“Same as the other reviewers. Still no good reason to go here if you're looking for beer (decent grocery store though).“

“Would put this in Woodinville, not Redmond, but whatevs. Anyways, this is part of the long strip of wineries in the outskirts of Woodinville. And the mead is generally solid. One of them (the Solas) is fantastic. Sometimes they fall flat. Good addition to the area.“

“In an office park a bit north of downtown Redmond. Nice brewery, two bars. Beer is generally hop-focused (as so many around here), well done but no knockouts in my preferred styles. Good if you're in the area (i live nearby so I will be back) but not worth going out of your way for.“

“Kind of a classic brewery in the Seattle area. Generally (as is common in Seattle) specialize in hoppy beers, although their African Amber is a staple and they do surprisingly good BA stuff. Gotta stop in here at least once--won't be something you tell your grandkids about or anything but they do quality beer for a good price and, again, it's a classic.“

“I mean it's a BJ's Brewhouse. BJ's : craft beer :: Famous Dave's : BBQ. Not bad, but won't blow your socks off. If you want cromulent beer, a good spot though, and plenty of space.“

“You can drink pints on site now! I feel like it's important to get a recent place rating on the books for Mac and Jacks. It seems to have slightly changed in the last few. We stopped in after Postdoc, due mostly to convenience, and also it's a place that I feel like everyone needs to check in to at least once. They still operate the taproom in a room about the size of an average bedroom. There is a small production area that you can stand out on the side, but in the winter, the service window was closed up. About 10 beers on tap, all available for free sampling, pints (both to plastic cups), and growler fills. Other than a couple standing tables, the rest of the room is dedicated to Mac and Jacks swag. Anything you can really think of. I'm sure they had a Mac and Jacks mouse pad in there. Are mouse pads still a thing? Anyway, the beers were all pretty good. Good value. Kinda hard to give anything less than a perfect score on value for a place that gives you their beers to try for free. Service was very friendly. With pints now available, as well as some experimental brews on tap, I feel like this is becoming a really good stop when doing the Redmond area crawl.“

“New name for the Growler USA Redmond location, but more or less the same exact place when it comes to beer. The food menu seems to have changed a little. I stopped in yesterday to check out the new place. Bright, decent sized restaurant on the bottom floor of a large living space. I suppose this would be a decent place to have in the basement of my living situation. Between beer, wine, cider, kombucha, and other things I might not even know about, they have 100 taps. Even with a selection that large, it seems to be a bunch of uninspired offerings. A beer lover like myself with any time at all behind the hobby has probably tried all the beers they have available. They have quite a selection, but don't offer any sort of flight option, which is annoying to me. If you don't live upstairs, and have to drive to a place like this, I can only try 1 or 2% of the beers you offer on my trip. Annoying to me, but probably not all that unusual. Service was good overall. Probably a little too attentive though. We were sitting at the bar, and the staff was just lingering a foot away behind the bar, and seemed like they were listening in on our conversations. Awkward, and a bit frustrating. The food menu is limited, but looks pretty good. For the average person, this is probably a fun stop, with what appears to be a massive selection, but if you are looking to tick some beers, this probably isn't a place to stop in. I'll likely come back someday. They do live music and trivia events. A couple pints and an event like that seems like a good time here.“

“A cool place to stop, and a must stop if you are hopping the Redmond breweries. Next to Mac and Jacks, so swing over here if you want to get a pint of something. This is a place that seems to improve with every visit. Wide variety of beers on tap, including cask and guest cider. Frequent events here keep me coming back. Dog and kid friendly. They open up an outdoor area if the crowd is large enough or if the weather is nice. Food truck is usually out front, but typically the same one every time. Overall good beer, nice service. Cool place, and if you want to be the one millionth person to ask, ask them how they got their name.“

“Visited in the hour before closing time, got a sampler of everything they had and shared it. Quite cheap for what it was. Some really good beers among the selection, and there was a great local bar vibe (once you got inside). Would make for an excellent neighborhood place, if only it were in my neighborhood.“

“Odd location in an industrial park in Redmond, with signs that are nearly a death threat if you park your car in another business’s space. Very nice decor inside with a dozen or so taps. 8 or so of their regular year round beers, and 4 or so seasonal, or what they call rare birds. Good beer, and I can’t complain to much about location, because it’s not really out of the way and is next door to one brewery, and walking reasonable walking distance to a couple others. Love their regular release events they hold throughout the year. I’ll keep going back.“

