Mortlach (4765) - Rome, ITALY - SEP 10, 2017
On tap @Basserie 4:20 (Rome). Bevuta a Natale 2016. Corpo ancora buono e carbonazione tuttora presente. Inaspettata.

Tap at Basserie 4:20 Rome. black in the glass with a large, creamy brown head. Taste with, some coffe, caramel and wired enough a hoppy aftertaste. Medium to full bodied. A decent beer, but also a very speciel taste.

"i gotta say, the slight nuance of coriander worked here, maybe because there was so much else going on. didn’t know it was an imperial porter, so the jet black pour was a nice surprise. lots of spicy roasted hoppy goodness in the aroma. feel is full, but a touch too carbonated. not bad...i’m just nitpicking. flavor is huge of oats, roasted chocolate malt, various spices and hops. very nice."

Moving an old rating after I realized/learned the Swedish importer opted to reuse labels even with a new beer.

(Bottle) Black colour with brief, foamy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with strong black coffee, anise, liquorice, burnt sugar, ashes, soy sauce and a touch of clove. Malty, roasted, spicy taste with notes of strong black coffee, burnt sugar, anise, liquorice, dark chocolate, cinnamon, coriander seed and a generous cacao bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quiet spicy and powerful, but very nice.

Draft to taster. Keg says "To Via From", so I’m rating it under this vintage. Looks good; a fairly opaque with razor-thin mocha lacing. Smells And tastes good; dark malt and chocolate with some roast, good balance, and a nice mouthfeel. Good beer!

Draught @ St. Urho’s Pub. Rated on 20.02.2010
Aroma has roasted malt, some spices and fruity notes. Flavour has roasted malt, dark chocolate, some coffee notes and spices. Quite similar than other beers in this series.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a thick, lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, a little coffee and chocolate, but a weird hoppiness that doesn’t blend with the rest of the beer. Flavor about the same. Smooth texture. The porter element of this is great, but the hops bring weird flavors that shouldn’t be there.
