“In a strip-mall area. Taproom itself was cozy - we were there mid weekday and can imagine it gets packed easily. Lots of their own on tap with several new to me. Chilled on sofas, stuck tablets in kids faces, sipped on samplers. Food was meh.“

“Grand Armory Brewing is in the left half of an old brick building in downtown Grand Haven. There's an awning and a foyer that leads to another business or two. Through the left door is a nice two-level tap room with stairs up to a mezzanine (which was closed when we were there). The bar is in the back, and the food is on the right, which seemed to be a separate vendor, Righteous BBQ. The food was overpriced but also oversized - the portions were enormous for sides in particular. The brisket tasted more like pot roast. There are 16 taps, all of which were full when I visited. The beer is okay. We mostly tried the barrel-aged stuff, which was a mixed bag. The service was nice. All in all, it's worth stopping here if you're in town but I'd probably eat elsewhere.“

“Odd Side's taproom is in the middle of an old L-shaped building on the main street (Washington) in downtown Grand Haven, so you can't see it from the street. There's a parking lot on the west side and small patio (smoking pad, really) to the east, along First Street. It's a warm, inviting, fun space, with a large L-shaped bar and room, dartboards, and tables scattered throughout. There were about 20 things taking up the 27 tap handles when I visited, including a root beer. Good variety on the taps. Prices are in line with expectations. Food is available, with a menu mostly of nachos, salads, and sandwiches. We got a salad and nachos and I thought both were just okay. Beer's good, though, and there's plenty of it.“

“Glad I got to hit this place up but it feel a little flat. The atmosphere was bumping but I didn't like the feel of it being in a strip mall. Lots of ticks and they have tasters. As far as the beers, they had a ton, and lots of one off ones but most were average. The had the heavy hitters on like nightman and Mayan, but I was hoping for some rarer stuff. Decent spot but for as far as it is, not worth going out of the way.“

“I'd definitely go again. It had a really nice and woody vibe. I took a book in just to read and drink beer, and I had such a nice time.“

“Located inside a shopping mall in an old building. Big place, and its clear no brewing happens in this unit. Large bar, lots of tables. Food was tasty. Bartender gave good service despite the place being super-busy right away. Probably 40 or so people within 15 minutes of opening... on a weekday. Tons of beers on tap. All of them quite well executed and tasty. Plenty of bottles to go. Solid prices overall. Nice place, worth stopping by. Looks like there’s another brewery half a block away, but I had neither the time nor the sobriety.“

“I’m really impressed. The associated BBQ and coffee place are horrid, but the ambience of the environment, the beer, and the service are great. I’d return for sure.“

“Place is hard to find from the outside, but the inside is pretty jive & cool. Decent sized with a pretty big tap list. Lots of cool & interesting beers, some really great ones. Didn’t get food but it looked pretty tasty. Some nice sofas in the back to relax & drink your beer on. All in all, a really cool place. Would love to go back soon.“

“Stop #6. Hidden away in a strip mall, but well worth looking for it. Cool atmosphere and a ton of different beers on tap. Grab a flight and shoot the breeze with the bartender while you check out the shops and the different things in the mall. Grab a mix six on the way out too.“

“Nice place. No food - but go to Ray’s and get some cheeseburgers and bring them here (they allow outside food). Pleasant enough place, if in an odd older Mall type of building (I think it was a piano factory). I had 17 different beers (!) and many were good. Certainly the best place for a beer in Grand Haven. I went just after the "Coast Guard Days" and as a result, several taps I wanted to try were out. But still, well worth a visit.“

“Stopped in for samples on a Tuesday afternoon. Friendly and prompt service (Marlon), and a great selection of brews to try. No food available, but a relaxed atmosphere in which to sit and sip. Had some really good samples, including a superb coffee beer and a barrel-aged Wee Heavy. Definitely worth a stop!“

“I really liked this place, small and cozy kind of a hippy vibe. Type o negative covering the Beatles ok. Lots of different beer style some I really like. Our bartender Sarah was exceptional. Well worth the trip from GR!“

