“Classic, well-run British pub with a good range of cask ales and keg beers. The main room is surrounded by snugs and smaller rooms. A very good vibe early on a Sunday eve with Manchester United and Liverpool (4-3) on the TV screens. Tasty pepperoni pizza. Central location. Polite,, hard working staff. (Visited with Finn, 17.03.2024).“

“The serving bar with 18 taps, beer and cider, is located to the rear of an elongated room. Well stocked fridges with bottled and canned craft beers, as this is also a bottle shop. They have also got a little beer garden behind the bar. More seating upstairs. Friendly service and clean toilets. Central location along the main street in the town. (Visited with Finn, 17.03.2024).“

“A taproom with two floors under the arches next to the Indie Rabble. 12 taps including guest beers, more canned beers in the fridge. Long benches and tables. Polite service and decent beers. We enjoyed a few of their own beers during a Sunday afternoon listening to the groundbreaking music from Joy Division. (Visited with Finn, 17.03.2024).“

“Indie Rabble and Two Flints are neighbours under the arches on the other side of Alexandra Gardens, not far from the central part of Windsor. A smart, promising, well-kept, and young taproom run by women. Two cask ales and 12 taps with their beers and collabs. Four thirds in each flight. We had just a great Sunday session here enjoying all their beers in a very friendly atmosphere. Hit parade by the Queen and Clash during our stay. (Visited with Finn, 17.03.2024).“

“They have open on Sundays from 11:00 but on this particular Sunday, 17. March 24, their Unit 4 Tap was booked for a kind of neighbourhood celebration. We were allowed to order beers for outside drinking. Altogether they stock about 16 taps with flight options. We bought two of their own beer, and enjoyed them outside. Their four-sided taproom is rather large with a stage to the right and the serving bar to the left of the entrance. (Visited with Finn, 17.03.2024).“

“We began our one day out in Windsor with traditional breakfast, for £6.31, at this spoons close to the castle. Quite cozy brownish pub room in the front, unusual for a JDW. Large patio to the rear and also more seating upstairs and downstairs. Six cask ales including four from the ongoing beer festival. Polite service. (Visited with Finn, 17.03.2024).“

“Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Walked in and the only other person was.the barman, although a larger group then came in later. Thought it was smaller.than I expected until I remembered that there was an upstairs seating area where more people.may have been. About 10 taps. Downstairs has bench seating to the front and brewery equipment/storage to the rear. Typical archway set up. Think upstairs may be slightly less utilitarian but as I said I didn't go up there. Decent. Windsor definitely on the up.“

“Visited early on a Sunday afternoon. Neighbours Two Flints had a sign out on on the street and their door open, so I did wonder if the dark neighboring unit was actually open. Doors pushed open and walked into a high ceilinged railway arch industrial unit. A bar and fridge to the left. High tables with benches. The brewing equipment, etc, is to the rear. Decorated with large neon paintings on black backgrounds. The walls and tables are also black. So all a bit dark. Friendly helpful woman on the bar. About 4 other customers. 12 beers on tap, including 7 of their own. About the same number of their beers in the fridge, plus some guests. Decent archway tap set up.“

“This is a pleasant brewery tap in a railway arch possibly directly underneath the Windsor Central Station. Lots of bench style seating with more up on the mezzanine by the looks. Around 5 of their own beers plus guests. Well worth a look.“

“Around a 10 minute walk from A Hoppy Place, next to the railway arches with their varying businesses. Looks like a normal factory unit from the outside but inside this is quite a huge beer hall. The long bar is on your left with around a dozen beers on sale including 3 guests on my visit. Good and friendly service with lots of tasters, flights available. The food looked decent. Well worth a visit.“

“This proved to be a really pleasant surprise, it is what it says, right on a corner, it's a knocked through pub but with 3 distinct areas. There is a long line of 15 Hand Pulls directly in front of you as you enter, all remarkably in operation plus 8 kegs lined up behind the bar. There seemed to be just one Big Smoke cask beer all the others being guests with a range of styles. It's a busy place with office types eating and drinking on a Friday lunch-time session. The biggest downside is the number of intrusive TV screens in operation, somewhat ott. I would say a must visit pub for a tour of Windsor and quite close to A Hoppy Place too.“

“Tourist central pub opposite the castle and a very short distance from the Wetherspoons. Nicely ornate outside, there is no mistaking which brewery owns this with old photographs of the brewery and McMullen's mirrors on the wall. It is set up for dining really, drinkers only are a bit of a bother at lunch time. Small beer range but I did pick up one of their Rivertown specials. Done it now.“

“Just a few minutes walk from the railway station, through an upmarket shopping arcade then turn left at the castle wall and you cannot miss this Wetherspoons. The presence of the castle gives it a bit of an atmosphere, it doesn't appear that large at first glance but then you realise there are 3 floors to it. All the normal Wetherspoons accroutements, although this one is pretty clean and tidy despite the tables being crammed in. The breakfast was luke warm though. Normal range of beers but with the addition of a couple of the currently running Beer Festival beers.“

