“You come here only for 1 thing, pint of Guinness. You think you've had your best pint of Guinness already and it's not worth it? Well you are wrong. Old Syd serves the best Guinness I've ever had. I remember hownit tasted here 23 years ago and it was exactly as good now. Best Guinness in the world. Go and pay tribute to old Syd for his skills! Must visit place.“

“If you want some medieval time feel this is the place to visit. Plus O'Hara's have brewed some special beer for them. Beers are more less same like everywhere else.“

“This is hidden gem of the town. Please enter from High street way (from up) cause it tends to be bit better feel and service. Mainly Guinness on tap, but you come here for food which is exceptional. Doesn't matter what you take, daily special or from regular menu it's mind blowing.“

“It's called Smithwicks experience and you can have a tour here for a huge amount of money to listen what you already know anyway. Publicity stunt. But at the end of the tour you can get to stuff which are not always sold in hood. Exported stuff and experimental brews.“

“Nice old pub feel place. You can imagine some band sitting in the corner and playing their gig. Very true and authentic atmosphere. Stop here for a pint just for feeling.“

“Mostly O'Hara's on tap, but some other micros too. Unfortunately beers weren't in the best condition. They did flights. Staff was friendly and helpful and patient.“

“Just 5 minutes walk off from the center it's totally worth a visit. Used to be my local 23 years ago and place is still standing well. Some micros on tap, but rest is usual. Had a good chat with bartender about times of yore. Heard that my old mates are still around, but didn't meet them. Next to me was sitting a man who has drunk Guinness for 52 years. Respect. Now off-Licence is another story. Good selection of craft all over the Ireland. Must visit this part is.“

“Brew Pub mit großem Biergarten. Bei uns mit live Musik. Sie haben vier eigene Taps und 8 guest taps. Die Pizzas mit 72 Stunden gereiftem Teig sind klasse! Hier lohnt der Besuch.“

“Located behind a red door and frontage is a small and, when the Irish traditional music is on, popular local bar. There are a maximum of 27 taps, seven of which have rotating craft beers and two of which have cider. Staff offer friendly service and have adequate knowledge while prices are cheap when compared to other bars in town.“

“Located among a row of other pubs, Brewery Corner is the blue fronted premises. The pub sells only craft beers, mainly O'Hara's brand, and not a major within sight. Inside is a long bar on one side while the rest of the venue is occupied with tables. There are fifteen taps - at the time of my visit there where thirteen O'Hara's brews, one with cider and one guest. Up to five of the taps can be on rotation featuring different Irish craft brews. Bottles/cans number about 70, some of which are O'Hara's brand while many are internationals. To assisit in selection there is a very detailed tap and bottle menu. Paddles are available in lots of four for €6 while glass prices are in the €4.60 to €6.50 per pint. There is also an array of whiskey and in case of boredom there is a range of board games available.“

“As far as I am aware this tapas bar carries the widest range of beers in town so far. All bottled but restricted mostly to smaller Irish craft brews with a few larger craft brewery beers. Includes the town’s newest.“

“My wife and I stopped in here after stumbling upon it just walking around downtown. There isn’t much in Kilkenny as far as good beer goes, so I was very excited to find this place. They carry only Carlow beers on tap, and had a pretty nice selection. They also had a lot of bottles, probably over 100 easily with a lot of American beers and other expected beers. I had a sampler and cashed out. The beers were decent, and pricing was fair. I recommend this place for those in the area.“

“Definitely one of the more lively spots in Kilkenny, more of a bar than a restaurant, but the food I saw people getting looked very good. Regular selection on draft with the addition of some specialties like Caledonia Smooth and Hoegaarden, some Belgians too. Overall a great spot to come with friends out for a night.“

“Lovely spot in the heart of Kilkenny, owned by Carlow Brewing for their O’Hara’s range, this is the spot to go to for fresh Irish craft beer. 13 taps, plenty more in bottle. Some specials and hard-to-find’s from Carlow on tap. Service was friendly and semi-knowledgeable, the type that has been trained on what to say rather than an actual passion for craft beer, but that’s ok. Definitely worth a visit if your in Kilkenny.“

Wine Centre (Beer Store)
15 JOHN ST.
“(Visited 11/2012): Wine Centre is located downtown on John Street not too far from the castle and in walking distance from the hotels.

Despite the name, beer is the first thing you see upon entering. The beer is located on shelves on both sides before reaching the counter. Beyond that is the wine.

The beer selection is pretty good, and they were well-stocked with Irish craft beers from 8°, Trouble Brewing, Dungarvan and Whitewater. Some imports from Belgium, and the likes of Sierra Nevada and Milkkeller as well. Many of the beers are available as singles.

Service on our visit was friendly and helpful.

All in all this is a solid beer store and a nice find in the first days of our southern Ireland tour.“

“Thank god for this store, was home visiting my in laws for a couple of weeks and although there is nothing that i love more than going to the pub with my father in law, and brothers in law, the selection in nearly every pub in the area has the same five beers, bud, carlsberg, heineken, guinness, and smithwicks. As a footnote to how bad things are for micros in ireland at the moment, the more popular grocery store, superquinns, actually has a beer with no label or brewing information on it, just a red can with white letters that says, "beer", reminds me of Randy Mosher’s "Tasting Beer" of the same thing happening in the US in the ’70’s, maybe this is the bottom before things start to turn around in irish micro brewing. Went online just before i left and found this place on ratebeer and decided to give it a try, at the very least it would be a break from the beer malaise that is ireland. The owner came right over and asked if i needed any help and i explained the situation i was in, that im getting tired of the un-fab five beers available to me, and that as a beer afficianado, I need something to interest my palate. We walked around the store and talked about beer for maybe 15 minutes before i even bought anything, meanwhile my wife and son are waiting in the still-running car outside thinking i would only be a minute! oops. So the area for beer is not huge, maybe 15x20 feet, but what it lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for in quality, especially if youre from the northeast of the US. Loads of beers that are unavailable in the states or at least in my area. Yes, mainly irish, english, german, some belgian not a ton though, and some eastern european staples. Spent a little more than what my wife was happy with and decided a few days later when the stock i had purchased was finished, I went back for some more. Ive been to most other areas in Ireland, Cork, Galway, Dublin, etc. and although this might not be #1 on the list, it is easily the best in the area, no question. If I lived in Kilkenny, I would be here all the time. “

“Visited on a Friday afternoon in May, this store sells tons of beers from the UK and Ireland, Belgium and Italy. Selection included things like Vedett, Shepherd’s Neame, Coopers, Trieste. Next best shop we’ve seen on our trip (the first being the Abbot in Cork). Friendly staff waited patiently while we filled our cart and helped us bag it up. A good little store, plenty of wines and other spirits to also tickle your fancy, if you’re interested.“

“Nice little shop. Staff mostly ignored us until we came to pay but were available if we had questions and helped us wrap up our bottles a bit. Prices seemed reasonable for Ireland. Range of UK, Irish and imports. We picked up a lot of English stuff as we had already tried a lot of the Irish beers they had available. Definitely worth stopping in. Abbot Ale House in Cork had a slightly broader selection in some respects, but we did most of our bottle shopping here due to luggage/travel factors.“
