100 /100 Wines Unlimited of Monroe (Beer Store) 600 MAIN STREET Just re-opened with new (yet old) ownership. The store was bought back by one of the previous owners from about 15 years ago. The store received a quick renovation and has filled with wine, spirits, domestic & imported beer, and most importantly, CRAFT BEER! I have to mention their Make Your Own 6pk! Mix and match 6 singles and receive a 10% discount (easy choice when it comes to exploring new beers without breaking the bank). The new owners are extremely knowledgeable and love to help out customers who come through the door. The large space, unmatched service, and huge selection make Wines Unlimited of Monroe a no-brainer! |
78 /100 Maltose Express Home Brew & Wine Supplies (Homebrew Shop) 246 MAIN ST Great homebrew store. Owners have written a few books on homebrewing. Just a large open room with equipment, but they have two dogs and homebrew samples. |
90 /100 Maltose Express Home Brew & Wine Supplies (Homebrew Shop) 246 MAIN ST Really great, friendly owners but some of the prices make you scratch your head. All grains are $2 / pound with specialty grains being $2 / half pound and all hops, regardless of origin/alpha content/breed are $4 / 2 oz. Also, all hops are bought in bulk and distributed into little zipper lock bags and stored in a less than freezing fridge. Not ideal.
Overall, this entire area has only this one homebrew store, but we’re lucky its as great as it is. |
98 /100 Maltose Express Home Brew & Wine Supplies (Homebrew Shop) 246 MAIN ST Great people who are very knowledgeable.
They always have what I need and are always there to help out be it beer, wine or something else you might be dreaming up
You can’t go wrong when you are here. |
62 /100 Glenro Spirit Shoppe (Beer Store) 487 MONROE TPKE As jjpm said before me to say this place is packed would be an understatement. Every time I go back in this place I find more beer because it was buried or just too confusing to pull out the first time. THey have some great finds in here if you are willing to poke around for a bit. They have random variety 12 packs to some nice upper tier beers that most other stores just wouldn’t have. They also have a decent but again disorganized home brew store attached. I also agree with jjpm on this: Be careful of when something was made. I have been burned on that. Buy something that ages well. |
92 /100 Maltose Express Home Brew & Wine Supplies (Homebrew Shop) 246 MAIN ST This place is the biggest and probably the best beermaking supply store in the state. The staff is very experienced in making beer wine and mead and everyone is eager to help. The place can get a little crowded on saturdays, but I guess that’s a good thing. |
92 /100 Maltose Express Home Brew & Wine Supplies (Homebrew Shop) 246 MAIN ST I love Maltose including Mark, Tess and their dogs. Drop in and say hi, look around. You won’t be disappointed imho. |
88 /100 Maltose Express Home Brew & Wine Supplies (Homebrew Shop) 246 MAIN ST It’s not like there are a lot of homebrew supply stores around so when I can drive to one and be there in 20 minutes, I’m happy. What makes this one great is that the staff is very knowledgeable, they tend to have just about everything you need to brew beer, mead, wine, and rootbeer and most importantly, they take care of their yeast supply. This is located in the basement of a small office building, so it can be difficult to find. Not sure about their mail order, but their in store service is spectacular. UPDATE: Their new location is near Ace Hardware and is much larger than their old location. |
50 /100 Glenro Spirit Shoppe (Beer Store) 487 MONROE TPKE When I first visited this shop on my way back from Jones Family Farm, the first thing that struck me was how incredibly packed it is in there. Literally every place in the store is filled making navigation through the aisles difficult. Where they lack in ambiance, they make up for in selection. I recently found some Grim Reaper barley wine, Cavedale ale and several bottles of Allagash Odyssey hidden in one of their packed coolers. All of their worthwhile beers are kept in coolers which is nice. It would be nicer if they were in some kind of order, though. Update, the last time I was here, about half of the store’s stock consisted of six packs that are well past their prime. If you’re going to shop here, do so with caution and stay away from anything prone to going bad. |
