’s fixtures and fittings are more bar and restaurant in look than a traditional pub, and there’s certainly a mark-up on all the drinks too. It’s not an exclusive place though and locals descend here like any other outlet. There’s a good selection of drinks including three real ale pumps and one carrying a cider too as well as the normal array of keg lager and ciders. There is a pleasant courtyard to the side of the building that is partially shaded from the road it looks onto.“
