“Going out for dinner, I fancied the nearby Ship Inn brewpub down by the beach. However, having looked at their website my wife decided she preferred the look of this one. It's very much a gastropub, although a small area of the original pub by the bar is reserved for drinkers. The rest of the pub has been extended into a huge barn-like extension filled with tables, which despite the owners' best efforts with fairy lights and so on has rather ruined the atmos. On cask they always have the house ale (St Mary's Ale from Anarchy, which I suspect is a rebadge of either Blonde Star or Citra Star), plus three other local or regional ales from micros such as Alnwick or Consett. Cask condition was reasonably good. There's also a small selection of fairly standard "craft" brews on keg or bottle. The food is good quality gastropub fare, but the food prices felt on the high side. The service, whilst friendly, was a bit slow. Overall it's an ok pub for dinner, but I would rather have gone to the Ship down the hill.“

“Setting is nice. In front of the village green. Food is good but pricey 3 local ales on cask worth popping in on the way to the ship inn“

“Since the nearby Ship Inn was too busy we thought we’d try here. Huge portions of food which was great. It doesn’t feel particularly special but the atmosphere was ok. There were 3 local beers on cask which is why I’ve added it.“
