72 /100 92 TACHIKABE, NOTO-CHO Great brewpub located on a hill at the end of a small winding road in a remote area of the (already remote) Noto Peninsula. Pleasant dining area, wood-paneled, with large windows giving views of the large manicured sloping lawn and the blue Sea of Japan far below. Seating for maybe 50-60, and an outdoor patio area. Not crowded on Monday afternoon in early August. Has more the feel of a restaurant than a brewpub. Service was efficient, if not overly friendly. Five beers were on tap: pils, weizen, dark lager, deep-sea water amber ale, and light aroma ale. These are absolutely the best Czech-style brews in Japan. Reasonable prices: 360ml for ¥406, 500ml for ¥750, and 1.8 liter pitcher for ¥2,500. A la carte menu of steak, sausages, chicken, and salads. Lunch menu features Indian-themed dishes (recommendation: Nan and kebab plate). The brewer’s pils and weizen are both things of wonder. |
70 /100 92 TACHIKABE, NOTO-CHO Brewpub in just about the most beautiful location imaginable. On top of a small cliff overlooking a secluded beach on the Sea of Japan. Great patio, lovely wood finish inside. 4 beers brewed by their Czech brewmaster are quite good examples of their styles. One of the hardest brewpubs in Japan to get to, though. |
