“It's a Woodman's. Gargantuan grocery store with a gargantuan liquor section. Two BYO sections. A regular one 6/$9 and this is one of the few locations that has a 10/$11 section as well (mostly out of date... youv'e been warned). The BYO 10 section was haphazardly organized which led to a nice scavenger hunt. Good prices, epic # of beers. In general, if you see a Woodman's, stop.“

“Loved this place. Near Rustic Road. Easy street parking. Small and narrow. Comfortable with some old-school games and some books. Couches and whatnot. Hand-designed coasters. Eclectic mix of music playing. Fun vibe. Bartender very helpful and friendly. Some snacks available. Flight of 9 or so for $15. They only had 7-ish on tap but gave us additional samples of our favorites once we tried them all. Beers were all very well done with the exception of one and were a range of styles (two sours, NEIPA, brut IPA, belgian strong golden, wit, hefe, maybe one or two more). This was easily my favorite stop in Kenosha.“

“Downtown Kenosha. Found parking easy. Easy walking distance to Public Craft. Long and narrow, long bar with tables. A bunch of beers on tap. We did a flight of 8 which was reasonably priced. Bartenders friendly and helpful. Many styles available. Some well executed, particularly the German styles, and some were just straight up weird. Overall worth a stop.“

“Small place in a garage that they seemed to build for themselves. Would be cozy but the garage doors were open. Small bar and some tables. Plenty of parking. The place was filled with the soft soothing tones of the interstate basically across the street. This seems to be the Kenosha Red Light district if that's your thing... strip club, adult video store, Harley Davidson store ;). Bartender was friendly and helpful. Four beers on tap, all well executed... pastry stout, kettle sour, two hazy hoppy things. Flights available. Some okay pizza available. Overall a nice stop especially with its proximity to the interstate. Prices okay.“

“They moved to new location near the old in Kenosha proper, street parking and long narrow brick building, a little dark inside on a bright day. Staff was nice, beers were average. Selection was lacking in any dark beers.“

“Mars Cheese Castle is just off I-94 at the Kenosha exit, but outside of town, which is closer to the lake. It's one of the last exits on your way out of Wisconsin if you're heading south, so it's a popular tourist spot to grab some cheese and booze before they head back to Illinois or wherever. It's also the farthest place south to buy New Glarus, so they're always stocked with huge amounts of NG to sell to FIB dips who will pay higher prices. And boy, do they ever jack up the prices. The BP across the highway is in on the action, too; these places have the highest New Glarus prices I've ever seen, like $18.49 for a 750 ml fruit beer, or a few extra bucks on every 6-pack. Hoppin' Frog bombers, which I can buy back home, were about double the Ohio price; $20-$34 each. Just insane. The place itself is kitschy fun, with the castle theme everywhere. We didn't visit the pub or restaurant but bought some cheese. Some of the items in the store are reasonable, just not the beer.“

“Nice almost hippy vibe, cool music, shelves of books, creative art coasters, long brick walls in older downtown Kenosha. We tired 2 samples and bought a bomber to go. I liked the dry stout very much. Our bartender was knowledgeable, she talked about what was on tap. I would visit again when in the area.“

“Smaller garage brewery right off highway, next to Uncle mike’s pub. Owner brewer Kevin was informative and nice. they ran out of the porter I wanted to try, but did have 2 others. Update: they added more beers and added a beer garden on the their lawn. Friendly staff.“

“Its a garage-like space right off the highway in Kenosha, WI, the 3rd brewery in the city so far. This one tends to make styles that I don’t really care for. Lots of red ales and heavier-bodied lighter ales. They even had an imperial gingerbread beer on in the spring. I think if they focus on stylistically brewing what will sell and what is season appropriate this place could be decent. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot with their choice of beer styles, it isn’t going to get people in the door. I have heard form multiple sources that the beer was bad when they opened and has gradually gotten better. They need crisper, cleaner beers.“

