“Located in a strip mall in Westerly, this shop is laid out according to style, with an emphasis on wine. Beer is in coolers and several shelving units. Some single selection, but not comprehensive. Selection in not huge, but interesting.“

“84 Ale Works is Westerly's premiere restaurant and brewery, located in bustling downtown, walking distance from Wilcox Park. In 2018, to capitalize on the growing excitement in the beer industry, on-site brewing was added, 6-8 of the 24 taps now pore there own brews great food and staff“

“This place is totally over rated. The selection isn't great and it was crowded with frat boys. Most of the tap list is Founders, Wicked Weed (AB InBev0, Grey Sail, Allagash, Two Roads- Blah! The only food is pretzels!“

“Cool modern spot in central Westerly. Pretty large taplist but with nothing overly interesting. Flights available, priced by the beer, so good for the ticker. Friendly but not really knowledgeable staff. Some nice food options too, including vegetarian and vegan options. Worth a stop if passing through.“

“Quick stop on Monday day. Pretzel list was versatile and impressive. Lots of interesting beers on tap but IMO they could have more from Rhode Island. Flights of four available for beer tickers.“

“After visiting and enjoying their location in Providence, this place is a bit of a let down. It's located in downtown with parking available in a lot closeby. Solid taplist. Ambience nothing special. The bartender I had was a bit of a dick. The location in Providence is far superior for some reason.“

“The taproom is located in an old mansion next to The brewery which used to be a pasta factory. You can't make this stuff up. They have a massive beer garden as well as seating inside. They put the taproom in the living room which gives you a great vantage point of their hand painted walls from a century ago. It's a great place for introverts who just want to hang out in comfortable place and drink craft beer sitting in comfy chairs. Their beer ranged from solid to a damn good Double IPA. They also have some amazing guest taps.“

“Really enjoyed visiting this place. Very reminiscent of some Portland, OR brewpubs I remember going to back in the day located in houses. There was a guy in the back yard cooking pizzas out of a portable brick oven (he had his own business - not part of Grey Sail) which were really good. The best though is the fresh Captain's Daughter on tap. So good. Will be back next time in the area.“

“Finally! A place in New England that I don’t have to complain about parking! Hell yeah! Every time I’ve been here, pretty much always had good service. Pretty clean, probably one of your best bets while in Westerly, RI for bottles/cans.“

“Nice clean restaurant with pretty good service as they seemed to be "real" with you and not that "fake" happy attitude you sometimes see in a fair amount of places. Food was damn good! Baked macaroni and cheese skillet with a Captain’s Daughter (GS), well, what’s not to like.“

“Was fairly impressed with the selection here, though living in New England, a lot is the same where I currently live, other than the Grey Sail. Pretty clean little place.“

“This is a seasonal place that serves "some" good beers. Gets loud, though supposed to be family oriented, it’s attached to the beach park. Service can be iffy at times. But you’re probably not going to find much else for beer here.“

“Visited on a saturday afternoon. They have a small dedicated parking lot, but I could see it being too small when they are busy. They have two facilities on the same parking lot. One for growlers only, and the other is more of a tasting room. The tasting room is located inside of a house that they converted. On my visit, about half of the seating was taken. They have a couple different rooms of the house dedicated to seating. The bar area is nice, and standing only. They had about of their beers on tap, plus some more from other breweries. They allow flights, which is a major plus in my book. Also, the diversity and quality of their beers is awesome. Great atmosphere to this place. I would highly recommend visiting if in RI or even CT. It’s literally right across the state line. We had to cross it to get here from RI.“

“Nice and clean place. Very small parking lot though. I can’t remember the gentleman’s name who helped me but he was very nice and knowledgable. They have a bunch of empty beer bottles on top of the shelving with the taps. I was surprised to see them showing off other breweries beers, most of which are either retired or on the rare side. Kudos to them for doing that. To me it shows that they are about having some good beers with good company and not just all about the money, which I definitely respect. There were 8 tap handles, but unfortunately they didn’t have something "special" or harder to find beers that a lot of breweries tend to have. You know, something that is usually only found at the brewery. Overall it was a nice place to check out. If I didn’t have my kid with me I would love to have hung out for a little bit longer.“

“Took a ride to Grey Sail from NJ recently as I needed a RateBeer rating for Rhode Island (last state I needed in the northeast). Westerly is the closest brewery I could find...and as it turns out...an excellent choice as both Westerly and nearby Watch Hill are great places to visit. The brewery itself is a nice looking building from the outside (says: "Westerly Macaroni Mfg Co" on the building)...but the inside is very tight and not that special. The brewery equipment takes up most of the space and it looks like they needed a shoehorn to get it all in...lol! The bar and standing area are very small...with few places to sit. You can however see the brewery when you head to the facilities...as that’s where the bathrooms are. As for the beers...they had 8 when I visited plus a 9th in a gravity keg...I especially enjoyed the Poor Judgment IPA, the Great Ketch IPL, and the Captain’s Daughter Double IPA. There were also a porter, stout, Belgium wit, a cream ale, and an extra pale ale. The deal here is extremely good...$5 gets you 5 samples "and" a pint logo glass to keep...the down side...and this is a Rhode Island thing...not a Grey Sail thing...you can’t get more than 5 samples "and" no pints are sold...so your only other choice after drinking your 5 samples is to buy a growler or two and leave (which I guess explains how they can work with such a small taproom...not much reason to stay around long). I’m told they want to build a brewpub next door which will allow them to serve food and pints there (doesn’t sound very business friendly in Rhode Island...at least not for breweries). I recommend a visit here...not far at all from I95.“

