“This was my first visit to the Ludlow Theatre since before Bircus moved their brewpub from the smaller building next door. There have a lot of changes since then. There is now a bar with seating right past where you walk in, in the same locaiton as the concession counter very likely was when the theatre originally opened in the 1940s as a movie theater. There were at least 20 Bircus taps with their beers and one seltzer, with a guest tap for cider. The selection of liquor and (especially) wine was more limited. On the lower level behind the bar were numerous tables and chairs. Mrs. Drjohnrock and I were there to see a band but I would assume they are there when no performances are scheduled. There was also a balcony with additional tables and chairs--don't know if it's open when there are no performances. I asked if flights were available and was told only at the bar, where I wasn't going to sit for the show since you can't see the stage from there. I doubt they have the same rule when there aren't any performances. Earlier reviews noted that beer was served in plastic cups rather than glassware, and that's still the case. That's something that should change. Staff was friendly and helpful. Other than popcorn (free!) and other snacks, the only food available is pizza, which we didn't have but looked good. I have always found Bircus beers to range from good to very good. Despite the weird flight policy, this is a unique space for a brewpub in a small town that is still close to Covington and Cincinnati. Definitely worth a stop.“

“Open, gym hall style facility. Service is friendly and attentive. Not a huge selection. Good pizza.“

“Visited on a Tuesday afternoon before a flight, and also before they opened (thanks for hosting me anyway!). Bircus is in the process of moving from their initial tasting room to the Ludlow Theater immediately next door. When I visited, it was certainly a work in process, though the vision is there, and it’s impressive. The bar is located right up front, with seating at the bar. At this point, that is about all the seating there is, though there is plenty of room to hang out. Beer selection is 9 house beers served in plastic currently, though long term plan is obviously for glass. I tried about 5 of the beers, and they were all well above average. I had a really great time hanging out with the brewer, and will certainly check this place out again to see how the project progresses.

82 = ***½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“The Bircus taproom is located right next to the Ludlow Theatre, which is still being renovated. It's unclear to me whether this will still be the taproom when the theatre is done, or whether they'll move it into the cooler building. As it stands, this is a pretty nondescript storefront and room. There's a short bar in the back and some tables, with a popcorn machine and a turntable off to the side, and not much else. There were about a dozen tap handles and I think I counted 9 on tap when I visited. There wasn't much of a crowd. The beer is served in plastic, for now. Flights were $8 for 4, pretty standard. The beer was so-so. The bartender was the wife of the founder and he was in and out. I'll probably wait until the theater is open before I come back.“

“First visit here and was truly surprised at how well made the beers were. Tried the Alta Via Altbier, Kilpatrick's One Legged Dry Irish Stout, MIss Patterson Belgian Blonde, Showman IPA. Need to go back and try the rest. I could easily drink any of the first four again, though. This new place shows great promise.“
