62 /100 MARKET PLACE Visited here after my deployment in July 2019. Friendly staff was very helpful even though there was a private event going on. Was able to try the one beer that they had on at the time. Not many Rutland breweries so this one gets a pass on the selection from me. |
62 /100 MARKET PLACE This hotel serves Uppingham Brewhouse beers, which are made out the back. They only have three handpulls, and only one of them was an Uppingham at our visit. As Rutland ticks are hard to come by, we were happy to have come here. We popped in during teatime, and ended up sitting in a great looking dining room alongside lots of guest having their tea and some nice looking cakes. There is a tap room just on the right just as you enter, so if you’re only here for the beer, go in there instead. |
56 /100 Crown Inn (Everards) (Bar) 19 HIGH STREET EAST You aren’t really spoiled for choice in Uppingham, but this pub wouldn’t be a bad shout. Centrally located on the High Street, the Crown seems a bit unwelcoming at first (a sign on the front door says ’Toilets are for customer use only!’ which is fair enough but a bit off-putting) but once you settle in it’s actually pretty cosy. It’s an Everards pub with four casks: three Everards beers and a guest (which on my visit was from Ironbridge), plus Titanic stout on keg. You may get a tick here, depending how up you are on Everards, and although you won’t come here for masses of choice it’s a nice enough venue to while away 45 minutes. Breakfast is amazing by the way. |
50 /100 Vaults (Bar) MARKET PLACE Just can’t get particularly excited about this pub. Four very basic ales plus a guest (today it’s a hot buttery golde). Cramped. Identikit. The service is ok but nothing special. No craft keg or bottles. It’s a Rutland rate, so that’s something but I do hope for the sake of the good people of Uppingham - it’s a pretty little town - that there’s something better around. |
62 /100 Vaults (Bar) MARKET PLACE A freehouse right on the Market Square in Uppingham, 1-0-15 minutes from Oakham. Four regular casks includes a house beer brewed by Grainstone. Two guests taps. Crowded when I visited because the Rugby World Cup was on; nonetheless, clientele and staff were friendly, and service was efficient. Worth a look only if you’re passing through this village. |
