“Went there to eat and try some local beer. Unfortunately they didn't have any Waahto on tap, just bottles. Burgers were completely fine and so was the service. Not a large selection of beer (nor a big food menu), but fair enough. Hardly a must visit as the lower ABV beers were also available at the food stores nearby and some of the stronger ones we also saw at our hotel bar. Central location in Savonlinna and just a short walk from the castle or Olutravintola Sillansuu.“

“Nice beer place in a rather central location. Seems to have a decent selection for take away too (limited hours and ABV.). Mostly imports on tap, but some domestic ones too and at least one very local one (from Olaf) at the time of my visit. Decent selection of bottles and a rather pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.“

“Good place to have Waahto Brewery beers if the Brewery Tap (Huvila) is closed. Two own beers on tap and several own beers in bottle. Excellent food. Great staff.“

“In a quest to find local beer in Savonlinna (Huvila was closed) we were directed here. Not bad. They had two of their own (Waahto Brewery) beers on tap. Both pretty okay. The food was also decent. Centrally located and really easy to find next to market square.“

“A quick visit in a quest to find local beers in Savonlinna. They didn’t have any. But they gave some hints where to find. They however had quite decent selection of international beers. Nothing really exciting but hey it’s in Savonlinna. (Visited in July 2016)“

“A nice pub and totally packed a Saturday night. It wasn’t easy to squeeze in a order a beer, and even harder to find a spot to hang around. 10 taps, two Hofbrau, one Beer Here and one from Flying Dog among the most tempting. And, as jookos has described; lots of bottles along the wall. Shouldn’t be a problem finding a good beer here! (Visited June 28th 2014)“

“The city Savonlinna is beautifully situated by the shore of lake Saimaa. It’s only a short walk from the city center to the Huvila brewpub. A nice brewpub! Good service, 4 beers and one cider on tap. Beers can hardly be reffered to as world class, but all were highly drinkable, especially the Live Porter. (Visited June 28th 2014)“

“Beer brewing restaurant on a scenic location by the saimaa lake, within a 5-10 min walk from the center of savonlinna. Good food, a large patio with a stage often featuring music acts (finnish mostly), good beer. The only bad thing is that it’s closed from september to may. When I visited they had 5 of their own beers on tap, one cider (their own also) and their 2009 brewed imperial stout on bottle.

They offer bed&breakfast also, which, at least for me, is the obvious place to stay at when in savonlinna during the summer. They only have 2 twin rooms though, so advance reservation is needed. On the other hand, you will get very friendly & personal service.“

“A nice, seemingly craftbeer- oriented, pub in the center of Savonlinna. English / sportsbar- kind of an atmosphere, friendly service. Selection is decent, or better, Finnish beer pub standard, meaning in addition to the bigbrands a selection of the more well-known craft brews on bottle (I remember seeing a lot of brewdogs, some english, westy12 and other belgians).

What impressed me the most however, was that their bottle selection is lined up on shelves along the wall with easy-to-read price tags. I hate hanging over bar counters trying to spot something interesting, or reading through outdated beer menus only to order stuff you don’t remember as being crap until you see the bottle. Or sneaky prices. The overall experience is just so much better the way sillansuu does it.“

“Visited 30/05/13. Tried the food this time and the beer. The food was world class. Superb and not too pricey all things considered - 48€ for three courses. Boar and goose liver terrine starter, overnight baked lamb with false morel and spelt grain porridge. All served superbly and excellently. The beers were in great shape as well. The saison is good, but the Live Porter was world class. Was served by the owner, a very nice guy. Talked with him about the past and the future of the place. Too bad they’re only open for the Summer.

Visited in July 2012. A brewpub that serves food at a really nice location by the lake with a great view of it. A very nice ambiance over summer (it’s only open then) with a friendly, but not very knowledgeable service. The food’s a bit on the pricey side so didn’t try it. The brews are decently priced for someone from Helsinki, probably a bit steeper when it comes to regular Savonlinna prices though I wouldn’t know. Only their own at tap, I think it was five or six beers and a cider. All rather normal fare from a dark (porter) to two hoppier affairs (amber and golden), a wheat and their first lager. Had the amber and it was very good by Finnish standards at least. Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby or even worth the detour from Route 5.“

“Nice place. Good location. High prices. Good gourmet food. Limited selection. 4 beers and 1 cider on tap. Definitely worth a visit when you’re around. There’s no much more beer destinations in Savonlinna since Sillansuu is closed.“

“An excellent brewpub in the middle of the town centre with a large terrace. Friendly service, good food and english style ales. New owner, new beers. Waahto Brewery beers available on taps and in bottles. Restaurant Huvila is open only during summer time but the Brewery Tap is now open every Saturday at 12-15.“

“A nice brewpub in the centre of Savonlinna with an extremely good location by Lake Saimaa (one can even reach the place by boat). Huvila’s (’Villa’ in English) beer selection in July 2006 was Joutsen, Bitter, E.S.B., Porter and Blonde (all unfiltered). Also, Huvila Cider was available. Tasty beers, friendly service and very good food (not cheap though). There is a large patio with live music in Summer and ’bed & breakfast’ is also available. (see website for further info). My visit took place during the day so, unfortunately, I cannot comment on the evening atmosphere. Anyway, if you happen to be around the Savonlinna area, be sure to step in Panimoravintola Huvila for a beer or two. Note that ’Huvila Joutsen’ and ’Huvila Bitter’ can be bought in some supermarkets in Savonlinna.“
