Chandos (Bar)
56 BROCKLEY RISE
“Laid-back, family friendly, community focused. I took to the Chandos right away. It's open plan with lots of tables and the bar up front. There is a side toom to the right which was closed for a private function on my visit. There are a few beers on the main bar - four good keg and two cask - plus an extra cask and 5 keg in the side room bar (there's a beer board incase you can't go through). Cocktails, board games, pizza, a can fridge. I loved this place.“

“Visited on Monday 10/06/19 just after opening at 4pm. The place already had a few punters but as you'd imagine on a wet Monday afternoon it was fairly quiet. Located on the London side of Forest Hill station (turn left and 3 mins walk as you exit) the Sylvan Post was a former post office and as such the pubs name and decor reflects this. One large room as you enter with the bar opposite and off set to the left, there's a smaller room at the rear and a tiny 4 to 6 person snug in the old vault with the strongroom door still in place! Nice touch to the past and something I'd seen once before in a bar that was once a bank in Montreal. There were also a good number of benches out front although I doubt they would see much action on the day of my visit. Staff were friendly and service prompt but as I alluded to it was myself and one other group of 4. 3 cask beers available ... a Cloudwater pale which was the reason of my visit plus something from Tyne and Wear and a Volden beer ... the micro brewery tied to this small chain. Some decent kegs were also offered including Moor, Gipsy Hill and Burnt Mill. I didn't have time to peruse the Bottle list. Overall a great neighbourhood boozer ... not one I'd be inclined to trek out to but for a one off Cloudwater cask tick however if you're in the area well worth a visit.“

Crafty Beer (Beer Store)

“Solid little bottle shop that seems to be open fairly late at night. Owner is very friendly and while not an expert is keen to discuss beer and ideas for product to stock. Focus is primarily on London beers and everything seemed pretty fresh. Beavertown, Kernel, By The Horns, Brew By Numbers, Orbit, Brick and Brewdog are usually among the offerings. Easy parking outside. Not a destination but handy if you’re in the area.“

“Formerly a post office, this bar is set in a very nice location with great outdoor seating. Very quirky interior (make sure to check out the vaults in the back!). Selection is nothing to exciting, (they had some thorn bridge when I visited) but if you’re in the are it’s definitely worth popping in for the interior!“

“Sylvan Post is a rather quirky bar located in Forest Hill, which was a formerly a post-office. The interior is very well-done indeed, keeping previous features and running with the Post-office theme. Staff were friendly and pretty knowledgeable beer-wise. They have 5 cask ales, a few interesting keg taps and a small, but well-chosen bottle selection. On tap they have stuff from ELB, Dark Star, Tiny Rebel, Caveman etc. Although the bottle list is compact there is plenty of good stuff...Beavertown, Kernel, Moor & Tiny Rebel. Easily Forest Hill’s best pub.“