“Visited in May 2021, with a friend / colleague. The place is very small and a little dark, a small make shift area to sit outside also. There are a number of decent taps and all are served in thirds, halfs etc. The prices are high for both the taps and the cans and bottles, but not a bad selection. I did order online and the local delivery was good, although one of the cans had a substitute without comment, which I complained about and was refunded.“

“A quick update in March '23. I've been to the Tap Room now and it was everything you would hope from these. It's perhaps a little tight round the bar but really knowledgeable people and a great range. On Line order in April 21, during lockdown. This was suggested through Ratebeer and I certainly had good service from them. I ordered beers from many breweries, 11 of which were new to me and all the beers were delivered as ordered. I happened to order when they were having a sale, which was handy, but delivery was prompt and the beers were well packed. No issues at all.“

“One to be avoided in my experience! Ordered 9 beers from 9 different breweries which were in stock. I specifically stated with the order that I only wanted replacement beers for anything out of stock from the same brewery. NOT HAPPY when only 8 were in the box, and one of those was from a different (cheaper and unwanted) brewery. To add insult to injury, that means the cost of each beer to me is proportionally higher because of their errors. I contacted them and asked they send the missing beers. They REFUSED and are refunding the value. I asked if they would please supply the beers ordered, which I had not received because of THEIR ERROR. Or if not, suggested 2 other beers. They REFUSED this too. NB - postage is £9 not £6! “

“A small, but well stocked craft beer hangout not far from the castle. They have 12 quality taps and a great can & bottle selection with beers from some hard to find breweries. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Working wifi. Probably the premier craft beer destination in Windsor. A little pricey, but so is everything else in the area.“

“A planned visit to Windsor was curtailed due to Covid-19 so I've not been to the place in person. However I have made two online orders. I'm always after Berks and Hants ticks and they have these plus some breweries you tend not to see around too much. As per a prior review the communication is not just automated and they were also chatting to people on Facebook. Quick dispatch. My only complaint would be the packaging - on my first order I thought that it wasn't particularly well padded and the second order was replaced them following breakages on route. I hope to actually visit the premises one day!“

“Visited webshop 27/4/2020. Placed order Monday morning, it was dispatched Monday afternoon and received Tuesday morning. Excellent service! Also received a non-automated thank-you email from the owners saying how much they appreciated my order and support in additional to the usual automated emails you'd expect. I'm assuming the webshop is a relatively new thing for Covid-times? About 100 beers/ciders available. Pricing isn't cheap but it's not unreasonable either. Nationwide next day delivery is £6 for an order over £45. They've got some interesting stuff including Mad Yank which is what drew me to their site in the first place.“

“A Hoppy Place is a craft beer bottle shop and tasting room in Windsor, 5 minutes from the castle and central station. There are over 100 different beers, ciders and spirits to try from local national and international breweries including 3 cask lines and 10 keg lines from local (25 miles or less) breweries. The level of beer knowledge is very high, ask about any of the beers or beer styles and the hosts will happily help you make a selection. Regular breweries include Double Barrelled, Siren, Weird Beard, Elusive, Lovibonds, Windsor and Eton, Uprising, Stardust, Binghams and Fishers - but as a completely untied venue this is subject to regular change - expect most of the keg list to update on a weekly basis.“

“Seems that the times were off on here and yelp. I will be fixing that soon. Fairly decent size bar and tap selection, I only had time to grab some beers to go. They had a nice selection there too. Was able to snag a 5 mixed beer pack and glass set. Service was prompt which was great because I had to dash. The roads and parking were my only complaint in this area. Worth a stop if in Windsor or stuck with family at LEGO Land all day.“

“Great location by the castle. Nicely decorated regal interior with lots of wood. Lovely patio area at the back which is great in the summer time. Lovely view of the planes departing Heathrow. Poor cask ale selection. There were just three guest ales of which one was unavailable. Several regular beers were unavailable too. No beer menu. Great location, nice interior but a poor spoons beer wise.“

“A modern looking brewery taphouse, not far from Windsor town centre. Plenty of bar stools, barrels and comfy chairs. They have 12 taps and a decent bottle selection. Working wifi and friendly service. Worth a visit if you are in the area. The brewery is visible from the tap room. December 2021 Update - They now have an awesome new taproom with seating for around 100 people and capacity for 26 tap/cask beers, plus a separate counter for substantial food. Lots of wood and concrete. A big upgrade indeed. Well worth making the pilgrimage!“

“Was slightly nervous about this place because I’d booked it for group of 10 having never been there before. However it is quaint backstreet but, with a friendly local clientele. Staff were helpful, but we did have a massive wait after the main course because they’d forgotten about us. Having said that, the food was extremely good. In terms of beers then there are three hand pumps - two that are of no real interest to me, being the regular Doom Bar and London Pride, plus a guest. This day it was Windsor & Eton Knight of the Garter. Not worth going out of your way for in terms of beer, but if you are going passed it (it’s about 15 minutes walk out of the centre - free car parking on the roads around it!!!) or after some food then I’d recommend it.“