“Been here a couple of times. Wide range of taps with over half of them rotating regularly. Nice interior. The pretzels and pretzel sandwiches are all tasty, which is good because that’s about all there is to eat. The service is friendly but slow. All told, one of the best places to hit in the eastern CT/western RI region.“

“The pretzels were delicious! We took the trip down from the City and tried this place and Bridge. We found the draft list here to be a little underwhelming to be honest. The "beer available" section looks phenomenal right now so maybe we got them on an off week., we will be back.“

“Melissa and staff are absolutely awesome, serving fresh beer and good company. Several beers on tap and a new cask setup were ready for us along with two bottled rarities. This was a great stop and they are ready to talk beer and share one with you.“

“You know its gonna be a good place when there’s a gravity cask on the bar. Long narrow restaurant with a long bar. Jeff the barman was very friendly and knowledgeable, with good recommendations. Nice variety of beers from near and far, available as flights. The pretzel sandwiches were incredibly tasty and creative. Plenty of free two hour street parking right out front.“

“This is in a strip mall, so there’s plenty of parking. Long and narrow, pretty well organized. Staff is helpful, and took me all over the store to find some meads, of which they did not have a good selection. Decent cider selection, though, and plenty of decent beers.“

“A nice beer selection with some wines and spirits. There are cold singles, packaged beers and a few shelves of singles, largely regional beers. A worthy stop very close to Grey Sail and Cottrell.“

“This was definitely worth the short drive from Providence. The tasting room is in the front, and looks into the brewery which is one level down. Michelle and Dan were very friendly and knowledgable, and served from really tasty beers. Great stop.“

“A nice, small bar located in historic Westerly. The staff are quite friendly and prompt. The pretzel buns make for very tasty sandwiches and the beer selection is quality local and regional beers. This is a great place to grab a refreshing beer and lunch while you wait on nearby Grey Sail to open.“

“This place was recommended by the Grey Sail guys. Long narrow sprawling place. The macro beers are plentiful and there is a small but solid craft beer selection. Prices were good and the people were exceptionally friendly. The parking situation was a bit tricky.“

“Small production brewery with a bright, open tasting room in the front. Nice people and nice beer. 4 options on tap. All were solid. Enough parking. Pints are available but no off premise sales. Overall a very nice stop.“

“Really an odd setup. I assume they are trying to protect themselves from theft but, at least in my case, they protected themselves from a sale. One shelf of bottles that you need to ask to purchase and some cold six packs in the coolers. Plenty of signs telling you to ask for other beers they don’t display but when I’m in a new area I want to browse the local beers I can’t get. If I don’t know what they have how can I ask for them? Ugh. Oh well. Disappointing. Walked out without buying anything.“

“This is an odd store, with singles of a beer on the shelf and then you have to ask for what you want, except for a number of sixers in the coolers. They had pretty things and the like, but nothing that boggled my mind. If this is the only place you have time to hit, you’ll find something to drink.“

“Great place run by some terrific young professionals. Love the fact that most beers are New England regional. The "Gnarly Barley" attracts a large and diverse crowd but has a mostly young and hip vibe. There’s a strong and quite large draught list, however, it feels like they try to hard to offer unique offerings. Maybe I’m too old school, but I felt like there were too many beers with fruit additives and too many uber strong IPAs and doppel bocks. The food is delicious, home made, but somewhat limited. I will be back!“

“Best stop in Westerly, I believe. The selection of six-packs and twelve-packs is diverse and well-priced, but the singles selection is a little slim. There’s a good range of big beers in bombers, but not many beers pulled out of six packs, which was a bummer to me, because I wanted to snag a couple new Harpoons, but I wasn’t paying 10.99 for the four pack. The staff was as helpful as they could be though, grabbing some cold beers from the back for me.“

“Finally, a beer bar with people who know what they are talking about! This family owned establishment is in the heart of Westerly’s shopping and dining district. They have almost 40 taps that mainly consist of US micros, but from the East and West Coast. Ambiance is really nice, wide open with plenty of space to mingle if you can’t get a seat at their enormous bar. They also have a patio and downstairs area with fooseball tables. The owners are always there and happy to answer questions and make recommendations. Instead of pitchers they have mini-barrels with spouts on them for your table. Prices are really competitive. The only reason I gave them a lower food rating was because they only serve home made pretzels, but they are fantastic. Highly recommended.“

“Nice to see another very solid beer bar open in Rhode Island. They have a good diverse, selection of craft brews, both regional and international. Service was prompt and quick. Offer pretzels as food. Beer was served at the proper temp and in appropriate glassware (love the tulip glass!). They also offer 2oz sample pours of all their beers, which I appreciate. The ambiance is solid. Definitely the beer spot to hit in Westerly.“

“Mostly a wine/hard liquor store, but has a decent selection of NE beers, a few imports, and even a few hard to find items. They allow breaking sixes, which is always a plus in my book.“
