“Visited with Terje while sailing through Staande Mastroute, Netherlands, with Baluba 07.07.23. Four beers on tap. Two of these were new to me. A much larger bottle selection. Most beers are Dutch, German and Belgian. Outdoor and indoor seating. Friendly service and atmosphere.“

“Located at the heart of the city centre, this spacious grand café is characterised by a moody dark interior. I randomly walked into this place to get a beer (any kind) so I was pleasantly surprised to find a beer menu of about 12 taps and 80 bottles. No surprises for the experience beer hunter, lots of Belgian beers and some Dutch IPAs, Brewdog, the odd Põhjala. Not thé place to stop for beers in Leeuwarden (that would be De Markies) but I found this serviceable for the occassion.“

“Solid beer shop in the centre of Leeuwarden. Best one around. They have a lot of Frisian beers (most of them not very good except for Grutte Pier Brewery) but also specials from White Pony, Kromme Haring, Pohjala, and other hard-to-gets.“

“Visit during the Reuzen weekend in Leeuwarden and they were definitely not up for it: half of the taps was empty, all of the food (they only serve snacks) was finished except for bread-plate. They closed at 22.00 because it had been a long day.... I would only visit again because this is the only decent beer-bar in Leeuwarden, but they should reconsider their service and logistics even when Leeuwarden is flooded by tourists. The one thing that saves them is the special bottle list, only visible on untapped (!), which provided me with some great baltic and UK craftbeers, barrel-aged barleywines etc..“

“Visited twice on the same Saturday, as a break from Into the Grave. Large brown café with a large bar to the right, looks neat and clean, lots of glassware on display. Stools at the bar, elevated seats at the walls, tables and chairs in the semi-separate left side of the café. Patio in front of the café, nice on a sunny day but not really with a view to speak of. Lots of wood and beer ornaments inside, tries to look old but in fact looks very new. Extensive bottled beer list, 12 taps with some nice surprises, prices I found to be on the high side, also for their own Grutte Pier beers. Staff was very friendly and attentive, know their beers. Had some snacks and a cheese plate as well for OK prices. Would visit again when in Leeuwarden, not just because there's not much else here beerwise.“

“Visited during ’’into the grave’’, cozy cafe with some outside seats. Selection of the bottles are the usual, apart from some local beers. Tap selection was good, prices on the higher end, service was friendly, definitely worth a visit.“

“Used to be a Mitra store. Not too many surprises here, mostly Dutch craft, Belgian and some international breweries. Found some nice local beers here, my reason for visiting.“

“Large bottle shop with around 200-300 bottles of beer. Typical Mitra I would say, lots of Belgians and some smaller Dutch breweries, a few Scandinavians, Americans and others as well, but nothing rare or hard to find. Good selection still, but I think the locals are a bit underrepresented. Prices are quite good, and the staff seems to know what they sell. Must visit when in town.“

“Neatly organized, medium-sized liquor store with a really small corner for beer. Maybe 50 different bottles, some regular Belgian and Dutch stuff, but more interestingly a relatively large section of local beers from Friesland. Decent prices, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Nothing worth a detour, but might be an interesting stop if you are in town, even if there is also a Mitra.“

“This is a pretty good location to find special beers by the bottle in Leeuwarden. In the city center off a canal. Large selection of, primarily, Dutch and Belgian brews, including lesser known Dutch breweries.“

“Nice little bar with a patio. Selection is fair, but not overly impressive. A good selection of local dutch beer. The same goes for the prices. Staff is friendly, and they have free wifi. Worth a visit.“

“A bit small but they got the interior look right. Plus, any place that has a cat lying around is OK in my book. Owners are chatty and enthusiastic about beer. Selection is unremarkable but decent, mostly Belgian classics and some Dutch brews, but also one or two varieties of Flying Dog and Brewdog. Owner should think about expanding his range, still far too many Dubbels and Tripels on the menu. Quite pricey, unfortunately. Nice little beer café.“

“I like going to the Markies, the ambiance is always great. The music is nice to listen to and then the beer, he doesn't have the biggest assortment but what he has is always great. To be short if you in Leeuwarden and want to have a nice beer go to this place.“

“Very small Beercafé in the city centre of Leeuwarden. The two owners are very enthousiastic about beer and keen to help you (or offer you a free sigar) Selection is rather small, being mostly a lot of belgian trappists and abbey beers. Some dutch brews and other beer from around the globe. There’s a weekly changing beer on tap.“

“Although Leeuwarden is a young and lively city, it is not easy too find a decent beerpub. De Strohoed is the only one I know. It is a cosy "bruine kroeg" with a safe, but long beer list. Mainly Belgian, some Dutch and German beers. The atmosphere is better than the selection.“
