“Gorgeous interior with so many small details, fun signs, colorful decorations etc. Looks amazing with a great sense of humor. 10 taps with some dedicated to Bockor, LeFort, Musketeers, one local brewery, BBP. Not the wildest selection but some good beers. Beer menu is in line with Trappist beers, St. Bernardus, Viven, Alvinne etc. Order at the bar, okay prices. Fun place to hang out in. One of the snacks is a pack of Bugels with a whole pack of cream cheese for 6 euro. Fun hangout. The days of this place having more geeky craft are over.“

“Basement bar with stairs leading you down very close to the station. Behind the bar there is a huge selection of cd’s, looks like a concert venue, a band seemed to go on soon when we were there, regular sang along to a Fugazi song. Toilet is again up a stairs through a red door. Beer is Omer-vanderghinste, seemed more like a music place than a beer bar but we were looking for just a place to get a drink so this worked out well.“

“Massive, massive Irish pub totally packed with people. Chairs that are decorated like wooden church chairs, glass windows including portrait of last Kortrijk Begijn. Crazily big, maybe biggest bar I have been to in Flanders yet. Loads of servers, people, noise, crazy, the decorations. Taps are all rubbish Guinness, Kilkenny, Sommersby, Carlsberg etc. Bottle menu does have Omer, Chimay, Orval etc. Prices are okay. Vegan and vegetarian food available, tried avocado & quinoa burger which was okay, fries were way too undercooked which seems to be standard. Friend got Irish loaded fries which came topped with guacamole & pickled jalapeno, I have no idea how that is Irish, she seems to have gotten food poisoning next day. Odd, massive and cheap but draws the crowds for sure.“

“The color scheme and decorations of the place are just gorgeous. Instruments up on the wall, painting, portraits, clocks, candles, wood, red, comfortable, totally fabulous. Very friendly service, beer selection is not wild but they have Omer-Vanderginste, Dupont, Ruimtegist etc. They have the basic offering of about all Islay whiskeys for about 7 – 8 euro for 3 cl. and a few other bottles. The decorations, mood, atmosphere really do it, massively comfy place where we stayed longer than expected. They do concerts (folk mainly) from time to time.“

“Deep, long popular coffee shop looking place. Service by QR or at the counter. Quick service, we ate here, good portions and quite tasty, got a vegan mac & cheese. Big breakfast also looked very proper, cake, coffee, lemonade, home made kombucha, pastry, cake, lots of fun decorations. In the back there is a brewery (Ruimtegist), they make 3 beers, blond, triple & quad, which are solid. Defiently worth coming here for whatever, beer, cocktail, food etc. Besides their own beer, bee menu is rather small but the usual Kortrijk beers are available as well.“

“Looks like a coffee place foremost which is what most people were drinking here. Lots of tables on the street, looks small first but there is more space in the back / upfront. Quick, friendly service. Beer menu is not the focus, not big but they have Ruimtegist, St. Bernardus, local Special Belge that I have never seen before and a few others. Comfy, pleasant for a coffee or beer.“

“Old school, rather small and somewhat messy 'drankenhal' near Kortrijk, of the kind you'll find in any Belgian village or town; they do offer a selection of very local beers, though, many of which you will not easily find anywhere else, like Johan Tack's whisky barrel aged project, Pottelbergh, rare Gulden Spoor beers and others; the second floor, which is so badly advertized that I simply missed it the first time I visited the place, is especially interesting for Belgian craft beers, with many dozens of sometimes underexposed Belgian ales to choose from. They also have a more than decent selection of lambics (if you manage to find it: it's close to the counter, on your right hand side if you approach it from inside the store). Anything else is rather negligible (the 'big names'), but if you intend to find unlikely Belgian ticks from the Kortrijk region and beyond, this one is worth the detour; I did not spot any foreign craft beers worth mentioning when I was there, but apparently this has been the case in the past at some point, according to some of the ratings below. For me personally this is only about half an hour drive by car and that seems worthwile; easy to combine with a visit to the grand Bierhalle Deconinck too, of course. Very helpful and efficient staff and more than decent prices as well. Would visit again.“