“Not really a taproom, just a garage-like area where you can sample their draught beers, and a little shop to fill your growlers and purchase bottles to go. You can sample the beer for free, which is sort of run-of-the-mill -- competently brewed but nothing outstanding. Very friendly service. Not really worth coming to, but if you’re at Postdoc and want a few more ticks, it’s 1 block away.“

“Small, modern place in an industrial park, 1 block from Mac and Jack’s. I went on a Sunday early afternoon and it was completely dead. 10 or so beers on tap plus a couple of casks. Beers aren’t very good quality, but let’s hope this improves. Service was friendly and astute. Hopefully this place improves the beer quality, as it’s a great little place.“

“Visited the Sunday 3pm tour. Use the website to find this old-school, out of the way, in an industrial complex, brewery. Only 5 of us on tour, so more intimate than usual. You get a free shaker glass, and 4 free samples. The brewery now has "Employee Beer" only available for sale on premise. Kegs and growlers for sale in small tasting room. The tour was good and the tour guide did not talk down to the audience and did not treat it as a frat bro drink-a-thon tour. A brewery-only bottle for sale as well this time around. Mac and Jack’s does a few things you usually don’t find in other breweries. Mac and Jack’s isn’t the darling of the new generation of craft beer drinkers but it holds an important role in the expansion of craft beer. Currently, its the largest draft-only distribution brewery in on the North American continent. For all these reasons I think its worthy of locals to visit even if you are tired of seeing African Amber everywhere.

A must visit for locals, especially for brewery-only ticks and to learn about some of the brewery’s methods.
For out of towners, only if you want some ticks and its not a traffic filled day.“

“Cool unsuspecting place in an industrial park with a pretty expansive interior that has two beers and a nice outdoor patio. They have offer flights (6 3 oz. beers), with 10 house beers on tap that range in quality. Rarities were more interesting than the standard lineup. Service is very friendly and helpful. and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely worth a stop in Redmond.“

“Sweet looking brewery taproom. Well thought out beers on offer, and apparent the brewers are switched on. Well brewed and nice to see barrel variants. Speaking of which, loved the windows to the barrel room...always a nice touch. Darkly lit in the late night, and I dug the basement feel. Really cool place in what seems to be an unlikely location.“

“These guys do great things for the beer world without a doubt. They focus on a rock-solid business model: produce flagship beers that anyone can enjoy, and don’t spend a lot of time on side projects. As a result, you get a fairly bare-bones experience here. There are tanks and kettles, and there are faucets and growlers. There are grains, yeasts, and hops somewhere as well, but those are marked employees only. You come in, you get your growler filled to go, maybe you shoot the breeze a little, then you go drink your beer. This place offers a nice lineup of beers. They actually offer the current sales leader in Western Washington among craft beers, I think--the African Amber. Redhook and Widmer and a few other mid-major craft breweries challenge it pretty well, but the African is a king among kegs of craft beer in this town. You see it at places where it’s the only non-industrial beer, that stately lion on the tap handle announcing that there’s at least one thing on tap with a grain bill that’s all barley. You see it at restaurants, sports bars, sometimes even at higher-end places that are crazy for beer. You occasionally get a stale keg of the African because it can sit so long at places that don’t move much craft beer, so it has a bit of a middling reputation with a few people--some people think it’s too sweet, because by the time they get to a place with a keg of it, the hops have faded, and the crispness and refreshment have gone. But African is a very drinkable beer, and the Serengeti Wheat is solid as well. They also serve a decent porter and IPA, and they occasionally make an interesting special batch of this or that. But most of all they serve beers that anyone can enjoy, and more than once their beers have been compared to Kind of Blue by Miles Davis--something both musicians and a large percentage of the public alike can really get into. Very well-crafted, but also very accessible.“

“(Visited 04/2012): Black Raven is located on the north side of Redmond, east of Seattle off the 405 on 95th. The building has a private parking lot.

The interior has some high table seating at the entrance, and a small bar area in the back. Nice brown and beige color scheme with tasteful lighting. There is a chalkboard behind the bar that lists what beers are available.

As for the beer, Black Raven has 6 house beers and offers a sampler. On our visit this included a Stout, Porter, IPA, Kristallweizen, APA and 25th Anniversary Extra Sensory Peppercorn (ESP). All of the beers are decent.

