1F of Aeon Mall Okayama. You can walk here by the underground mall from the Shinkansen side of the station. There is an OK selection of beer--you can get the whole Doppo range in the supermarket section. Great sake selection, though, and perfect setup for tasting. About 30 bottles in the tasting machine. You get a card at the counter, put in ¥1000 at a time, and you can sample all the sakes. Price is ¥100-¥300 per 40 ml sample, which is the perfect amount for a quick tick. After getting some Doppo on tap on 4F, stop down here to tick the local sakes. There are some very nice ones and the price works out amazingly fairly--you basically pay retail price for the amount you get.“ |

The unfiltered Pilsner was stellar. You can walk all the way under ground from the station. Good stop when you are in town. You can get all kinds of foods in the surrounding area as well. The weisswurst I got here was tiny and not worth it. Tasted good though. They also sell their sakes to go.“ |

Pretty bloody cool! 1000 yen tasting set (3 pretty generous pours in plastic cups), you can choose the beers yourself but the 9PM Mall closing time means this is a place for Day Drinking or popping in after you check into your hotel. I second the downstairs supermarket for to go Doppo (I found their 10th Anniversary Beer there). All in all a nice little place to get some easy ticks without breaking the bank.“ |

Atmosphere is a typical of a foodcourt, surrounded by families and teens, but great prices (275ml/350, 400ml/500, 650ml/750). Also a tasting set of three for 1,000. Beer isn’t bad, the weizen has a typical banana to it, schwarz a tad sweet. Also unfiltered pils, only sold there or the brewery. They make an imperial IPA but it wasn’t on tap at the time. Bottles on sale as well. In addition, the supermarket on the first floor of the mall has a range of Doppo plus other imports. FYI: the draft prices are half what you pay at the brewery restaurant. Then again there you get proper glassware.“ |