“Finally made it to Kortrijk's foremost beer bar last week - unfortunately I never visited it when it was still run by the previous owner, as I came to understand that the 'beery' part of it has been tuned down a bit since then, with a less extensive beer menu. Still several interesting things on tap, though, including a Ghent beer I never even saw in Ghent itself; some of the tap beers were clearly past their prime, though, I guess this place simply does not attract enough craft beer lovers to keep it going, but it is to the current owner's credit that he advised against ordering certain beers because they were no longer in prime condition. Bottle list is a bit predictable, but does contain smaller breweries, if Belgian only (including a couple of traditional lambics - no rarities, though). Seems to have a kind of brown pub-like vibe to it, with a lot of attention for the music scene as well. I visited it on a relatively quiet night but I can imagine it being quite loud (and 'boozy') on a Saturday night. Still, clearly among the better options for decent artisanal beer in the town of Kortrijk, very reasonably priced as well.“

“Amazing bar, with great and friendly service. Personnel knows what they serve and help you choose if you are uncertain. Selection of beer is good, they have about 20 ish beers. Food is very nice and cheap. All in all, a comfy and chill atmosphere; perfect to enjoy a beer, a glass of whiskey, or any other of the many alcohols they have.“

Souffleur (Restaurant)

“We visited here Friday 27th April 2018, another place that we were visiting for the first time here and yet it is really quite central, its in a square, about 5 minutes walk from the station and even less to Gainsbar. It has a lovely looking exterior as it is housed in a lovely stone building. I have added this as a restaurant, truth is whilst it clearly does food I think that it could just as easily be logged as a bar.

We sat outside soaking up some sun and ordered some food and a beer. The list was pretty good but we decided on old favourites Orval (Loz) and Duvel Tripel Hop Citra (Fin). We ordered Croque Monsieur (or similar) and salad and it was very good, a bit pricey perhaps but the portions were substantial and the salad very fresh. There were a few folk sat outside and whilst I didn't really venture inside other than to pay the bill there were a few inside also. It appeared quite spacious inside and also fairly modern looking with a large bar area in the centre.

We liked it here, the service was very good, swift and friendly. The beer choice whilst it didn't have much unusual stuff did provide a pretty wide range. I would definitely return, probably for a bite to eat again.“

“We visited here Friday 27th April 2018, this was our first visit here and yet it is but a stones throw from Staminee Boulevard. Its about a 7-8 minute brisk walk from the centre heading east and can be found on the corner of Vaartstraat and Harelbeeksestraat. I understand that it is a small Hotel/B&B, however we came here for a meal and a beer.

The tables were made up for diners and so it was difficult to really get a feel for the place as a bar, however we entered from the corner and the bar/serving area was off to the left. I have to confess to not really recalling much about the beers available, suffice to say I believe that the choice was decent, I think that it is likely Loz had an Orval and I had a Rochefort 10. We opted for set menu €33 each I think for three courses, Goats Cheese Salad to start, Beef Stew (cooked in Chimay, I think) and Ice Cream or a Cheese Board for the third course. We enjoyed the starter's but the stew we thought was gloopy and well below par, it also glistened, so it's unlikely we would eat here again. Also the young female server had a complete air of indifference, she looked like she'd rather be anywhere else than here on a Saturday evening. So all in all this place just about registers as ok, but easily the weakest of the places we've been to today.“

“Nice beer bar in Kortrijk, centrally located. Small room, with a bar at the back, after a couple of wide steps (beware!). 10 taps, with good belgian classics and craft ones mixed with some really nice imports (Hair of the Dog when we visited). Bottle list is extensive, around 100 i guess, with lots of choices. Nice "No AB InBev crap served here" (or something similar) sign. Nice terrace outside, attentive service, fair prices and good vibe, strongly recommended if in the area.“

“Located in the city center. Visited several days in a row, before and after ACBF. It was quite relaxed, even peaceful before the festival and total madness after the festival which was expected, I guess. Not a large place, patio outside. Great music, punk and rock combination, really enjoyed it, gets a bonus for ambiance :) There are 10 beers on tap, mostly Belgian alongside some imports like Magic Rock. Very nice bottle list with affordable prices, Belgian modern craft, lambics, imported stuff - a little bit of everything. As good as it gets in a small place like Kortrijk, a must visit.“

Nata (Restaurant)
GROTE MARKT 4

We visited Nata on Thursday 11th March 2016, This Café/Restaurant occupies a prime spot in the Grote Markt although some building work smack opposite meant our view was of a chap moving large concrete blocks with a JCB or similar vehicle, but hey it was a wonderfully sunny day so we sat outside. Most of other the other outside tables were also full with others taking full advantage of this great weather, only three days previously there had been heavy snow in these parts we were told.

As the previous rater mentions, this isn’t really much of a place to lure in beer lovers, it just about gets a nod from me for including Orval and Duvel Triple Hop amongst an otherwise very small and unexciting choice, we had one of each. Inside this is a very big and quite smart place certainly more geared towards those eating, in fact it stretches back a long way and also has a similarly proportioned area upstairs, it was empty inside, I nipped in as the toilets are upstairs.

