60 /100 The Speakeasy (Bar) RUE DES FRÈRES WRIGHT 8 Bar inside Charleroi airport with a tiny selection of good Belgian beers. Expensive. |
64 /100 2, RUE DE BRABANT Large open multilevel space with lots of brewery beers to sample via flights of four. Not many listed on RateBeer and menu isn’t very descriptive tho. Needs local ticker… Good food so worth dropping by. |
50 /100 La Cuve à Bières (Bar) BOULEVARD JACQUES BERTRAND 68 Wanted to try Hop’s Craft Beer Store but it was not open. So settled for this place! Basic bar with a two page list of Belgians, but a pretty mediocre selection. |
74 /100 Chez ta Mère (Bar) CHEZ TA MÈRE Visited on a Saturday evening, central, the vibe at this place was definitely very different from the rest of the city. Open and packed, there was a band playing inside doing partially covers including a sarcastic Coldplay cover, not a great band but lots of audience participation, singing, fair terrace outside. Not a huge place but definitely some room and a clientele that was more millennial, tad hipster. QR code and service at the bar. Limited number of taps but including a Malheur 10 which I got. Menu is a mix of Waloon beers that I have never heard of, the bad like Kwaremont on tap and the good Tartaruga, things like De Rank. Not all gold but maybe 50 beers available and definitely some nice to fine. Good ambiance. Looks like a great stop in town especially given how my first choice was closed upon visiting. You could easily get here from the train station if some time to kill. |
64 /100 RUE DU BASTION D'EGMONT 3 This is not a place that I would normally add but the hostel bar is quite interesting actually. It is very big, nicely done, spacious with a balcony also lounge couches with a big TV. They have a selection of about a dozen beers from nearby mainly small breweries that I have never heard of and didn't see at the other local bar I visited. I had a Blanche de Charleroi. Nothing that is bout to be great and my beer wasn't or worth hunting down but Charlerloi isn't a town with a massive craft scene or anything so this is of some interest. |
50 /100 La Brasserie Quai 10 (Bar) QUAI ARTHUR RIMBAUD 10 If you find yourself laying over in Charleroi there is a chance you'll stay near the train station. Beer options are very limited here and this one is not good. It's a large cinema bar with small patio outside. Very bright, too much light for me. There are several local micros on tap and in bottle. And that's about it. La Manufacture Urbaine is around the corner and although it's not very good it's still better than this place. |
60 /100 2, RUE DE BRABANT Visited in the evening. Struck me as a bit odd place because it seemed lake a brewery, restaurant and a club, all in one. Loud music and some disco lights. Friendly, but a bit confused service. About 5 of their beers on tap, however the quality was below average. Not much of a place, but considering the state of the town not sure one could expect somewhat better. |
64 /100 La Cuve à Bières (Bar) BOULEVARD JACQUES BERTRAND 68 Best beer bar in Charleroi, that’s it, This is the only "beer destination" in the city. 75 beers, friendly service. Nothing special. |
64 /100 La Cuve à Bières (Bar) BOULEVARD JACQUES BERTRAND 68 Best place to drink a beer in Charleroi (maybe and the only one). Friendly service. Selection of beers nothing special. |
62 /100 La Cuve à Bières (Bar) BOULEVARD JACQUES BERTRAND 68 Very lively beer café. They have a good selection, mostly Belgian beers, nothing rare. They atmosphere is what makes this place stand out: a lot of fun people from Charleroi coming here, very welcoming and open to new people. On busy nights it might be hard to place your order though |
62 /100 Au Beffroi (Bar) RUE DU DAUPHIN 15 Sort of brown / pool café, but they serve good beer as well. The place itself looks good, although the terrace is a bit shabby. The hostess is very inviting and they have overall good service. Selection is mostly Belgian beers, also some Geuze and Saison, They have a lot of good beers, but no rare stuff. Prices are good. |
86 /100 La Cuve à Bières (Bar) BOULEVARD JACQUES BERTRAND 68 In a quite depressive Charleroi, this a place where you can go nad find also something. |
