62 /100 The Vine (Bar) 152 ROEBUCK STREET Called into this Good Beer Guide pub today and found a pub with lots of small well kept rooms, and two large rooms with loads of tables and chairs, one with a grill for food as well as the pub's curries. We enjoyed our Ossett Yorkshire Blonde which was the only cask ale available. We were first ones in today so didn't get much atmosphere, but the staff were friendly. |
50 /100 Old Hop Pole (Bar) 474 HIGH STREET A local's pub, but not a good one unfortunately. Only a solitary ale available and really not to my liking. The regulars were friendly enough I suppose, just not my kind of place however. |
66 /100 The Wheatsheaf (Holdens) (Bar) 379 HIGH ST Visited on 19th November 2016. Another nice trad boozer, 2 rooms and fairly basic decor, a proper locals pub, no frills. Holders provide the beer with a mix of handpull and electric dispense, quality was good, prices low and service efficient. Highlight of the area was the Indian sweet centre next door knocking out veg samosas for 25p fresh from the pan. Definitely go there! |
64 /100 Old Hop Pole (Bar) 474 HIGH STREET Visited on 19th November 2016. After the huge queue in first place decided to do this venue first. Nice old traditional looking pub, walls covered in Baggies memorabilia, a Tv playing sport and a shabby decor. Got seated and got a beer from the small but reasonable range. Quality and prices decent. Service good. Not a bad place at all. |
80 /100 The Vine (Bar) 152 ROEBUCK STREET A must to visit for any fan of the Baggies! Traditional, crowded, and boisterous, before/after match. Love the place! |
68 /100 WB Stores (Grocery Store) 35 CARTERS GREEN This has been one of my regular suppliers of Eastern European beers for a few years. Selection is generally decent however on some occasions it can be poor. One of those places you need to pop into periodically. Mix of Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian and some of the former soviet block countries.
Update. They seem to have stepped up a notch lately with more Russian and Romanian beers present. |
74 /100 WB Stores (Grocery Store) 35 CARTERS GREEN I claim no credit for finding this gem. Tomman gets all the credit for this find. This really does have a great selection of Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian and Ukrainian beer, with previously unseen treats popping up on each visit. It scores big marks for being a regular source of Aldaris Porteris and Zywiec Porter. It’s also a big draw for the local East Euro population and the selection of sausages seems very comprehensive. |
66 /100 Old Hop Pole (Bar) 474 HIGH STREET Nice boozer, opposite the Wheatsheaf. A small range of real ales, but the Salopian Oracle I supped was in beautiful condition. Lots of Baggies memorabilia. Nice locals. |
70 /100 The Vine (Bar) 152 ROEBUCK STREET Classic multiple-roomed and genuine backstreet boozer. Famed for its Indian food and a favourite with Baggies fans. Beer choice was limited when I was last in, so watch out. A lovely place. |
76 /100 The Vine (Bar) 152 ROEBUCK STREET I’ve been drinking in this place for years, but never wrote a review, so now is the time I guess. It started out in the world as a small Victorian backstreet working class pub. However, over recent years it’s been extended further and further and on a Baggies match day you might see 300+ people in here, including those standing outside right at the back. The Bathams is perhaps one of the best kept cask ales i’ve ever had. My last pint here was truly to die for. There’s plenty of the fizzy lagers too for the non-believers. The Indian food is exceptional. Their Chicken Tikka is legendary and the menu is huge. There really is something for everyone here and with a great family atmosphere too. Both the food and ale are very reasonably priced. Check it out, but if you go on a match day make sure to get there early. |
72 /100 The Vine (Bar) 152 ROEBUCK STREET Really crowded when The Baggies plays. Well worth a pint or two. Ok beer selection on tap and bottles. Good food! |
68 /100 The Wheatsheaf (Holdens) (Bar) 379 HIGH ST Nice old style community pub. An oasis in West Brom. Four Holdens beers and two guests when I was there. |
70 /100 The Wheatsheaf (Holdens) (Bar) 379 HIGH ST Very pleasant Holden’s pub in the town centre, proper old style pub. |
54 /100 The Red Lion (Bar) 190 ALL SAINTS WAY Good pub if you fancy a curry and a pint. Run by Indians so you can always get to watch the cricket as well as usual rubbish football games. No real cask ales just two Bitter kegs and 3 or 4 lagers. |
78 /100 The Wheatsheaf (Holdens) (Bar) 379 HIGH ST Almost the only good pub in West Bromwich. A good traditional boozer, which carries the full range of Holdens beers, plus guests. Cheap beer, cheap food. All round very pleasant. |
