76 /100 Dartmouth Arms (Bar) 35 YORK RISE Welcome Back!
Recently reopened backstreet local in the Dartmouth Park area just north of Kentish Town. Pub has been opened out into a single room yet retains distinct drinking areas. A number of original features have survived, including the skylight at the rear. Bare floorboards and wood panelling to a height of 4 feet characterise a relaxed intimate decor. Background music is just that. Conversational buzz dominates.
There are five hand pumps, although just three were in use on my visit of 5th May. Small breweries such as Dark Star, Raw and ELB feature among these. The cask ales are well kept. 5 keg taps in use, with one dispensing Guinness. A small but interesting bottle and can range includes Schenkerla Rauchbier, and Five Points IPA. No food until the kitchen opens in the summer.
Friendly, relaxed staff at the bar, and a convivial atmosphere prevails.
If you are looking for a decent pint in a chilled backstreet pub, you are in the right place. |
62 /100 Star (Bar) 47 CHESTER ROAD In the suburban street to the south of Highgate Cemetery, this is a airy and breezy corner pub with large windows allowing a lot of natural light in. It’s an attractive cafe-bar with a small but worthwhile selection of cask ales backed up by a couple of locally produced craft kegs. |
68 /100 Star (Bar) 47 CHESTER ROAD Paid latest vist on 5th July. Relaxed atmosphere. Traditional pub with an adventurous ale policy. Three or four real ales on at any time, sourced mainly from micro breweries although Timothy Taylor’s Landlord is a permanent. Excellent food served. Beers are well looked after, and in addition Belgian beers such as Leffe Blond are kept. Definitely worth a visit. Do note, however that prices are not that cheap, but quality is fairly well guaranteed. |
