The impact of homebrewers on the American craft beer industry has been immense. The comfort level and lack of inhibitors provided by a domestic brewing environment fosters a near limitless brand of experimentation, allowing homebrewers to push te beer envelope to its breaking point. Many of the professional brewing world’s best recipes--from West Coast IPAs to imperial stouts and even sours--began as homespun standouts so spectacular they had to be unleashed on the world in order to improve it.

With this in mind, each year we hold an American Homebrewers Association sanctioned homebrewing competition, the champion of which gets their recipe brewed and distributed nationwide by Stone. This year’s winner, Chris Banker, helped keep us grounded to our homebrewing roots by introducing flavors consistent with our regional apalate. His chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, chile pepper, and coffee-infused milk stout was built to mimic the flavors of Mexican hot chocolate, a beloved specialty from our neighbors to the sout, as our collaborators from Baja California, Cervezeria Insurgente, will attest. Layered with tiers of earthiness, spice, and roast, this creamy, semisweet blue ribbon beer confirms that the spirit of the American homebrewer is not only alive and kicking but thriving at an all-time high.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2024 Yummy but a bit underwhelming considering that it had chocolate, coffee peppers, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, all I was getting was strong stout with a little bit of spice

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2024 12 fl oz can - Pours a deep dark brown colour with a small frothy diminishing tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate powder, and spices. A sweetish chocolatey taste, roasted, chocolate, spices (nutmeg and cinnamon), and chilli flavours with a warming chilli, chocolate and roasted finish.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2024 Half @ Beer Heroes, Chester. Czarne o beżowej pianie, która opada powoli. W zapachu i smaku beczkowe nuty, mokre drewno, ciemna czekolada miesza się z mleczna. Nuty kakao i pralinek, wanilia i przyprawy . Wysycenie małe, dość wytrawne na finiszu. Rozgrzewające

BeerViking (9209) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 1, 2024
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2024 Can from my beer calendar as Stone Xocoveza inspired by Mexican hot chocolate, pours black with a thick tan foam, and with chilli pepper, vanilla, a touch of cocoa and just a hint of cinnamon on the nose. Rich, smooth and delicious, some burnt malty sweetness, a light burnt-bitter bite, more choc, a touch of Bourbon-like vanilla, the alcohol well hidden. Lovely, but it's 'just' the regular Xocoveza with a new label.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2024 Dark brown pour with lasting tan head. Aromas of milk/cream, some pepper and cocoa. Taste is milk/cream, cocoa, chocolate, vanilla, spices for a peppery finish. Not bad...

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2024 New Year's Eve 2023/24 #2- (Can) - Not sure what 'vintage' this is as it's been sitting in my fridge for a while. Cinnamon nose. Dark brown body w/light tan head. Flavor of cinnamon immediately hits you, with chaser of hot smoked peppers. Good mouthfeel. Not overly boozy so hides the 8.1% all. Bitterness in the finish, which lingers on the palate. This one could be dangerous if you had several cans. :-) (FWIW: Most of the can graphics are upside down compared to the photo the original person posted. Not sure why; just kind of funny).

Nocturne (4091) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 29, 2023
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2023 Keg at Malt Dog, Eccles. Dark brown with small head. Flavours are earthy, plummy, coffee, faint heat from the chilli. Works quite well.

flatmatt (2274) - Northville, Michigan, USA - DEC 29, 2023
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2023 On tap at Hopcat Livonia. Pours black with an off-white head. Cocoa vanilla aroma with molasses. Flavor is roasty coffee. There's also cocoa and vanilla, but it's overall strongest in the roasty coffee area, though. Solid.