Unfortunately this place seems to be plagued by rather bold but mangy looking pigeons who were frequently on top of tables scavenging for food, If I was the proprietor I would have to do something about that. Anyway back to the bar, it’s ok but there are much, much better bars in town.

VLASMARKT 1

We visited Gainsbar Thursday 11th March 2016, This Café is located reasonably centrally a few minutes walk from the Grote Markt on Vlaasmarkt. It was a gloriously sunny day so we sat outside, there were a couple of other tables already occupied with folk doing the same.

This is a smaller bar than I expected inside, the bar is ahead as you enter, but be aware as there are a couple of steps up to it. Inside there was a few tables and chairs stairs to the RH side of the bar led upstairs to the toilet, I would imagine this place would be quite difficult to access if you were disabled or used a wheelchair. Information about the beers available is displayed prominently to the LH side and on a pillar at the bar. There were ten taps dispensing a good choice of beers, we had Mikkeller Monks brew, Handbryggiet Flemish Brown with Cherries and Gulden Spoor Quad on tap and Loz also had to have an Orval. We also had a plate of cheese with mustard and celery salt, it was a huge slab of Jonge Gouda.

The barman knew his stuff, he was very professional, however he didn’t appear so friendly or in the least bit chatty, which is fine I guess, perhaps at just after opening it was a bit too early in the day for him yet. We liked it here it’s a great bar and on beer choice alone probably the best in town I shouldn’t wonder, however for us, taking everything else into account it was bettered by Staminee Boulevard and Café In De Wolken.

“My favorite place in Kortrijk, located in the center, some 3 minutes from the main square and 5 minutes from the train station. 10 taps, I think 3-4 are reserved for Guests and the rest are from local breweries. Small 0.16l and 0.33l options so it’s nice for tasting. Really nice guest beer on tap can be found here, Mikkeller for example. Some 120+ bottles, also a lot of local smaller breweries, lots of de Struise. No InBev as they say :) The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, with nice suggestions and serving in proper glassware. The place is rather small, some 7-8 tables and the bar, rather low light, a bit of beer soaked wood atmosphere, free WiFi. Usually it’s not really crowded except weekend evening. Music on vinyl, rock mostly, I’ve heard Dean Martin also and some I’d call usual hipster music which is to be expected from a beergeek bar like this. Also good source of information for beer related events in the area. I’ve been coming here every week while in Kortrijk, bringing my colleagues with me and hopefully I’ll return someday. “

There is a small area for some special beer like gueuze or lambic and also for special breweries, and if you go upstairs there is a huge selection of special Belgian breweries. “Great shop! This place goes further than most similar type of Belgian ’warehouse’ shops. Not only do they have a great amount of (mostly good) beers on offer, their service is top notch, speedy and friendly. Some euro craft (could still work on that, though) and decent to great prices. Went away with more than 3 crates of new ticks, so I certainly don’t complain! If they work on that international selection, all will be good for them.“

Entire selection of Gulden Spoor available, including homebeer Tineke van Heule. Prices are ok and staff is friendly. As it’s located at the end of my street, I pass by regulary. “Nice cool modern bar in the centre ideal for Cantillon; De Dolle and 3 Fonteine. I like the late hours on the weekend and the choice of music by DJ’s was commendable. It gets very busy and is clearly a popular destination for beer geeks. The beer choice is good. I enjoyed a Struise Pannepot Reserva and many lambics were consumed. I was also happy to find De Dolle. It is a very loud and modern beer bar. It’s a good place but with a few more tweeks could be amazing. Thanks to Glenn of Alvinne for pointing this place out to me.“

“Great local pub in the Kortrijk City centre. Went there on a saturday afternoon around 3PM. Place is really cozy, but apparantly it’s mainly in the evening that this place gets crowded and that you get a good vibe. Bartender was really friendly, real beergeek. Only served beer at the bar. But as we ordered some special stuff, he immediatly recommended the ACBF in a few weeks at Bierhalle Deconinck. Value is very decent: Oerbier Reserva at 7 euro, Hanssens Oudbeitje at 6 euro... The menu is really nice with really good price (the x-mas beer selection was really relevant). About the tap there is 6 taps with classical belgium and local pils as Bokor but 2 craft taps like Struise, De Molen... The place is clean and really nice good decoration. And also good music. The people inside are calm and the place is not noisy, and the music is really great oldies rock and pop with vintage vinyls !“