Service at Black Raven is pretty good. The bartender was familiar with the beers and friendly.

Black Raven does not offer food but they regularly have a food truck in the parking lot, and you are able to order in from several local menus.

All in all this is a nice brewpub to visit on the outskirts of Seattle.“

“The business park location is a bit odd for a brewpub but it’s definitely worth a visit when in Redmond. The interior is very classy with lots of nooks and crannies to spend the afternoon sipping the brewery’s many quality beers. If only they’d open a taproom in Seattle...“

“They wear it well. They start outside with the multiple flags of the UK nations, some shingle siding on the eave, a sandwich board with a Union Jack. They’re right next door to the British Pantry; in fact, they share a common door. It’s a little expatriate outpost happening here. You walk in and it feels more or less like a lot of bars you’ve been to, but the touches give it that UK feel. The wingback chairs aren’t a common theme for a lot of places, and the louvered shutters on the window give it a cave-like feel that’s appropriate. There are highboys and plenty of tables. There’s a full bar and lots of dark wood. Put it all together and you feel like, British or not, you’re in a place that’s true to itself, all of a piece, and ready to welcome you for a friendly pint and some homey cooking. And some footie on the tellie, if anything’s live at the moment. They do show American sports too. No shortage of flat screen here. Service is friendly, and they make an effort at offering a good mix of imported UK beers and domestic offerings in sessionable styles not unfamiliar to the drinking Briton. The menu is what sets this place’s feet firmly in Greenwich Mean Time, though. Pasties, chips, fish, a stilton burger, beef and kidney pie. All worth a bite for sure. All reasonably priced. Even more reasonable at happy hour. I will absolutely be back for more.“

“It’s got a cult following so it must be good! Black Raven brewing is tucked away in a nondescript part of Redmond in a nondescript office park near the outskirts of town. Yeah. But dude, when you finally do park and get out of your car and tromple into what would seem like the hidden HQ of a video porn production studio..maybe that’s where they shot Keyboard Facials 4? .well, it’s pretty freakin awesome. Low lighting, tall seating, NO FOOD, and friendly service brings me back again and again. On busy days they’ll open the secondary bar and room and people will flood into it as if there were free pretzels and peanuts in the shell....oh wait a second, there IS FREE PEANUTS AND PRETZELS. 1/2 gallon growler fills are fairly inexpensive and the BR’s full time tap list is farily inclusive. Sure there’s a few flat screen tvs hung up in the main tasting area and the seating can be downright comfy, but what’s really obscenely friendly about the place is that sometimes on weekends the tasting room will open more doors to the back and you can mingle around the fermenting tanks and brew stuff. They’ve also got a few clapped out board games and the local brewing newspaper hangin about as well. They’ve strategically placed menus for a slightly above average pizza place (that delivers) on the tables. Their main lineup of beers is solid however some of their seasonals can be hit or miss.“

“Now being a beer geek I have had a few of there beers but not the whole list. So I pulled up to the bar got out my note book and ordered the sample tray. This place was awesome great service which was also very knowledgeable about the product. It was hard the tasters where so good which one do you get as a pint? Oh be ready when you arrive at any time this place is packed. The beers where so damn tasty I was so glad I made it here and found a spot to sit. No food here but hey do have a pizza place on the ready for delivery and a few snacks from peanuts to pretzels. Black Raven is a must for any beer geek. “Mac & Jacks Brewing Company. Production only facility with a small tasting/retail was not sure what I was going to find. Why has no one made fresh brewed cologne sure baffles me? I say this as I just passed a huge vat of malted grains as they vent off steam and wonderful aroma. I was not the only one standing there wafting at the aroma. Once inside the small sampling room you where greeted by a young man asking what would you like to try. Hell I can’t hurt the kid’s feelings so I tried them all. Yes, I have lived here in the Pac NW for a few years so yes Mac & Jacks African amber is like a staple but when free you taste. They have lots of tee shirts growlers and posters to buy. You can get your growler filled or buy a new one when there.“

“Hidden in the prefabricated distopia of office-park Redmond is a lovely little brew pub. The interior is tastefully done, so that the sprawling miles of industrial park disappear and the pub itself takes over. Friendly servers have plenty of time (and beer knowledge) to discuss the lineup, friendly locals plainly enjoy being part of a local craft beer resurgence (pretty much the polar opposite of the scenester hell that Brouwers has become).