“This is a narrow place in downtown kenosha. It offers 20 taps and numerous singles-to go. You can also get growlers and half growlers. There is food and coffee as well. It is kind of a half bar half coffee shop. Good for finding singles and tasting flights.“

“Very good selection of Wisconsin beer, particularly New Glarus located conveniently to the highway and the state of Illinois, where unfortunately New Glarus isn’t sold, so it has that going for it. Inside is very clean and well organized and ample parking, even on busy sunday afternoons. All the cheese I’ve bought here has been pretty good as well. Had food and a drink in the bar on my most recent visit and was quite satisfied - in fact maybe the best bratwurst I’ve ever had.“

“Great place...on the small side...but in a good way (you are almost stepping over the brewing equipment to navigate the place...but I found that fun). The people there are great and the service fantastic. They really seem to appreciate and cater to their customers. The KPA is a pretty good beer. I also liked the Hazelnut Harvest they had when I visited. I recommend a visit here when in town (go see nearby Public Brewing too).“

“I stopped here recently on my return from Milwaukee to Chicago to checkout the two breweries in town (also Rustic Road). I thought the vibe and ambiance were great even given it was late afternoon and not crowded yet. I liked the eclectic décor and the woodwork of the bar. The bartender was very helpful an made it possible for me to try flight sizes of all of their beers even though they didn’t divide evenly with all that were available that day. The Bone Dry Irish and Public Pale were good...but I especially enjoyed the Inkwell Black IPA and the Public Access Session IPA. I recommend a visit here and look forward to stopping back another time when they are busier...I think it would be a fun place to hangout.“

“Interesting cross between a beer bar and restaurant. The beer selection is pretty epic, not just for this area, but really in general. Food is pretty good, but not amazing (it is a bar, afterall). Service was really good, they offered me samples of all kinds of stuff (sort of a try-before-you-buy kind of deal, pretty sweet). Overall, a cool spot.“

“Now, I have a slight bias toward this place, because it’s sort of an institution for the Italian American part of my family. Now that I got that out of the way, I can say objectively that the beer selection is pretty great. The store is a little cramped, but they’re doing the best they can with the space they have (obviously wasn’t designed to be a store like this, "craft beer" wasn’t really a thing 80+ years ago when the store opened). After you get your beer fix, they also have a good selection of wine, cigars, chocolate, and awesome Italian groceries and prepared food. I usually grab some homemade gnochi and noodles imported from the motherland, as well as a sausage or sandwich, to go along with my brews. Overall, a pretty cool spot, one of my favorite in the area.“

“I get here about every couple months or so. They make a decent beer, and they have a different vibe than most brewpubs I’ve visited. Good place to read a book, play board games or bar-shuffleboard, and it seems more social than most bars. No TV, and that’s a good thing. It’s a good place to relax and drink beer. If only they were open more hours.“

“Tourist trap to try and ripoff the people travelling between Milwaukee and Chicago. Way overpriced. Nice selection but 2 to 3 times the cost of what I saw in Milwaukee the day before - sorry I didn’t buy while I was there. For all the hype of Wisconsin cheese, they had a pretty mediocre selection of average, at best, cheeses. Many other, better places if you are willing to get off 94 a few miles.“

“Walking in this place w/ their brewing rig front and center and barely bigger than a homebrew setup, I was skeptical but the beer I had were all quite good. There are about a half dozen taps, all of which are the house brew w/ no guests at all. The coolest thing about this place is just how small it is. We got a table in the back tucked in between bags of malt. Service was decent, I dunno if they have servers at any time but we just sat ourselves and ordered at the bar. I’d definitely come back to this place if I found myself in the area again.“

“Dedicated parking lot with outside area. Bar right as you walk in, ten drafts, had New Glarus Apple on draft. Now for the bottle shop rate. Prices are higher than Woodmans. Not very many singles. Some foreign selection. I bought no bottles and had a pint of Apple ale and a growler. Bottle service not that good, but the bar tender is cool.“

