“Five minute walk from Frog Alley. Looks like an old gas station or automobile repair shop. Bar on one end with the brewhouse behind. Restaurant tables. Two garage doors on each side allows for a huge cross breeze. Small parking lot. Beers were very tasty and pretty creative, available in flights of four, and server knew them well. No food, just occasional food trucks (but none when I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon). Solid place.“

“Large modern industrial place, looks like a college bar for a big party school. Huge concrete terrace, no shade though. Multiple bars but just one in use. Lots of big screen TVs over the bar, some of which worked. Pizzeria next door has a window that opens into the taproom so you can order directly. Without asking, the barman directed me to the back of the place where you have a good view of the brewhouse on the floor below - with a massive canning line and row after row of fermenters - a big operation. Despite that, they were out of three of the seven beers on tap. Strange. Beers were OK, all safe styles including four New England styles and a kettle sour. Flights of four are possible. Pizza is mediocre, characterless and generic. Service at both places was above average, especially for a college sports bar sort of thing. Street parking is plentiful and a buck for two hours, free on the weekend. Kids welcome, pets only on the terrace. You make the call.“

“Large facility, very modern and industrial looking, great for large crowds. Relatively quiet on a Sunday afternoon. Big patio, downtown, pay parking. Food available.“

“Patty and I stopped in on way back from Lake Placid. Big new clean building with lots of room. About 8 beers or so on tap. The porter I had was decent. I brought home a couple crowlers I have not tried yet.“

“Patty and I stopped in for a drink on way back from Lake Placid. This must have been a grand place years ago. Good amount of great polished wood trimmings, stair cases and bar. Not many people there because of Covid. I had a nice beer with fries. 10 craft beers on tap.“

“I stopped in here last summer while driving out to western NY to meet up with the family. A little me time. I arrived later on a Friday night and the place was brisk with patrons on a warm summer day. Very industrial taproom feel with a few garage doors out front one of which was open. Bar off to the right of the space with the brewing operation behind it. I sat at the bar and enjoyed my flight until the giant jenga pieces startled themselves to the floor. They had 8 or so beers on tap I sampled a flight of four before I walked through town on a quest for food. Very well made brews, best I had that night. Service was great, I don't think they had any food. I'd go back if I were in Schenectady.“

“Alright place to go. The food is decent and the beer selection was decent enough. The place does get EXTREMELY crowded, especially in the summer, with a younger crowd.“

Centre Street Pub (Restaurant)

“Technically a restaurant, but most patrons treat it as a bar. Very popular among Union College students. Live music outdoors in warmer months (very loud). Nowhere to park.

Beer selection is okay. Mostly macro and crafty stuff though you’ll occasionally see some high end craft beer (they once had Founders KBS on tap there!). Glassware is all damn shaker glasses, though.

Food is generic pub fare: burgers, sandwiches and pizzas. Staff is friendly and fairly fast service, but aside from a couple bartenders, most don’t know much about beer. A find place to take newbs no ready for The Bier Abbey (a couple blocks up the road).“

Nico’s Pizzeria (Restaurant)

“Nico’s serves up some of the best Pizza around. I come by quite often and have been enjoying one of the only ROOFTOP patios around. The beer selection could be better (get rid of the 75% big three offerings), but I understand that most mindless drones like Blue Moon (I like craft beer :) ). Aside from the pizza, the upstairs menu is pretty decent. The Burgers have been a great addition. If the waitresses knew what was actually on tap, aside from Bud, Coors, etc.... that would help. The prices are about average.“

“Went on a Sunday afternoon. We were the only ones inside. Sandwiches are famous for being HUGE, which they are, even though they are basic coldcuts. Service was BEYOND courteous, as well as fast and attentive. I loved feeling like I was a kid at my grandparents house...but this time I got to drink beer. Beer selection was decent with a handful on tap, and about 30 bottles half domestic, half import. Most definitely will be coming back, and hopefully with some friends. Support locals.....“

“This used to be a go to place...but in recent years it has been dying off. The food is great, but the selection never changes. Beer list is basic....a couple local brews and a few bigger ones. Lunch time is probably the best.“

“Finally made it out there after having heard about this place forever. Problem is... I still don’t know what the fuss was about! Fine atmosphere, but the beer selection was mediocre, the prices were typical, will only return if I happen to be catching a show at Proctors.“

“Ok beer selection, but not superb. Really the ambience is a little too commercial Irish with no real soul. Not a bad place, not a great place to stop in, but will do in a pinch.“

Cafe NOLA (Restaurant)

“This is a place I’d really like to visit again and support. My buddy and I only stopped in for one, and the atmosphere was really nice. It was a Saturday evening with a light crowd, and a jazz trio playing downstairs. We were taken upstairs where we ate some fantastic crawfish nachos, as well as a couple of Louisiana beers. (This place states they are only going to sell beers from Louisiana, or possibly the Gulf Coast if they can get some.) SInce it was a slower night, the owner/head chef came to talk to us, and they are really trying to get a foothold in the Schenectady area. If people discover the place, I know they’ll return. Definitely go there for one or two, grab an appetizer or dinner, and enjoy the chilled-out vibe.“

“If you want to have a great sandwich and a great beer in a bar with an at home atmosphere, Slicks’ is the place to go. Selection is somewhat limited since there are only two tap lines, but one of them is always a great craft beer. Last time I was in I had a tasty pint of Smuttynose IPA. Great place to watch a ball game. Make sure you get a sandwich. Slicks has been serving them up the same way for over 30 years. You won’t forget it!“

“Beer selection could be better but they DO have Paulaner on tap - which is one of my favorite wheat beers. Their boneless buffalo chicken tenders are AMAZING, their Guiness burger is also really good, and their sweet potato fries are a nice side. The area is a little sketchy but they are working on fixing up the downtown so stay tuned.“

“Decent ambiance, nice old building. Typical american ’euro’ pub look. typical beer offerings, though the paulaner tasted quite nice. One lame house ale (it’s from MAtt, and they plain ol’ stink). Food was ok pub stuff that everyone enjoyed, but I didn’t like my sandwich, nor finish it. 12 taps, paulaner hefe is the best thing, the bottle were pure swill.“

“Pinhead Susans is a nice little place to go if you enjoy a crowd on a friday night. A favorite starter bar, where as most people go out to the more happening bars in Albany afterwards. The have their own beer, Pinhead Susan’s Specialty Ale, as soon as I find out the brewer I’ll write a review. Menu is great, irish fries are a must try. All in all, not a great beer bar, but a nice americanized irish bar.“