Ten taps, solid lineup of beers. Pizza from the Flying Saucer is inexpensive, tasty, and arrives prompty (~30 minutes). Food trucks most nights. It’s a pain getting over there from Seattle proper, but it’s worth it -- I’ll be back.“

“A true neighborhood pub. Comfortable and inviting, the tap list is fairly short however full of Imports and dotted with a few locals. They’ve got setanta on the television so that means AFL, Rugby, Cricket, and Football (soccer) all the time, 24-7. You can find a few local taps as well as a very good selection of English beer and select bottles. You could find Old Speckled Hen, Fuller’s ESB, London Porter, and a rotating such as Bluebird Bitter amongst others. The food is quite excellent and I highly recommend the basket of fresh potato chips and the fish and chips are first rate. Friday and Saturday they have big slabs of prime rib at an affordable cost. Well worth a visit.“

“Probably the best Eastside pub for serious beer lovers. Excellent ales. I’ve had their Trickster IPA, Tamerlane Porter, Second Sight strong Scotch ale, and their Belgian tripel. Had one guest beer last time - Diamond Knot HO-HO. Bartenders and guests at the bar are quite knowledgeable with lots of helpful WABL members. Location is a bit unexpected in an office park just off Willows Road, but it’s akin to some of the great winery tasting rooms up on the hill above Woodinville. No food in house, but they have menus and delivery from next-door pizza place. Nice contemporary decor and comfortable environs. Place has been full every time I’ve been there, but always managed to find a seat quickly. BTW, you can usually get their beer at Redmond’s British Pantry/ Three Lions Pub or Cafe Veloce if you want a different food theme.“

“Like a lot of valleys on the east side of Puget Sound, Redmond Valley used to be some of the most fertile farmland in the world. Now it’s some of the most fertile real estate around for tilt-up office sprawl and warehouse parks. BRB occupies one of the warehouse parks. You zizag through generic streets and go past dozens of identical off-white walls and gray roll-up doors until you see the bird over the door. Inside, though, they’ve made a great effort to overcome the aesthetic limitations of the locale. Clean, well-lit, comfortable, spacious. You walk in and immediately see the bar; tables spread to your right and farther back. Definitely a working production facility, but definitely a hospitable patrons area as well. The locals have certainly embraced it--getting an after-work drink means you need a little luck finding a parking place and an open seat. The furniture is all nice, clearly purchased all at once and with some thought in mind--rough-hewn-looking laquered tables, cool stools. Service is friendly, lines are in great shape, they pour a couple guest taps, there’s a pizza place next door with free delivery, and, every Wednesday, they tap a cask. You sort of feel like the burbs are progressively enveloping you on the drive here, but, once you arrive, there’s everything you need in place to enjoy a few neighborly pints.“

“This place is close enough to my work that I can fill a growler and get it in my car in less than 10 minutes. Looks like nothing on the outside and is located in a fairly bland industrial setting, but the inside has a nice ambiance and a good crowd of people. They’ve done well with making the interior warm and comfortable, and I like being able to see the working brewery in the back. The space isn’t huge and it can get pretty crowded during peak times. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The brews are very top notch. I’ve yet to be disappointed by them. There’s no food served, but you can bring food or get pretty good pizza delivered from Flying Saucer Pizza.“

“Can’t believe this place wasn’t in the RateBeer database already. Three Lions is a very authentic English pub, complete with a couple different soccer games on the telly’s at any time. It’s actually three different contiguous venues in one building - Three Lions Pub, Neville’s Restaurant, and British Pantry Deli and Bakery. Great English pub food selection with excellent fish and chips. My favorite is the steak and kidney pie. Authentic Ploughman’s lunch, wonderful toffee pudding with rich custard sauce, and mini pies (strawberry-rhubarb tonight). Ten or so draft beer selections are biased toward the English side, and you can get Old Speckled Hen (20 oz.) anytime. Guest (a.k.a. American) beers included Dogfish 90 when I was there last. Another 20 bottles with some good Belgians along with expected English beers. Good selection of single malt Scotch, not much in the way of wine. Bartenders were very knowledgeable; servers ran the gamut from great English ladies to local college students. This is a cute little British enclave in downtown Redmond. You can walk across the street to the excellent Tropea if you need great Italian food and wine. Highly recommended.“
