“Thought I’d better give this place a review, since it is on file already but without any reviews. Used to be the brewery tap for the Ashover brewery – which was in an adjoining building. Brewery moved out c2015, but still kept the pub (which is a Project William one of Everards, I think). However, they gave up the pub in 2019, and it was taken over by Titanic. I have been before and after the Titanic takeover, but the post-takeover visit was post Covid, so may not give a true reflection. A solid stone building (I think the half-timbers are fake) that opens directly on to the main street in the centre of the village. There is parking round the back. The car park and beer garden seem to have a tug of war over the available space ! Bar is on the immediate left as you enter from the street. Beyond the bar is a room all covered in wooden panelling, and walls decorated with local scenes (including Ashover Light Railway). To the right on entry is a similar but more sedate room. Straight ahead you go pout the back of the pub to a terrace with sturdy wooden tables and benches, beyond which are more temporary tables and chairs. Beerwise it’s a bit confusing. It used to have 10 handpumps serving 5-6 Ashover beers and some guests. On my latest visit there were still 10 pumps, but only 6 in use – all Titanic. Plum Porter plus 5 of their boring light beers. I’m not sure whether in normal times there would be some guest beers. Food is available with a pub-grub type menu. Prices aren’t cheap, but it is good quality and the portions are enormous. In normal times, there is regular live music in the evenings, and various other events. Accommodation is available In short, used to be a great pub, still a good one, but unlikely to be a place for any ticks. “
