Black Chicken (Restaurant)
113 E. NORTH MAIN STREET
“I was sitting at the bar at DreamChasers when the Black Chicken chef walked in and started chatting. This started a conversation with the DreamChasers staff, and long story short , I stopped by Black Chicken. It’s a bottle shop, it’s a bar, and it’s a restaurant. Oweer is a wine guy, but the beer selection was decent, both on draft and in bottles. But the highlight was the food. Very tasty and creative. They had panini, salads, pastas and small plates. Next time I will come here first and then go to DreamChasers, that would be a great combo.“

“I think this place was worth the drive from Charlotte. Right in the middle of the town next to the railroad tracks. Plenty of street parking, even though I overshot the brewery and parked a couple blocks away. Big open space, four overhead doors were open revealing a big tap room with a long bar. Very quiet on a Wednesday afternoon which just gave me a great opportunity to chat with staff members Aiden and Aaron (his first day on the job) and the owner. Beers were all very solid, with flights of four, and staff were generous with tasters. Just snacks on offer, but the Black Chicken next door has awesome food and a decent beer selection. Well worth the trip.“

“Brewery located in waxhaw nc. About 20 miles south of down town charlotte. Beers on tap are good, service is good. Can get extremely crowded on the weekends. Located in an old fire station. They have spots for 10-12 taps but they are not full as the place just opened. Beers are good, there is no food but plenty of places to eat at near by and bring take out to the bar. It is encouraged.

My only gripe is the cost of growlers. The growler itself is $15. It is stainless steel, so I am ok with that... but the fill prices are nuts. $20 for their normal line and $25 for one of the special ones. I don’t know if these prices are set to deter people from buying growlers or what. On opening day I was told thst growlers were $15. Then I was told they were $12. Then once they started selling them, they were $20-25. I have one, but I doubt I will be getting fills. I can get fills of expedition stout for the same or less. Total wine down the street fills for $8-17 depending on beer.

If you are in waxhaw, this is a must stop location, just be prepared to shell out over $40 for your first growler. Or $10 per beer to be able to take it home, haha.

Update - growler fill prices keep increasing. $25 for standard, $30 for the IPA. I guess they are really trying to discourage growler sales. :(

Update #2 - Growler prices have come down! $15-17 last I was in there. Much more reasonable now! They also do a special brew on most Monday’s. Good stuff, really glad to have a good local place for a change.“
