“Drove by on our way out of Jena. Your usual Kaufland with an attached getranke markt. A few "craft" Uberquell, BRLO, and a few more othervise most all the bigger brands by the crate. Help yourself service and cheap prices.“

“One brewery, one style, nearly extinguished, hidden in a very small village in a unremarkable building. Parked in front of it but didnt realized i was already there. Just a quick stop halfway on my way to Berlin but well worth it. Lovely lichtenhainer from tap. Bottles to go for less than a Euro. Didnt eat. So down to earth. Absolutely worth a visit or detour if around.“

“Traditional looking brewery restaurant. Restaurant and bar area are quite large. Good service. Selection is rather limited to the usual light and dark largers, plus a hefeweizen. I tried the Schellenbier, a Bockbier, which was pretty good. Food was good. Prices reasonable. The brewery also produces its own whiskies, l tried the cask strength single malt, which I thought was decent. Worth a look if in Jena.“

“I did not se any craft beer here, maybe I was looking in the wrong place. Tons of stuff from the large commercial Bavarian breweries, and Bitburger. Plus Heineken, etc. There was one small shelf marked Craft Beer but the best it had was Chimay, nothing from Germany.“

“Stayed two nights here, with or without Mrs Blackhaddock, I'll never tell. Dinner in the garden was very nice, especially with good weather. Tasty food, great service. I asked if all five house beers were available and staff answered Yes, of course, always! as if it's a normal thing in Germany. Well, it isn't, this place is exceptional. And the beers were very solid. Meanwhile the guy at the table next to mine ordered a beer and the server asked him which of the five kinds he would like. The guy answered A normal beer, what do you think? And the guy proceeded to make fun of the server after he left for asking such a ridiculous question. Still some work to do in Germany I suppose. Worth diverting from your route to try this place.“

“2016 August. Hah, this one is tough. Walked to Wollnitz from Jena, took me around 40 minutes to get there, but the worst part is, that this place is so well concealed from visitor's eye, that I just walked it through (no GPS, just knew the street), began to ask locals for a help, and so on. Nevermind all this, the place itself is artifact of old times, the expression of german traditionalism and honesty. It looks like just like another residental house, part of the brewery is situated outside(!) the building, in the garden. It used to be the citadel, last standing point of lichtenhainer. Nowadays people are trying to imitate it, but it was preserved there, so kudos for that. You can get theirs lichtenhainer in both bottles, or draught (recommend you to try both, differences are enormous), food is decent by german standars - had my pork with fatty sauce of shooms, lichtenhainer was really handy in washing the palate. Went there in the evening of thursday, it was almost empty, and the experience of enjoying this historical stuff in middle of no-where, actually in peaceful garden, where you can see brewing kattles standing naked under the sky, will follow me for years to come. Worth a visit.“

“Just had a lovely meal and all five of their beers available on tap. Wife and I staying the night in the hotel part of the brewery. Beers all on the sweet side to be honest, but I enjoyed them all. Food good too, hope I have room for breakfast. Nice feel to the whole set up, bar and restaurant appointed with old brewing memorabilia and all the grounds neat and tidy. Staff pleasant and helpful : 9th May 2017. Part of my 40th Wedding Anniversary grand tour.“

“Large upmarket Brauhaus on the western outskirts of Jena; five very decent beers - by german Hausbrauerei standards - are available, both bottled and tapped; friendly service. Worth a stop when You’re in the Weimar-Jena region!“

“Visited Dec 2016, en route. A memorable, well-salted hearty solyanka provides the ideal pairing to revisit in situ the last traditional German Lichtenhainer standing. Well-hidden residential house. Stag’s antlers, plastic tent, brewer gruffly digging into his Mettwurst upon opening. Straightforward, obviously not geared towards exports or beer tourists or even too interested in accomodating FAQ-banter, short: an authentic whiff of GDR, 25 years after. One of my German road trip highlights 2016.“

