“Visited on a trip through Iowa. Located in a touristy area, parking located behind the brewery. Small stand alone building. Gift shop and tap room combined, with minimal seating inside. There is patio seating, but it was to hot the day we visited. View of the actual brewery behind some large glass windows. Service was sub par on my visit, not very friendly and seemed annoyed to have to deal with any guests. Selection consisted of 8 taps, six packs and bottles for sale. Two free sample pours, additional are around $3. Overall, worth a stop if your in the area.“

“As far as tasting rooms go, this one isn’t bad. The beers are pretty standard and there isn’t a great selection. Visited with Jess in 2016.“

“Small, historic taproom, nice ambiance. The bartender was talkative, friendly and helpful, great service. Got to chat with the brewer as well. They had 7 beers to try, 6 tasters for ~$10 and you got to keep the glass. Most of them were pretty good. Some cool glassware for sale as well. One of the oldest craft breweries in the country, and a must stop in Eastern Iowa.“

“My favorite brewery in Iowa. I had some pretty good german beers here. I would say that one of the downsides is that the seating inside isn’t that great (basically picnic tables) and they serve the sample in clear plastic cups (rather than actual glassware). But overall, a cool brewpub to visit in Iowa.“

“Nice atmosphere set in a small German town setting. Patio is nice to have a beer on in the summer time and the staff have always been kind. The beer is average, nothing bad, but definitely nothing to write home about. It is a local brewery so I will continue to show my support.“

“Very touristy. Offputtingly so. Some of the beers are decent, and I’m a sucker for craft rootbeer, so at least there’s that. But in a gift shop full of kitschy glassware, they serve beer in plastic cups. Employees seemed annoyed that anyone was there and were not particularly friendly. The outdoor biergarten seating is pretty nice, or would have been if they weren’t blasting silly German drinking music. This place was ok, but it’s more for the tourist than the beer enthusiast.“

“This is a nice place with usually around 5 beers available at any given time. They also make their own pop: root beer, cream soda, and black cherry. The ambiance is nice and the decor wonderful but it is a little small. If there’s more than 6 or so people it can start to get crowded. An update to a lot of the earlier reviews, they do have an indoor seating area now. Maybe only a half dozen tables or so, but it makes it nicer to stop by in the colder months. The staff is always knowledgeable and wonderful. You can get glasses or pitchers to sit and relax or buy 6 packs or growlers to take home. Bring the growler back and fill it up next time. Two growlers and a towel fit pretty nicely into a regular Playmate cooler for those longer drives or the hot summer months when you’re going to be spending the day walking around the town.“

“My personal favorite brewery in Iowa. I tasted about six of their beers at the brewery and got two others to go that weren’t on the sampler. Pretty good beers.“

“I always make it a goal to stop here. Very friendly staff and great environment. Nice beer garden for live music and scenery. Making it there for Octoberfest for sure.“

“I like to stop in here now and again, all their beers are very good and the building is quaint and very nicely decorated. There are no tours, but the staff will talk with you about anything. When the weather permits they have a nice beer garden.“

“Amana Brewing is located in the main Amana Colony, and driving in you get the entire visual tour of the colony as the brewery is at the end of the drive, located in a small wooden building near the factory, so essentially you just follow the smokestack to reach the brewery. We visited in the winter, so the patio out front wasn’t in use, but it appears that they have a few tables and chairs for the tourists and visitors to sit and enjoy a drink, because, frankly, the inside is an uncomfortable place to drink. It’s a tasting room with a small bar, and if it’s busy you’ll find yourself shoulder-to-shoulder with other folks. Large windows let you peer into the brewery, and the taproom is adorned in brewania and gifts: steins, bottles, shirts and hats, with historic brewery artificats and decorations lining the walls above your head. What’s available depends on the season, but on tap in December was the wheat, IPA, vienna, stout, and John’s Generation witbier, and bottles of each of these were for sale as well. You can either sample for free (please tip) or buy a plastic cup pint for around $2.75, which really is a great deal. I picked up a couple of swing-top 1 L bottles for $7 each (fantastic deal if you homebrew or handbottle), and I left with a greater appreciation for this brewery, simply because I like they way they operate and I like their setup“

“Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Located in the Amana Colonies, which I guess is a touristy place. I wouldn’t have gone there except for the beer, but that’s just me. The place itself was really small, and when we were there, it was kinda crowded. The guy behind the taps was friendly and gave me one ounce samples when I requested, and the beers themselves weren’t that expensive. They were all ok. The ones I had were not by any means bad, but nothing I had to stock up on and bring home. I would not drive to again while driving along I-80 for the beer, but if I ever got to the point in my life where the Amana Colonies seemed like fun to me, I’d stop back in.“

“You have to know what you like when you go in to buy or you can try a 14 oz. cup of any brew they have for $2.75. I will say the German Pilsner is refreshing and has a crisp taste.“

“Try and plan your visits here for May and October when they have fests. At all other times, it’s still really nice to sit outside in their hop garden and drink a pitcher. As I remember, they close fairly early when it is not a festival, so make sure you check on the hours. The shop sells Millstream beeriphernalia. You can get the John’s Generations here in the one liter flip cap bottles.“

“Great place to have a beer in an historic location. No inside seating, but in the summer there’s an impromptu beirgarten, surrounded by what was originally a German commune, now kind of a tourist trap for woolens, furniture, and fruit wines (many wineries, but only this brewery). Food is limited to landjaeger sausages at the bar, but samples are freely given, and take-home is available in sixpacks and stoppered 750 ml bottles. Growlers filled too.“

“Cool place located in the historic town of Amana. The brewery itself is a small, unassuming building with a patio outside covered by a trellis with hops growing on it. It’s a nice place to sit and enjoy their beer. If you’re there for Octoberfest it is a real blast, as the town was originally settled by German immigrants. There are several good German restaurants in town. They also host the Annual Festival of Iowa Beers (usually held in September). “

“Went on a Sunday morning, this was my third visit to this quaint little brewery, and it was definatley the quietist. Walked around an empty showroom(thank goodness) and had a owner tell me what was good and all about the new brews.“

“Stopped in June 2005. Amana itself is a waste of time, but Millstream makes some good brews and their little beer shop and patio is worth the diversion off I-80.“

“Nice little shop with all of their available beers. You can also get the root beers and various other soft drinks they produce. On tap, they have all of their beer they currently have available. When warm, they have benches and tables. You are stuck in the small sampling area only when it is cold. Also, Amana is a tourist type town with German food.“

“I visited this place the day after Christmas 04. It was very home-towny. Free samples. Easy access to buying beer. They also have clothing and glassware available. The brewmaster was in when we were there. No place to sit. Standing room only. The beer is better than the little area where you can sample it.“
