(from 11/2010 notes). pours a nearly clear, very light golden hue with a short-lived, 1 finger white head. Moderate carbonation. A The initial impact is that of spicy green apples and wheat beer. The apples dominate. M - a bit watery T - fruity, spicy, wheaty. Nothing bold other than the strong apple flavoring O- a smooth witbier that goes down easy and has an odd, but not objectionable flavor. Result: a refreshing brew with good drinkability. Odd notion indeed. Perhaps a good choice for a dessert beer.

The body has a very pale and very light yellow with good clarity. The head on top is tall and bright white in color. It hangs on very well and makes some slick lace on the glass. I get some modest notes of sour green apple and green apple candy in the nose over a slight hint of bready wheat and dry yeast. It has a light body with sour green apple candy notes over a light white bready maltiness. Hop bitterness is very light as well but adds an almost minty herbal touch. The finish is fairly quick and clean with sour fruity notes quickly fading off the tongue.

Bottle. Thought I had rated before but guess I forgot to put it down. It was like a apple from a farm and not a grocery store. Loved the aroma. It was cloudy and gold in color.

12oz bottle from notes. Really Magic Hat? Odd notions used to get me intrigued, this was just sad. Color was terrible, too light even for the wit. Aromas are meek, I can’t get anything that tells me what this beer should be. Palate is one sided with no finish, slight citrus at the entry. No apple to be seen or tasted.

Bottle from djd07. Thanks Daniel!
Pours an average lemon yellow with swirly carbonation. Nose is body odor, light apple, and dust. Flavor is semi-sweet lemon licorice. Watery on the tongue. Weird.

Bottle thanks to djd07 at the Houston May 2011 RB tasting. Hazy yellow-light hazy yellow-I hate that color. Nose is tart, citrusy but in a bad way-like lots of sugar added to this one. Taste is very tart and bitter with stale apples and a cloying sweetness. Light body and fades badly on the end. Drain poured a 2 ounce sample. Not good-even as a hot summer beer.

Pours a solid golden color that is just a shade darker than cider with a thinnish bone white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of apples and wheat and maybe a hint of sweet malt in there as well. Taste is sweet malt and apple up front with a bit of spicy wheat coming through mid way. A fairly dry almost cider like finish with a lingering spicy wheat flavor on my tongue. Light to medium light body, medium level of carbonation. A previous review said this reminded him of green apple jolly rancher, I couldn’t agree more, the flavor is spot on. Not a bad experiment from magic hat, and no beets were harmed in the making of this brew :)

This beer has a really light yellow color, a little foggy. Minimal carbonation, if any, with a light, airy white head. Aroma of sour lemon (ick) with light yeast, maybe some light grain. Overall, the aroma is pretty unappealing. I’m noticing a trend with Magic Hat. The head doesn’t last long at all.. no lacing, too wet. UGH! And the flavor is horrible. It reminds me of stinky feet. There might be some sort of an herb or root, ginger, lemon... whatever it is, it tastes nasty in this beer. Not all that great, honestly. Light bodied, and the only thing you get out of this is... heck, I’m making a face. Not as bad as it could be... I guess. Don’t waste your time with this beer. It’s a good thing this was a one-time release. Odd Notion beers - realize they’re practically experiments in how weird and bad Magic Hat can make beers. So unless you’re feeling like a guinea pig, it’s probably best to stay away from them. Especially this one.

MaltOMeal (1094) - Land of Sugar, Texas, USA - MAY 21, 2011
bottle shared by djd07 at the May Houston RB Tasting. Pours a clear, light yellow with white bubbles in lieu of head. Nose is of concentrated green apple syrup. Taste is of green apples. Rather boring. Mouthfeel is thin and watery.

Thanks to djd07 for this beer. Pours a light yellow. Nose of crisp green apples, orange and some coriander. Crisp and clean, with a touch of apples and coriander. Not much depth, but not a bad beer to pound on the hot Houston days.
