ALBO Drinks (Beer Store)

“Large, spacious drinks' market and drive-in with a lot of wine and spirits, and a good choice of beers, even when the focus is definitely on Belgian and local beers. Not the one for exclusive bottlings, but indeed for local, rare to find craft/client beers. Staff is quite helpful, spaciousness makes it easy to overlook. Isn't all that expensive neither. Somehow, I skipped this little item: the exact address, is Frans van Dunlaan 63, and that is WILRIJK, not Mortsel.“

“This is probably the easiest of all place ticks, because they don't even sell beer. Apparently they used to sell some macros, but not anymore. And they have a lot of overpriced American food that is expired. Do the place tick if you're at 77ships's just to show how ridiculous it is that we cannot delete places on RB.“

“An upscale liquor store that looks like a huge classic Getränkemarkt from the outside (with drive-in and all that). Located in 77ships's neighborhood which is probably the only reason why ratebeerians end up ticking this. Wide range of Belgians in large quantities, but also some nice foreign beers available. Also lots of Liquor/Spirits. Got some cheap Lambic and left again. Don't go out of your way for this (i.e. only do it if you are at 77ships's already).“

“Very expensive shop, with a lot of American imported goods, mainly (if not all) food items. A lot of which are past date. Some are in the sales section because of that reason, others are just in the shelves and bad luck if you forgot to check. (Had some Reeses Butter Cups that were 11 months past date and really disgusting.) Most of the stuff doesn’t have a price. The few American and Scottish (Brewdog) beers that are here, are also available at Delhaize or Albert Heijn, and cheaper as well. So, actually not much of a reason to come here...“

“Sort of an up-scale drink shop, mainly focusses on hard liquor, all sorts of whisky, gin and other fancy drinks. Quite a big beer selection as well, mostly the regulars, but a couple of new, local beers I hadn’t tried before. Got about 4 or 5 new ticks in here, which is not bad at all! Maybe a bit pricey...“

“Visited October 2012.

We had to make a last minute run to Antwerpen from Brussels to drop off half a dozen cases of Cantillon to be shipped back to California and while here we decided to get a quick place tick and some over priced knock-off McDonalds. The whole scene was comical. Of the three people in the 6-speed Focus one had a Belgian drivers license but does not actually know how to drive, one had an American license but does not know how to drive a standard, and one has no license at all but knows how to drive a standard. Guess which one drove.

The setup is interesting in that you literally drive into the building. I’d hate to have to load cars all day inside a smog-filled building but I guess a couple of Rochefort 10’s would make me forget all about that. Or maybe the carbon monoxide poisoning would do that for me and no beer would be needed. The selection was great for a couple of degenerate tickers such as ourselves as they had a bunch of cheaper stuff that we don’t get in the states like some of the Timmermans varieties. Seeing the prices of some of my favorites makes me angry that there isn’t a cheaper way to get this stuff to California. Rochefort 10 for 1.3 euro per bottle? I’ll take 10 cases please. Not much in the way of service but who cares, this is like the Costco of beer stores. Actually the service is more than happy to load your car for you but I didn’t really interact much with them in the store.“

“I didn’t even realize that this place was up on RB. This place is open only a couple of days per week mainly when the other stores are closed like Sunday. The deal is here that the owner arranges every couple of months to have a couple of containers shipped from the USA. Usually this concerns American food stuff that can withstand the apocalypse. Stuff like Oreo’s, hot sauces, canned pie filling etc. Most of the stuff is crazily expensive in my opinion, a lot of it seems more like a novelty than anything else but lots of people (mainly Americans living briefly here) stop here. As far as beer goes, he usually gets macro. One of the macro brands will be something like Coors & the others will be strangely mainly Mexican Macro’s like Dos Equis, you get the drill. Given his mode of operation, selection changes rarely & is mainly limited to 5 – 6 brands, the display is a bit disorderly. I think it is something like 2 € and a bit for a bottle. As far as beer goes, this place is okay to pick up a few pricey Macro tick’s but absolutely nothing you should ever bother with unless if for some odd reason you happen to be very close to it. There are no other worthwhile beer destinations nearby so there is no other place visit you can combine with this one. So yeah, very pointless overall for beer unless if you are desperately craving fro Coors Light.“

“77ships took me here. Nice selection of beers, not a whole lot of rarity, but great prices and there will always be something you want.“

“A drive in liquor store of sorts. Parking is essentially inside, which is kind of weird, but it works. The beer selection here isn’t huge, but certainly adequate. All Belgian beers, of course. Prices are not bad and the styles really run the gamut. Worth a stop if you’re nearby.“

“Cool warehouse type of looking place that you actually drive into as you go to the garage. Great service, polite, help you loading things into your car type of thing. Quite stocked about the whiskey section, no rare stuff but definitely nice, some really cool stuff, probably irrelevant on RB. Some vodka, absinth & exactly 1 sake. Well-priced soda. Beer wise, wholesale, crates of macro stuff, some decent big beers, quite a bit of Proef beers. Expect wholesale here, don’t go for rare or import type of stuff. Will probably find some okayish small beers though. The is the place to come to if you want to buy a crate of Orval, St. Bernardus or Jupiler, that kind of stuff. Prices are of course excellent, don’t forget to calculation in the deposit on the bottles.“

“Rather expensive place that sells a fair amount of foodstuff that’s usually past its shelf life.“