“Big dedicated parking lot. This place is primarily a grocery, but has a pretty good beer selection. The six-pack selection is good and there is a small section of singles. Foreign selection is fairly limited. However they did have New Glarus, so I cannot complain. They don’t accept credit cards, but debit does work. Prices are very reasonable here. This was convenient for me because I went to the outlets and picked some beer.“

“Fantastic grocery store that is about 3 football fields long, and has a great beer selection considering its location. I’ve been coming here for years, and it’s my go to place to stock up on New Glarus beers along with other breweries I can’t get in the Chicagoland area (AleSmith, Weyerbacher, Alaskan). Value is incredible here, all NG six packs are $7, and the expensive imports are relatively reasonable. Debit cards/cash only is something I definitely respect to, helps keeps those prices low. Great place.“

“My main man and I rolled up from the north side one fine Saturday. That close to Wisconsin, we had to make the NG pilgrimage. This place was huge, though we only visited the two aisles of importance. Cases and cases of New Glarus stacked everywhere. Sweet Christmas! For those interested, there was plenty of other great looking craft (very much domestic), including other nice Wisconsin breweries like Central Waters, Tyranena, and Ale Asylum. But we filled the vehicle with New Glarus.“

“This is it in extreme SE Wisconsin. It’s an icon for food shopping - and it’s a great place for booze but especially WI beer. Nothing else needs be said but New Glarus. I now live far away, and no one has heard of this place that I’ve know of for almost 20 yrs. Now there’s O’so, Central Waters, my friends at Lakefront (which is available up and Down the Eastern Seaboard), Capital (the same as LF), Ale Asylum, Tyrannea... It’s Woodman’s, whether it’s Madison, Kenosha, and now Aurora. Raspberry Tart, (Wisconsin Belgian Red) Serendipity, Strawberry Rhubarb“

“If I lived in the area, this is where I would go. They have a huge list, and they have a lot of special releases from Wisconsin breweries. Uncle Mikes attracts an interesting crowd. There’s just as many (probably many more) people there getting tanked on Miller Lite as there are people interested in trying the most unique and new thing on tap. Our bartender didn’t really know anything about the beer that was on tap, and even though they weren’t all that busy, we were left more than once with empty glasses of beer for over 10 minutes. Uncle Mikes is definitely worth a visit, but I wouldn’t make a destination out of it.“

The Brat Stop (Restaurant)

“The Brat Stop is always a must stop for me before I cross the border and head home to Chicago. You can pretty much count on it that their store will have every New Glarus available, among many Wisconsin craft beers. In the past couple of years they added a lot of craft to their taps. Also, NEW GLARUS added a bank of 8 taps that is exclusively their beer. They had Serendipity and their IIPA on draft! And don’t forget the crazy good sausage. Be warned. They sound a siren whenever whatever sports team that’s on TV scores. It’ll startle you pretty good if you aren’t aware it’s there. Stop here for an awesome charming purely Wisconsin experience.“

“This is so close to Woodman’s that it is a must stop if you go there. 86 drafts, ok bottle list. About half the list is WI locals, around 34 new ticks for me which is absurd. About 8 New Glarus beers on tap, including thumbprint wild sour. Cheap beers mostly $5 for 16oz. A locals place, which is fine. Biggest draw back 1. is no ticking sizes, with that many taps I want to have more than a couple beers 2. The decor is straight out of a franchised place. Cheesy decor, macro stuff, just didn’t get the vibe. Decent food. Come for the ticks ignore the rest and have a great time.“