“Visited on 3rd February 2016. Situated with great views of Liz’s pile and over the street from the Carpenters Arms this place has improved a little in recent times. Now has 6 handpulls with a mix of local and national beers, the place was busy with a large group taking up most of the pub. The pub itself is historic (1719 according to the website and is a single room, a little low door is a second entrance. Beer was decent, prices were top end, service good. A decent place and will try it again. Service“

“Last visit, 24/05/15. Back street boozer about 5 or 6 minutes walk from the town centre. Low beams and old school carpet/decorations. Pretty quiet on this particular Sunday night, a couple of locals and a couple of well behaved (older) soldiers from the nearby barracks at the bar. 3 hand pulled cask ales, Pride, a Charles Wells offering and a very well kept pint of Windsor & Eton Guardsman which is an ever present. Service was fine. Next door is Saffron, a very good curry house. The Trooper is no go to destination but if you are in windsor for the evening/night and you like a good curry - pairing the 2 together is well recommended.“

“Been as T Bois’ guest at a Knights club shindig (Cheers bro!) Limited seating but can drink amongst a working brewery, 10 or 11 beers on, all fresh from the pot, the Conqueror was on great form. Have the odd special such as Mulled Magna Carta, get news and updates on the brewery plus chance to shop and pick up bottles. Tried a fair few of the range and all good stuff. Would be nice to launch beers here or do the odd one off to make the freeloading extra special. Membership is a good perk and not that common in UK. Nice brewery, staff are super friendly and happy to chat about beer too.“

“Nice Spoons conversion, maybe reflecting the more salubrious surroundings. 2 banks of handpulls with guests from the local vicinity. Had 2 Spoons specials on plus an Arkells and a not so local Wold Top beer on. In good nick. Service is a bit slow not helped by the touristy crowd. It’s not bad. Likely to pick up something interesting all fall back into the JDW craft daft range.“

“Nice old Nicholson’s pub a short walk from Windsor Central in a cobbled alley way. Range of beer is decent with the a varying selection from across the UK plus the normal Pale Ale. Well kept and prices aren’t too bad for tourist central. It’s a nice old pub. plenty of room and it sits in the shadow of the castle. Tourism and rates. What more could you want!“

“Visited most recently on Thursday 23/04/15 - St Georges Day pints! Located around a 10 minute walk from the castle the Duke Of Connaught is a traditional Victorian street corner boozer with an L-shaped layout inside, patio area to the rear. Tied to Greene King you will find 3 of their beers on cask, IPA and a couple of rotating numbers or seasonal, but the main draw here is well kept Windsor & Eton beer. This is the nearest pub to the brewery, around 500 yards away and as such they promote the tie to their local brewer. Guardsman is an ever present and you’ll ordinarily find a seasonal or 2nd W&E offering on cask, Parklife on this visit which was in excellent condition. Clientele is largely locals and the place can get pretty busy at times with the great Thai food that they serve here being a big draw, but that takes nothing away from the trad boozer feel of the Duke. Service is friendly and generally prompt but sometimes gets a little slow if there’s interaction with the food ordering behind the bar. Overall a solid back street boozer, despite the GK tie I kind of regard it as the unofficial Windsor & Eton brewery tap.“

“Last visit on Friday 10/04/15 around 11.30pm. Back street Fullers boozer, about 7 or 8 minutes walk from Windsor town centre, has been a GBG regular over the years. Medium sized boozer with a decent sized beer garden that was still pretty busy during our visit prior to closing time. Clientele was exclusively locals, as opposed to many central Windsor pubs which are awash with tourists. 5 Fullers beers on cask, ESB, Pride, Front Row, Gales Seafarer and another I can’t recall. Service prompt and very friendly. By no means a go to beer destination but for well kept beer in a Victorian back street setting with a great beer garden the Vansittart may well be worth the walk for you to escape Tourist Town Central. “

Acre (Bar)
DONNELY HOUSE, VICTORIA STREET
“Visited Friday 10/04/15 around 10 pm. The Acre is a social club set up, affiliated with the Liberals, but all are welcome - no sign in or the likes. I only became aware of this venue as it’s in the 2015 GBG so thought it worth checking out. The place was moderately busy largely comprised by a friendly but lively bunch of 20 somethings playing darts. Decor is fresh and smart in the medium sized front room, this is no Phoenix club! At the business end 3 cask lines on offer, nothing too exciting with Marstons, Thrapston and Windsor & Eton represented. I believe there’s always a W&E beer on offer and the Guardsman was in great nick. Overall a cosy enough venue and worth a punt if you’re in Tourist Town.“
