78 /100 TRENT BRIDGE CRICKET GROUND
“Large beer festival with 700+ beers and about 150 ciders. This is at the Trent Bridge cricket ground about 25 minutes walk from the station. The festival prides its self on finding new and emerging breweries. Regularly 30-60 new brew for me. As well as local beers also has a national regions covered. Keg bar has 30 beers on at a time.“

“In its own building next to the Trent Bridge and facing the water with a purpose built front decking area overlooking the river. A Brewhouse And Kitchen pub, its own beers are brewed on kit located in the very centre of the open plan venue immediately to your left after you enter - once matured you'll find a decent enough selection of these on the long bar against the back wall. Food served here too.“

“Between the main road and Notts County's football ground where it's at its closest to the river, this is a modern public house design in an older building with a front facing bar close to its windows making it a bright and airy place in the daytime. Food is served with bigger tables available in a larger back area space. Expect to find Navigation brews on in here. They also show sport on the television.“

“Popular locals pub behind the shops on Bridgford Road to the south of the cricket ground. This is a Castle Rock concern with a good selection of their regular and special ales served from a bar located centrally in the building.“

“Suburban public house about 15 minutes walk east of the cricket ground. It's at the lower end of Pierrepont Road on another road off it, which leads to the pub and public tennis courts. A large venue all open plan, it does feel like a sporting clubhouse inside. There's no shortage of Castle Rock ales and guest brews here, mostly cask, they serve food too. It has outdoor space and some table tennis tables too on its rear grassy knoll.“

“Corner place just over the Trent Bridge, and close to the cricket ground where the 14th Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival was held in October 2022. Very good for a traditional English breakfast before heading for the beer festival. It's a rather large spoon, but divided into smaller sections - we had breakfast in a cozy library room. Good range of cask ales spread over the main L-shaped bar, and also at the bar to the rear of the place. We found quite a few festival beers (JDWs real-ale happening) here, served in thirds. Friendly service. (Visited with Finn 13.10.2022).“

“Decent, medium-sized, old-modern pub located close to the Nottingham Canal and just in the middle of two football grounds, Notts County and Nottingham Forest. On our visit back home to the hotel from the Rodin Hood Festival, it was not many people in the pub and a rather laidback atmosphere. Six of their cask ales were on (an amazing range of more than 20 Navigation beers on the festival), and we had a few of them at the pub. Polite service. (Visited with Finn, 12.10.2022).“

“Together with Finn I attended the two first days of The 14th Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival in October 2022. The festival was also known as The 46th Annual Nottingham CAMRA Beer and Cider Festival. This year the festival took place at the Cricket ground, and was, in fact, an outdoor festival. Nothing to complain about when it comes to the beer menu, it was just great, and well selected from different part of the UK. We found picnic tables both days, but there were overall few seating options. Anyway, we had a great time and tasted some very well treated ales. And, we had the pleasure of meeting a few other ratebeerians; so many thanks to danlo, Mr_Pink_152 and imdownthepub for your kindness.“

“Nottingham Beer Festival is a huge, annual affair, always held mid Autumn, October time, which tends to specialise in finding new Breweries giving it a particular attraction. It has been held at several different venues over the years but with this post COVID version it was held at the Trent Bridge Cricket ground with the beers around the concourse. Being outside it had 2 quite cold and windy days and one beautiful sunny day on our visits. It's a must visit if you possibly can festival.“

“This is a very large Wetherspoons right next to the Test Match ground, multi roomed and very popular on match days at all the local sports grounds. I knew this before it was a spoons and it had become quite run down, so it's good to see it popular again. The beer range was a bit pants on our visit and not in the best of condition unfortunately. The food was as popular as ever though.“

“Modernised riverside pub right on Trent Bridge, close to all the sports grounds. There is a large patio area overlooking the Trent with marquees for inclement weather. Inside the pub is very smart with a long bar immediately to the front and seating areas all round. Didn't really peruse the brewing kit but it's there. Slightly atypical of the chain but we'll worth a visit.“

“This is a large pub cum tennis club down in a residential area but not too far away from the cricket ground and the City Ground. It is a Castle Rock pub but with several guest beers in both cask and keg. Comfy and friendly with a decent menu, although we didn't eat there. Well worth seeking out. “

“Visited in the early afternoon, as expected not many people inside. I'd say a classic pub interior with a beer garden outside. Solid selection of their beers and some guests. Their beers were decent, nothing too exciting. Worth checking out.“

