92 /100 Saloon du Bay (Bar) 1529 IRIS LN This place has been in operation (more or less) since 1847. They say it is the oldest tavern in Marathon Co. If it is as old as they say it may be the oldest tavern in No. Wisconsin. Real metal stamped ceilings, an incredible bar with an Italian marble rail. Owner is the local historian and claims the bar was floated up the MIssissippi from Europe....the locals were sniggering, but I know a bit about antiques, and this certainly is an amazingly built and and old bar! You step back in time when entering this place. The Sconnie accents are thicker than marsh water. Fishermen, families and a few bikers. A cheese factory is across the street. No sh*t! There is nothing else in Knowlton!
The beer selection is uncanny considering this place is literally in the middle of nowhere. Farthest north you can get Great Dane beers on tap. Also Central Waters Mud Puppy Porter, Leinies, and Point. A ton of bottles. This place is a gem. I’ll leave it up to you to find it...I stumbled on to it solely by chance..found it hard to leave...harder still to drive back to Madison.
We had some light pub food that was fine. The place is known for it’s pizza - I need to get back sometime and try it. |
