Darkness is a beer of fable and legend. Malty and intense, yet velvety smooth. This special edition of our massive Russian imperial stout matured in Elijah Craig 12-year bourbon barrels and brings waves of chocolate, vanilla, dried fruit, and cherry flavors, enhanced by the oaky spice the barrel and its previous occupant. This year's package is designed by 2021 Surly Darkness Artist Justin Bergo

UPDATED: APR 26, 2024 Boxed can from Wine and Cheese store Clayton. Pours black and thick with a khaki head. leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Huge bourbon and chocolate on the nose and tongue. thick mouthfeel, A previous rater compared to a chocolate brownie and I think the comparison is apt. Hides its booze well. dangerous stuff.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2024 Bourbon, oak, cherry, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Black with nice brown head. Very sweet bourbon, cherry, chocolate fudge malt, and moderately bitter hay and alcohol flavor. Nice body.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2024 Svart med brunt skum. Lukter trevirke, jord, lakris, mørkt brød og snus. Fyldig. Fløyel i starten før heftig alkohol iutover. Smaker salt lakris, smørkaramell, espresso, mørk sjokolade, fat og storbakken. Lang.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2024 Svart med lyst brunt skum. Lukter lys karamell(smørbukk) svisker, trevirke, røstet malt. Mild i forhold alkoholprosent. Myk i munnfølelse. Bourbon, røstet malt. Fyldig. Kraften og alkoholvarmen kommer i avslutningen. Meget god.

UPDATED: FEB 29, 2024 Sample (thanks omhper!). Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is some chocolaty, a bit bourbon and some peanuts and a bit alcohol sweetness. Flavour is floral, some slight nectary and mild toffee and some mudpie and nutty elements with a bit alcohol sweetness and warmth too, but in a good way. Smooth and nice sipper.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2024 --Canned, from Systembolaget. -- Black, small beige head. Peppery aroma with chocolate brownie and bourbon. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Molasses and chocolate mud pie, bourbon, vanilla and caramel. Peppery bitter finish. Remember loving the unbarrelled version of this - now the chocolate mud pie tendencies of it are giving me pastry stout cloying shivers.