“Visited on 06/22/2013 on Beer Trip 2013. Looks like a dive/townie bar from the outside. The inside is a mix of cool decor and dive bar decor. The waitstaff was super nice and very knowledgeable. This place is a hidden gem. I heard they have killer Mexican food. Who woulda thought. I couldn’t find it on ratebeer so I added it. A great end to a amazing Beer Trip 2013. Will try to make it back someday.“

“Visited 06.22.2013 on Beer Trip 2013. Cool chill bar, Great selection. We try to find ones we can’t get in Iowa. Played some darts and headed out to wander the downtown and find a place to watch the Stanley Cup hockey match.“

“Stopped up to check this place out while back home in Kalamazoo, and am very glad I did. The ambiance is nice, and the bartender was great. No food yet, although you can bring your own in, and they have chips and popcorn. Value is good too. Definitely worth the trip.“

“Cool little place. We ordered food from across the street and ate it at the brewpub. Had a few pints that were reasonably priced. Great ambiance. Service could have been better but it was on a holiday weekend and there was only one person working so I will cut some slack. Overall a nice place to enjoy a beer.“

“Great spot. In an odd commercial building, and has a kind-of coffee shop feel, but neither are too big a deal, and the selection is awesome. I strongly recommend their stouts - expect em to be light and thin, but very flavorful.“

“Cool place, located in a small shopping mall. pretty big with plenty of seating. Service was good, if a little indifferent. Beer was very good to bad, but they do try a lot of different flavor mixes and most of them are session friendly... that’s a plus. I liked the Peach Tea Blonde and Citra IPA; the Weed Party IPA and Watermelon wheat were ok; the Imperial Coffee and Orange Creme Stout were bad. I think this place is a lot like Short’s, A lot of misses, a few hits but always swingin’ for the fence. Also heard they will be increasing production soon. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.“

“This was good. The brewery produces a lot of heat and smell, so once they relocate that the pub will be better. But it was family friend, with lots of board games, big tables, a small patio, and friendly service. The beer selection has taken a hit, they said--good demand for their beer, they’ve been unable to keep up for the pub. But they still had 7 beers on tap. Interesting offerings but not mind blowing--what was cool was that all seven were a bit odd in concept. And Grand Haven is great--lovely town. I had a rocking bratwurst...the bar lets you bring in food, so it worked out well for my family.“

“Visited on a summer Saturday. Comfortable space, 6 beers on tap, an excellent session ipa, a good amber, an ok different ipa, a Mayan coffee stout with a huge cinnamon aftertaste, a blue berry chick beer clean, and a Belgian dubbel that was ummm tart. I left very underwhelmed. “

“This is a chill little brewery tucked away in a brick building near the river. Beer selection is a little quirky with interesting stuff. I had a tasty pineapple IPA. There is no real food available, just some chips. They have a load of different mugs adorning the back wall perhaps for regulars. They also seem to have an affinity for the mythical jackalope which reminded me of back in TN. Cool place.“

“Small place with the brewing equipment right in the tap room. Aroma of malted barley can be smelt before you even reach the door. A good amount of beer on tap, lots of different styles. Pay what I would expect to pay for a quality ale. Nice find, I would reccomend anyone who appreciates quality unique beer to stop by this place.“

“This place definitely surprised me! In some sort of old building with other shops. It has a nice ambiance for a small space. It has a good number of highly rotating good to very good beers. No food when I visited. Very reasonably priced with samplers.“

“Visited on a quiet Friday after lunch with my wife (Labor Day Weekend). Great selection of ales with 14/16 taps available and they were filling the last two as we were leaving. The pub is nicely decorated in an artsy-IKEA style with a mix of bar stools, cozy chairs and a couch. We tried a traditional Belgian Wit, Peanut Butter Cup Stout (on NITRO) and the Double Fat Bottom IPA. We were politely offered a few other samples that were also delicious and would make me happy to return again. I was told to keep an eye on local restaurant beer list’s as well; they had recently up-sized the equipment.“

