“A rather small, cramped room, with unmatched chairs and tables. It was quite busy and hard to find an open table. Several beers on tap. An Irish band was warming up when we were there, but hadn't started to play when we left. The decor was in keeping with the Irish theme of the place. There was a food truck just outside the front door, selling burritos and such. Probably a fairly comfortable little place to come and listen to some music while drinking a beer.“

“Small place in Buffalo just off the lake. A strong Irish flavor to the place with a small bar, a decent sized seating area and a small patio facing the lake. Service was good. 9 beers on tap plus one to go. No food available and prices were pretty good. A coo little brewery with some solid beers.“

“Stopped in on 3.1.2014. Cool little spot with a nice bar but oddly no bar stools - just a half dozen 4-seater tables. 3 beers on this day, available as a flight. Beers were just so-so. No food. No soda. Free parking. Update - now 5 beers on tap, and the 2 I had today were outstanding. $2-$3 five oz pours available.“

“Hayes’ Public House is really all about its atmosphere, as it attempts to create, and largely succeeds in producing, an Irish pub environment, which is a difficult task in a heavily windowed strip mall storefront next to a very Minnesotan lake in a very Minnesotan small city / exurb (Buffalo, MN). It’s a brewery and taproom, and it’s nice to see a taproom take on a specific theme instead of being a generic everything to everybody urban industrial/woody mixture that so many taprooms fall into (not that I don’t like that feel; I do; it’s just nice to see something a little different). Six beers on tap on the day I went (a Saturday afternoon), a peach-flavored ale (on nitro), an Irish stout (on nitro), an Irish red ale, a pale ale, an IPA, and a double IPA. I tried them all via a flight of 5 oz. pours, overpriced at $15. You can purchase pint or 12 oz. pours for $5 to $7 depending on the beer, or you can get 5 oz. pours at $2 or $3 a piece (which add up to the $15 for the full flight). Hence, you can mix and match and create any partial flight you want, but with no discount for getting multiple small pours or a full flight. None of the beers were outstanding in their own right, but the Irish red ale and Irish stout were good examples of boring styles. I appreciate that, at least when I went, the styles fit the theme of the taproom. I did like the décor and atmosphere. The taproom is an open rectangle with the bar in the back corner, facing the front of the taproom. Wood prevails, and all the wood is dark except for the light brown wood floor. The bar and tall back bar / shelving takes on a reddish hue lacking in the tables, chairs, benches, and barrels. Light green painted walls. I appreciated the three 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey barrels that sprinkled the taproom. Eight dark wood tables. A variety of wood chairs with various seat coverings. Fake fire place. A variety of Irish and beer-related hangings on the walls. Painted black ceiling. Much light entered through the heavily windowed walls and front door. The light doesn’t help the feel of an Irish pub, but it does help the beer glow and encourages a happy atmosphere. Traditional and some modern, upbeat, Irish music played and assisted the atmosphere. Small brewing equipment visible through windows and a doorway at the back of the taproom. The brewer/owner was on site but I did not talk to him. There was a good mix of presumably locals of various ages, from families with children to senior citizens. Only pretzels and chips were available for food, though a pasties food truck (appropriate for the theme) was outside. Friendly service from the bartenders. I’d like to see improvement in the quality of the beer, but, when reviewing places, either at this site or informally in general, I am a sucker for good atmosphere, and Hayes’ Public House does have that. I enjoyed my time there and probably would stop by occasionally if I lived in the area (and I tend to seek variety in bars and restaurants, so there are not a lot of places I visit more than once).“
