64 /100 9757 SE SUNNYSIDE RD Finally visited this one. In a strip mall right near the highway. Sort of dark and not too fancy which I like. Good service and basic McMenamins food. Had a decent small tap list. Certainly worth visiting especially if you have the passport. |
50 /100 9757 SE SUNNYSIDE RD First, I can’t believe this hasn’t been added to the database. It’s been here since before I moved to Portland. I guess it’s far enough off the beaten path that no one thought to visit it. But I’ve been here a number of times, having lived close to it during my bachelor years.
It’s a fairly unique McMenamins in that it’s basically set up to be part of a chain. Whereas the other locations usually have some special significance, this doesn’t. It’s more of the ’greatest’ hits; booths, beers, and foods all the same as the rest of the brewpubs, only without the ambience.
So, it’s probably not been visited because it’s not special. Go to Oregon City instead if you’re in the area.
But it’s still cheap and the burger is good. |
72 /100 11517 SE HIGHWAY 212 Visited on a Saturday afternoon.
Was kind of hard to find and had to turn back once when i missed the small sign.
Its in a light industrial type area tucked in behind .
When you walk in its just like a room with a ping pong table ..then you spot the door to the brewery on the right.
Its a wide open space with a small bar and a few tables and chairs. Barely separate from the working brewery.
They had a good selection when i went..regulars, seasonals and experimentals.
There were quite a few people sitting at the tables mostly older..then younger folks began to come in.
Person serving was very nice and friendly.
Prices are very good.
Will be back when in the area.

68 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 12605 S.E. 97TH AVENUE This is for Vancouver, WA location |
92 /100 McMenamins Sunnyside (Bar) 9757 S.E. SUNNYSIDE RD. Nice place, great food and excellent beer |
78 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 12605 S.E. 97TH AVENUE Drank here many times over the years. The Spaten and occasional special guest brew where pretty good. The food was good also I liked the schnitzel and pretzels. The service at times can be very good and at others it can be very dreadful and sloppy. If ever in town for their version of Oktoberfest they pull out the best German food you can find. It is worth the stop if you’re in the area. Be sure to get the Spaten Optimator it is the best and very fresh. This was the first new project for Gustavs after Horst Mager retired and decided to let his daughter expand and run the business. |
54 /100 McMenamins Sunnyside (Bar) 9757 S.E. SUNNYSIDE RD. Tucked into something like a strip mall - hard to see from the road. Took me a bit of driving around to get it in sight. Has the more common McMenamins beers. It’s not a big place. However, you can get served rather rapidly compared to the nearby Gustavs, which is way more upscale. Food is decent, but not memorable. |
50 /100 McCool’s Pub and Grill (Bar) 12066 SE SUNNYSIDE RD I’m not sure what the deal is, this place keeps getting added and deleted. It shouldn’t be here, sure they have a few taps, but its nothing you can’t find at most pubs here. All the standard NW pickings, served on beer lines that are way to cold. This place just doesn’t stand out in the Portland area. |
60 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 12605 S.E. 97TH AVENUE Drinks at the bar. Bar staff was a bit overworked covering orders from the dining areas. Standard hefes and 4 Spatens. Small selection of not-uncommon craft brews. Nice bar. |
72 /100 McCool’s Pub and Grill (Bar) 12066 SE SUNNYSIDE RD Best selection close to where I live. Always friendly staff. Good selection of craft brews. Always some local on tap as well as the more popular regional beers. Atmosphere and ambiance could be improved but it is always packed so I must be in the minority. |
80 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 12605 S.E. 97TH AVENUE I like Gustav’s, excellent food and a great German beer selection. While the beers are the same as you can find at any of the bottle shops, there’s nothing like having them on tap with dinner. |
60 /100 McMenamins Sunnyside (Bar) 9757 S.E. SUNNYSIDE RD. Ambience like a bar with some food, very dark. Food was decent but far from exciting: pizza, fish, burgers, etc. Service was decent. Beer selection was solid, I ended up trying the entire lineup that they had and the girl gave me a few free samples. Based on what others have said, this one is probably not worth searching out. |
78 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 12605 S.E. 97TH AVENUE Me and the wife visited this place a while ago, I still remember it as I was very impressed.
The atmosphere , was very "authentic" Bavarian , nice dark wood panelling and tables. Loved the large visible rottisserie.
There were many beers ,both German and Oregon micros available in the bar area and of course in the restaurant area.
This is the only place so far in Oregon were i found Spaten Premium Bock on tap, the only drawback in the beer was when i ordered a Warstiener Dunkel it was awful and flat, bad ..but happily they replaced it with another Spaten Bock.
The food in here is absolutlly excellent, but come hungry as the authentic german food will fill you up.
Great service too.

60 /100 McMenamins Sunnyside (Bar) 9757 S.E. SUNNYSIDE RD. Not one of my favorite mcmenamins but often close by. Smaller restaurant, not an old building like most mcmenamins, tucked in next to a fastfood place. Usual rude mcmenamins staff, average food, just a small location. |
