COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scarce, subtle and complex, Thomas Hardy’s Ale is the beer enthusiast’s equivalent of rare cognac. Bottle-conditioned to mature in the bottle like fine wine, this old ale/barley wine will improve with age for at least 26 years (and we’re still counting!). Not for the faint of palate, especially when young and brash, maturity brings an elegance of flavors unmatched by any other beer—if you have the patience to cellar it for at least a decade.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2023 2007 vintage bottle at share. I always love to drink some Thomas Hardy and this vintage has cellared well over the last 16 years. Flat brown pour. Boozy, malty aroma, oak. Taste has light brown sugar notes, leather, tobacco, earthy, nutty. So mellow and easy to drink, each sip a pleasure.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2022 Little 25cl bottle, 2005 vintage I've owned since at least 2006. Consumed Thanksgiving day 2022. No pop on the cap, pours a translucent amber, no head. Nose has caramel, malt, port, some booze, a little cardboard, cherry even. Flavors of port, some amaretto, cherry cordial, fruit cake, caramel. Oxidation went away when it had a chance to breathe. Boozy, long, sticky sweet finish.

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2021 2006 bottle stored in the basement. Absolutely amazing how great this tastes after 15 years. Good streak of molasses sweetness, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, a little booze and even a hint of hops. Really great sipper. Honestly almost no hint of age at this point.