“So I kinda stumbled on this place... no, not drunk, but it was an accident to find it. I stopped in with the wife while in MI visiting family and was really jazzed up to see some of the cool stuff that Odd Side is making. I was bummed that the website was a bit behind and they didn’t have a peanut butter cup stout or a passionfruit pale anymore, but I did get to try some really unique and excellently made beer. It’s a little like the guy next door went wild with homebrew and it mostly works and you get to try it all. I think they had 16 taps plus a soda, sold growlers ($5 for glass and 13.50 for regular brews, 20 for specials if memory serves.) Food was abysmal... just a few bags of popcorn, chips, etc, but I didn’t really go there to eat. The service was excellent and I chatted with the barman for a bit. This will definitely make trips to MI more exciting... Future trips have shown that this place is for real. I bumped up ratings for ambiance (seems better now that it’s busier), service and selection. This place is getting even better and will be something I look forward to during my trips to MI.“

“Visited O.S.A on a Saturday afternoon, and not many people were there, so it was nice to be able to chat with the owner/brewer. The inside is very comfy and welcoming, and the designs on the bar made of grains are awesome. So many beers to choose from, it was kind of overwhelming! I got the sampler with 1. Grapefruit Wheat 2. Sour Patch Pale Ale 3. Orange Cream Stout 4. Cherry IPA 5. Chocolate Milk Stout 6. Cinna Bun. They were all good, and very drinkable. I also ordered the Raspberry Wheat and it was delicious. I would recommend this brewpub to experienced beer geeks and people who usually drink light crappy beers.“

“I stumbled upon this place one day on ratebeer and I’m very glad I did. It’s tucked inside an old building they’ve turned into a mall. You could easily walk by the building and not even know there was a brewpub in there as advertising on the outside was scarce. That’s a shame, as there are probably people who would have a pint or two if they knew it was there. They don’t offer food, but bring food in from anywhere to enjoy with your beer. Lots of wood a few dartboards and the staple of the small brewpub – a stack of games. The bartender was friendly & knowledgeable and the tap list truly represents, as there were many “odd” offerings. But that’s the way I like it. Anyone can make a brown ale or stout, these guy had a peanut butter cup stout and an orange stout on tap, plus a barrel aged smoked porter… and two apple beers, several IPAs, plus a handful of other oddities. They had 14 beers on tap the day I visited, I couldn’t even try them all. Rarely does a brewpub exceed my expectations – but this one did. All the beers were fresh, most of them very good. I look forward to visiting here when in the area, and will even make it a focal point of the trip – it’s that good and fits my odd persona to a “T”.“

“In area for business and did a tour of Holland to Spring Lake to Grand Rapids. This is easy to find with good parking even during tourist gatherings. On first floor of old factory building downtown. Bar on left with hooks and mugs on wall with tables on the right. Very freindly staff with no written knowledge of full names, styles or ABV. Selection of beers is good and taste was complex and good. Snacks can be purchased on site or food can be carried in. Enjoyed the visit and will return when in Grand Rapids for RBSG.“

“Found out about this little known and new brewpub from a friend. So I and another friend, along with his wife and son jumped in the car and drove down to to check it out. Got there, and there is no sign, but there are big windows and it’s quite obvious when looking in that you are at the right place. We went in and it was much busier and crowded than I was expecting. This is of course both good and bad. Good, because that usually means the beer is good. Bad, because you may have to wait to order or get a table. We were able to order quite quickly, although we never did get a table, but we didn’t really mind. The bartenders were friendly smiling and helpful. The owner/brewmaster was bartending as well. I talked to him briefly about joining the Mug club and I did join it, but he was so busy he didn’t have time to chat. Also... a little more on the Mug Club. Odd Side Ales has a deal with the "Ceramic Cafe" just down the block. You go there to design your own mug for the wall. The beer was good. I took a sip of about everything they had on tap, and didn’t hate any of it. They do some different flavor combos. There was a lot of positive talk about a peanut butter stout, but unfortunately that had run out a day earlier. I found a nice brown that I had a couple glasses of. There is no real food menu except for snacks like chips, nuts, popcorn. They do, however, allow outside food in and there are a lot of good eats within a couple block radius. Hell you could probably have a pizza delivered if you wanted. All in all we had a great time and would recommend this brewpub if you are ever in Grand Haven MI. I think Odd Side Ales will do well. I just hope they will be able to keep up with their prosperity, because I had heard that they were keeping it a low key thing for now, but that is not really an option anymore. The cat’s out of the bag. “
