“First visit, April 2016. I’ve spent more time in Woodstock in the 3 years since I’ve been back in the Midwest than I did in all the years (well, decades) that I did when I used to live in Wisconsin or Chicago. Basically it’s a train stop and I’m picking up my brother there sometimes - and we inevitably have a beer or bite to eat before heading out. We used to go to the Public House, which had a decent beer selection and nice menu, but they are under new ownership and it’s a different place now, and the vibe just didn’t feel cool. So we checked this out instead.

OK fairly typical Midwestern small bar/pub ambiance, looks like they’re trying to tread the line between classy and divey. Service was a bit on the slow side; food is OK pub & grill stuff, HUGE portions of course, a slight Cajun twang but that’s about all that can be said; I had a shrimp po’boy that was OK. Most of it is named after characters or events in "Groundhog Day" which was filmed here. HA! Tap selection was fine - lot of local stuff, including what I had, Pig Minds Tripel, which was fine but not great. Can’t remember what bro had; but I do remember hearing a couple of guys at the bar talking about beer, and I think one of them may have been on this site on his phone. So I thank this otherwise so-so place with putting the germ of Ratebeer back in my empty head, though it took a while to flower and grow...“