“This place is weird - it’s like an Italian Deli nd large liquor store have been mashed together - the first thing you see when you pull up is a small sandwich shop with some outdoor seating - inside is about 50% liquor store and 50% Italian market - very cramped, very dingy, very New York, really - beer selection is quite impressive - slightly above the Woodman’s in town, with a much more impressive import selection than that store - prices are decent - small mix a six - the only down side is that over half the craft beer is on warm shelves with fluorescent lights beating down on them - just make sure what you’re getting is fresh - service is pretty much non-existent until you ask, but is helpful when you do - interesting place - if you are in town for the Woodman’s, you should probably make a point to come here, as well.“

“Largish space in the downtown area - the decor is a nice mix of modern and traditional - hardwood bar and floors, a lot of low, modish tables, a few couches - some games, a shuffleboard table - six beers on tap - the focus seems to be on sessionable British styles - there was a brown, a porter, and a stout, all of which were below 5% - nice - for the most part, the quality was consistently good, especially with the most sessionable brews - the brewer was also my bartender - very down to earth and personable - had a chance to chat with him for a minute of two - he’s been home brewing for 13 years and has a goal of bringing less-represented session beers to the market - reasonable prices - 7 bucks for a flight of six generous-sized tasters - overall, a very warm and inviting space, with excellent service, and quality beer - a place like this would probably do well in a much larger city, so hopefully it will do well here - definitely worth a stop - I would take this over Rustic Road right around the corner.“

“Small nano brewery near the harbor area - warm and inviting hardwood bar space, with a few tables outside - underutilized interior space, but homey - small brewing operation right up front - very limited capacity - bartender was fairly attentive - six beers on tap, ranging from session ales to barley wine - beer quality was all over the map (my ratings of the six range from 2.0 to 3.8) - the mix of styles is nice, but the hit or miss nature of the beer is a concern - brewer seems to excell at the lighter abv, hoppier brews with a more neutral yeast, so go for those - nice pricing - a flight of six was 7.50, including a few high abv brews - it’s a nice space, next to a decent Scandinavian bakery that serves cardamom coffee (grab some when you’re done), but the brewer needs to work on consistency.“

“Small place; a bar with about 12 seats an a few 2 seat tables lining the other wall, not counting the 2-4 tables outside. At this time they had 7 beers on tap, not bad, ranging from a 5% blonde to a 13% BW. The place is very clean, they have a few other brewer options in bottles, and a few liquor bottles on a shelf for those who dont want the beer. A nice place and the beer offered gave enough variety to please most.“

“Woodman’s has an excellent selection of all kind of beers. They have one wall with coolers dedicated to micro and craft beers, broken down by Wisconsin beers, mid-west and national. Another wall of coolers is dedicated to 12pks and cases of macro beers. Then there’s a third wall of coolers dedicated to national macros, and international beers. They also let you build your own six-pack. Their prices are very reasonable, and if you buy four six packs from the same brewery the usually knock a dollar off each six-pack.“

“No matter how many times I visit a Woodman’s, I am always in awe ofthe sheer enormity of the place - giant grocery store with attached giant liquor depot (if you’ve ever been to a Woodman’s, they all look identical) - very large selection of Wisconsin craft beers, including mountains of New Glarus products - they obviously know that people are jumping up here from Chicagoland to grab Wisconsin beer - their craft six pack selection is quite impressive, plus they have a decent mix a six for 8.99 - bombers are a little more limited, but still respectable - imports are lean, but that is not why you’re coming here - excellent prices (ex. NG and Capital sixers for 6.99) - ambience is typical of a grocery liquor store - probably the best Woodman’s I’ve been to in terms of selection.“

“Visited on the way back to Chicago after Great Taste of the Midwest last year.

Really cool place, even if only for the novelty. They have a bar next door to the store so check that out too. TONS of cheese everywhere which is the point. The beer aisle is pretty good too. Lots of New Glarus to be had along with plenty of other stuff. I picked up a mixed case of Raspberry Tart and Wisconsin Red along with some 4-packs of the last couple Thumbprint/Unplugged releases. Will probably stop back in for some New Glarus and cheese this year too.“
