62 /100 Fox and Hounds Inn (Bar) VILLAGE GREEN Traditional, friendly village boozer sat overlooking the large village green of one of the most beautiful (but seemingly relatively untouristed) villages in the Dales. There's a comfy bar on the right hand side, and a restaurant (warning - nasty plastic tablecloths!) on the left serving large portions of pub grub at decent prices. The pub seemed very popular throughout the week we stayed in the village, and you might need to book for dinner on busier nights. The beer choice is 4 casks in fantastic condition, and some macros. The casks are John Smith's plus three from local micros. The staff are really friendly, and there was a nice buzz about the place even in the middle of the week. It's a community pub in a touristy area that seems to have got the balance just right. If you come here, make sure you walk the couple of hundred yards to see the rather impressive waterfall signposted down a minor turning at the bottom of the village green - it's pretty impressive, especially after heavy rain (apparently in dry spells you can clamber across behind the waterfall). |
