COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cool. Refreshing. Distinctive. “White” beers from Belgium are still growing in popularity. Belgian brewers are renowned for their innovative brewing methods, and “white” beer is a perfect example as it combines the use of wheat with light spices such as coriander and orange peel. The beer’s distinctive hazy color comes from suspended yeast and wheat proteins. The light and almost spicy aroma makes it popular with people looking for a tasty, thirst-quenching beer.

Since the 70s, Dentergems grew to become the second most popular white beer in Belgium. Named after a small village in northwest Belgium, the beer’s popularity grew until the bankruptcy of the original brewer in 2007. In spring 2011, Het Anker launched the iconic Dentergems White Beer again for the American market, using its own specific yeast for an even more refreshing flavor. So an old favorite is now available again.

Hops: Golding
Wort extract: 11,5 ° Plato

Editor’s Note: Revived brand formerly brewed by Riva Brouwerij (Moortgat)

Appearance: hazy dark orange with two fingers of white head and average lacing. Aroma: citrus (lemon zest, blood orange), yeasty spice (pepper, coriander), some bubble gum, and a bit of sourness. Taste: as the aroma indicates, plus a wheaty cereal note. Finish: slightly chewy and zesty, with just a hit of a lactic, wheaty twang. Notes: Pretty typical wheat beer, which means it’s decently good. After having a few dozen in the style, it seems that there are a handful of terrible ones, a handful of awesome ones, and a huge body of perfectly acceptable ones. This falls into that middle category.

draught@erzbierschof- cloudy lactic-yellow beer under a little white foam; aroma of coriander and apple, gently perfumy; slightly acidic but with a domination of sweetness, moderate carbonation and medium-bodied, a bit chewy and soapy; decently dry with more spicy (coriander, cinnamon) and fruity (apple juice) notes - no doubt: this is a belgian wit

Some spice in the aroma. Has a really clean, fresh taste. Has a nice wheaty taste with other cereal notes and a bit of pepper in the finish.

750 mL bottle. Poured slightly cloudy pale golden with a stark white head. The aroma picked up dry cloves, earthy spices, and bitter orange peel over a soft, honey-kissed bread and wheaty base.. came together well. The flavor found tart and bitter orange peel, wheat, and cloves throughout.. bread and light cardboard beneath.. bitter and a touch tart on the slick, quick finish. Lighter-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. quite refreshing.

Corked and caged 75 cl brown bottle dated 03/21/2011 poured into a weizen glass. Pours pale golden with medium bright white head that dies. Medium lacing, medium body, medium carbonation, and light tart lemon aroma. Taste is tart lemon, slightly grainy wheat, some orange peel, and a hint of coriander. Beer is past its prime.

Lemon meringue aromas. Lemon and spice flavors. Light on the palate. Overall an interesting wit.

Draft… Hazy straw-colored ale with a mid-sized, fizzy, white head. The aroma offers lots of bready, yeasty notes with only hints at citrus and spice. Light to medium-bodied with tickling carbonation. The flavor tips its cap subtly toward the sweet side of balance and furnishes some nice citrus, lemon peel and bready notes. Finishes fairly crisp and clean. Goes remarkably well with smoked bar-b-q. Exceeded expectations.