“Brewery tap for Navigation Brewery. Busy during a test match at the nearby Trent Bridge, also handy for both Nottingham football grounds. Plenty of outside space. Reasonable selection of both the brewery’s own beers plus guests, all cask.“

“Huge Spoons that gets crazy busy when England play test matches at the ground next door. The beer selection is reasonable at best, some local offerings though. I’d never visit outside of a test match.“

“Forgot to enter this is a Castle Rock bar, and deserves it’s place in the Good Beer Guide for the superb selection of well kept beers, not just from Castle Rock brewery but from guest breweries too. It is also a cafe bar where coffee and cakes are available. There is a function room upstairs, and a well kept bowling green.“

“The Trent Bridge Inn looks cottagey and small from the outside but it’s actually quite sprawling, with several rooms. It’s been given the ‘spoons treatment (we sat in a booth in the “library”) but they’ve retained some of the original features such as the black and white floor tiles in the entrance. There were three regular beers and five guests when we visited but the list was a bit depleted in preparation for the forthcoming international real ale festival. Alas, we were a couple of days too early - a large room at the back had all 50 beers ready and waiting in their black jacketed barrels. Certainly worth noting for another time. (Visited 14 October 2014).“

“This is Navigation’s brewpub, about a mile’s walk along the canal from the city centre. It’s just before the Meadow Lane lock where the canal meets the river Trent. The building looks like an old pub with traditional brown tiles on the outside but inside it’s been given a makeover and seems new and modern. They have about seven hand pumps, mainly with their own brews plus four ciders when we were there. The Navigation beers are solid, if not exciting, and all the ones we tried were in good condition. We didn’t eat but the food looked quite nice. (Visited 14 October 2014).“

“Visited in October 2014. An interesting Wetherspoons. They seem to have retained lots of original features and layout of the original inn. Much wood paneling and parquet flooring in evidence. Surprised to find a real fire burning. 16 handpumps. Unfortunately a bit sparsely populated on this occasion as they were preparing for the festival - they were going to have all 50 beers on at once and were busy setting up the stillage in what looks like the original ballroom of the old hotel. The chap behind the bar was very apologetic for the lack of beers available. Still managed to find a new beer for me. And also a beer that I’d said I’d re-rate back in 2004 but had never got round to! Guess if I’d gone two days later and found all 50 Wetherspoon festival beers on at the same I’d have been pretty impressed with that so I’ll cut the place some slack in the selection score.“

“Visited in October 2014. A Victorian pub that is operated by, and acts as the tap for, Navigation brewery, which is round the back of the pub. As Downender says the interior has been rather heavily refurbished which gives it a comfortable but not especially authentic or interesting feel. The Navigation beers are, of course, the main draw here, and there’s a full range of them in very good condition. I’d put them in the solid but unspectacular category.
It’s a bit of a walk out of the city centre but it’s a pleasant stroll along the canal towpath and on the way if you’re planning on visiting places over the river in West Bridgford. Worth a visit. However, if you want to try the Navigation beers without the walk, the Cross Keys in the city centre has a few (but not as many).
Clientele when we visited on a Tuesday lunchtime seemed to be mainly drawn from the nearby small industrial businesses. However, as the Trent Navigation is right next to Notts County football ground, I’d imagine it might be a bit (too) busy & lively on match days.“

“Not far from Notts County’s ground, this pub is worth visiting if you are in the area, but it’s a bit of a trek from the centre. The main attraction here is the Navigation beers, which are steady if nothing remarkable.“

“This place is probably packed when England are playing at Trent Bridge and it’s located at the end of the famous Radcliffe Road(End), and pretty unmissable if you’re on the main road as it’s both on this and backs on to the International sized cricket ground. I visited in the summer of 2012 but it was fairly quiet as there was not even a domestic match playing that day. The City Ground and Meadow Lane are also close by so football fans will use this place too over the winter, however the pictures on the wall and the local information pretty much stick to cricket given the name of the pub. It’s a fairly big place that’s open plan but split into many defined areas due to the number of part walls that exist here and the pub style is traditional with carpets and lots of wood paneling. The bar area is central in the building and sports the usual dual row of ales that rotate.“

“Visited 16/2/2014. Victorian pub with a heavily refurbished interior that acts as the tap for the Navigation brewery, which is behind. On Meadow Lane by the Notts County ground. Friendly pub that offered 5 Navigation beers plus a few guests and a couple of Thatchers ciders. The couple I tried were on good form. Food was both good value and quality and service brisk and efficient. Enjoyable.“