“Wonderful ambience with the wooden interieur, old brewing equipment, lots of guests (i count them as ambience), big windows aso.. Service was friendly (more than i expected, sorry my east german pals). Good selection of traditional german beer styles, but i would love a (maybe) seasonal, more "experimental" beer in their menu. Decent food, lots of local ingredients, traditional dishes with a few modern modifications. I like that! Unfortunately my potato gratin was a bit cold. Too fancy food wouldnt emphasize the atmosphere of this more or less rustic brew pub. Next time i’m going to try their Bierbrand, that’s for sure.“

“Having first visited a Kaufland in Magdeburg with great success, we decided to try another Kaufland, when in Jena anyway. I had expected to see many of the same beers as in Magdeburg, but the selection here was very different. We had walked out of the Magdeburg branch with 41 new beers and the next day we picked up another 47 new beers at this location. At both places we were picky and could easily have bought more. They had loads of beers from Thuringia and some from the surrounding bundesländer as well. Go here for local beers. The most expensive beer was 72 cents :-)“

“Nice historic brauhaus with lots of brown wooden interieur. Always four regulars on tap. I had their schnitzel with cheese ( close to a cordon bleu) and it was very nice.“

“This is a lovely brauhaus on the outskirts of Jena. The interior has lots of dark wood - exactly my kind of place. There is also a nice garden. The service was both friendly and efficient. The five beers were all in good condition and good compared to beers of the same style. The food was really good as well. Overall a great experience.“

“You have to go or drive up a narrow street to get there but it is worth it. It was already full just after it opened at 12 am. Ok service, food was not so good. But let’s be serious - you’re not gonna go to a legendary place like this for the food, will you? Their lichtenhainer is very good, its legendary status is well deserved. What I found slightly disturbing was that the overall sales volume of the pub might be on the side of the Kostritzer Schwarzbier, which they also have on draft. And what I found most intriguing was that most of the brewing equipment was placed outside in the garden, in the heat of the sun. Go there, by all means. Just for the beer. It’s a one beer destination like Prague’s U Fleku, and not one to be missed.“

“The building is nice because it has large windows; from the proper biergarten the most visible item is a nice copper distillery system. The service was annoyed, probably they didn’t want to entertain customers at 10pm and were already thinking of going home. At least they have 5 beers, more than the average German brewery, of quite good quality, some of the most pleasant in the region.“

“It’s a fantastic house-garden, charming, relaxing, with water flowing next to the biergarten; full of wood decoration, indoor and outdoor; the food is quite good; they brew only one beer, simple, but it’s a pleasant one.
This place really deserves a visit, for the experience; amazing to find a brewery in a residential area like that; I was there in the summer, but I believe in the winter, inside, it gets warm and cozy, the best place where to spend a snowy evening.“

“Visited summer 2011. Had to park the car in the city center ( due to road work ) and we walked up some narrow streets, and it was a very, very hot summerday, at last we arrived at destination, ready for a beer... We sat in the lovely beergarden, enjoying the well served beer, and had a nice chat with the landlady. This place is for sure worth a visit if you are in the area.“

“Visited this lovely brauhaus, summer 2011. We had a lovely brotzeitteller ( and a snaps ) in the cosy beergarden, lots of tables ouside in all sizes, really a family place. Also inside was rather spacy. Friendly staff, and the beers were nice, lunch as well. Parking rigth next to the brauhaus. If you are in the area, this brauhaus is for sure worth a visit...“

“Food was excellent and the beer was deeply satisfying. Love the place itself, quiet and shaded, breezy, sound of running water from the fountains, lots of tall trees and flowers about, very peaceful. Absolutely worth the trek from central Jena, and I’d argue worth a sunny afternoon’s visit from Leipzig or Weimar.“

“In a residential area (thought the GPS was messed up and passed by the place initially). Restaurant is in the back. Nice little place with good food. Have a couple other beers on tap, but if you make the effort to get here, you’re probably only interested in the Weissbier anyway (available to go as well).“

“From the street it looks like a ordinary house, walk around and there is a large outside area, partly covered, and the entrance to a cosy place with good food at very decent prices, and of course the main attraction: Wöllnitzer Weisbier, a sour wheatbeer. Like Berliner Weisse and Gose you can also get it with syrup or some Schnapps. Bit out of town, there are regular buses, but it is still some 10 minutes walk from the busstop.“
