“Called in to see what was on offer to purchase beers to takeaway. Service was inappropriate about her employers, openly informed us that the couple are separated and the lady owner is running it herself. Took a selection of beers anyway to bring home and try. Long story short - have never tasted such horrific beers! All tasted bitter and off, no carbonation. We tested the pH and it was way off . All beers we tasted were tried by 6 people, and we were all in agreement - they all tasted revolting and were unable to be finished. Good money was wasted here in our purchase. Feeling sad for the couple who have obviously run this business into the ground, lost passion for craft beer, checking out their previous reviews, pleased we didn't go for food and service. We see its on the market for sale - so needs new, passionate owners with a new name, new reputation.“

“Part of a chain of restaurants. The beer is all keg , the beers available are mainly mainstream. Food was available on our visit and was reasonably priced and good quality.“

“Just went to the store downstairs to buy some bottles, there’s also a bar upstairs. In the store you have to ring a bell and someone will come downstairs.

The store has one fridge of beers (about 7 different ones and a good cider when I was there) and you can see the brewing equipment behind the counter. Since one fridge doesn’t fill a store the rest was filled with honey, fishing lures, German style beer glasses, and other souvenir style stuff. Super friendly service, though the guy didn’t seem to want to talk too much about the brewery. I didn’t really press either since we didn’t have much time. Beers were around $4.50 for a 33cl with is quite decent. Nice to visit when your in the area, it’s super central near the lake front.“

“Boutique et brasserie au rez-de-chaussée, le bar/resto est à l’étage. Je recommande si vous êtes dans les environs“

The Merchant of Taupo (Grocery Store)
114 SPA ROAD
“Stopped in here about a year ago and found a couple of beers I hadn't had before. However, on closer inspection later found that they were either well past their BB date or just not good anymore. So down the drain they both went. My (partial) bad for not checking closer on the label (one had no BB anyway) but be warned - not all beer is refrigerated and they leave some of the larger bottles out at room temperature under fluorescent light. So check before you buy!“

“Handy for stocking up on bottles when staying in Taupo. A small selection but there are a few surprises with some good bottles in the chiller. Attached is a shop also selling a range of foodstuff. Friendly service.“

Lakehouse (Restaurant)
10 ROBERTS STREET
“By day the Lakehouse is a relaxing spot on Roberts opposite the water. A good selection of craft beer from different Kiwi breweries as well as bottles and cans available in the fridge. Happy hour hits from 5-7pm and these guys also hold regulars home-brew comps which is great to see. Food options are plentiful with burgers, pizzas, steak etc. Good support for the local scene and a welcome addition for beer in Taupo.“

“This was a very odd place. Easy walking distance from the lakefront. Downstairs is a shop and the brewing equipment is visible in the back. Upstairs is the bar, which definitely has an Oktoberfest theme, right down to the German radio station streaming oom-pah-pah musik. The beers, strangely, are not German style, I’m not sure why. The two ciderson tap were very tasty, especially the special/spiced one. I would give the beers a miss.“
