62 /100 81 LONDON ROAD Re-rate March 2017: this is more like it. Five cask ales on, nothing too out of the ordinary except for the Sawbridgeworth beer on, although there are four possible ticks for me.
-------
A brewpub in a beer-dead town. Too good to be true? Sort of. The pub is lovely for sure, and the stunning array of pumpclips as you walk to the bar suggests a cracking real ale venue. Well. On a Wednesday evening, only two of the eight pumps were in action: a Cottage beer as well as a (lovely) beer from out back. The landlord was kind enough to show me the brewery equipment. I like this place and I hope that I just came on a quiet night, and plenty of ales are being racked up for the weekend. The Mon-Fri happy hour (£2.80 per pint) is generous, and they’re good value at any rate. |
