“About halfway between 422 and the turnpike is this hidden beer gem. If you're willing to drive another 20 minutes towards Cleveland other options exist. However right around Geauga Lake it offers a predictable selection of locals (Great Lakes, Hoppin' Frog, Fat Heads, etc) with regional and national brands. Like most Heinens locations you can pick up a limited selection as singles though if you ask they may be able to break a six pack. The main draw are the growler fills. The rotating taps usually contain three local breweries and one national brand. Examples include Alesmith Speedway Stout, Willoughby Peanut Butter Cup Porter, and various Cleveland Beer Week kegs. This location isn't worth going out of your way for like the one in downtown Chagrin Falls but if you are en route to Kent it can make a nice break for getting some cheap ticks.“

“(Visited 11/2013): This Heinen’s location is in the middle of Aurora in a shopping plaza on Chillicothe Road, a few miles off the turnpike. Parking is plentiful in the plaza.

The interior of the store is spacious, and the beer section is toward the left side. There are shelves as well as coolers. Breweries from Ohio like Great Lakes, Thirsty Dog, Buckeye and Ohio Brewing, along with other domestic craft brewers like Sixpoint, Victory, Alesmith and Stone. There is also a small growler station with 4 taps. On my visit the selection included a seasonal from Black Box, plus Corsendonk, Great Lakes and Magic Hat.

Service was pretty good for a grocery store, both at the growler station and at check out.

As far as food, they have packaged foods made in house for takeaway, as well as a cafe. The sandwich I had was good.

All in all, Heinen’s is along the same lines as a Whole Foods or Trader Joes, with a more local feel. The beer selection is solid, and I would definitely visit again.“

“Great selection, second only to their wine dept which gets preference. Too many macros in the cooler, they need more of the micros chilled. Usually a bunch of belgians there.“
