UPDATED: JAN 6, 2020 Very dark brown with tan head. Barrel is a little heavy, but the oddness/uniqueness of the base beer/palo santo wood still shines through. A little hot, sweet in a good way with a slight sour edge to it.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2019 Can't remember what the original tasted like but this definitely ain't my thing. Bourbon barrel influx makes it like a barley wine. Super sweet and boozy. Brown pour with ok head. Caramel and sweet tobacco. Like drinking whisky from an ash tray. Sweet boozy end. Tap at brewery.

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2019 Growler pour. The beer is a dark brown with a beige head of foam. Sweet and boozy. Big raisin and caramel. Bigger, thick body. Moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2019 Opaque black color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Whiskey barrel up front, roasted malts, dark chocolate, some nut, vanilla, and boozy finish.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2018 On tap at Gillys in Rockville, MD. The beer is listed as Bourbon Barrel-Aged Palo Santo Marron at 13.3% ABV. I am guessing that RateBeer will consider it an alias of Palo Santo Marron - Kentucky Bourbon Barrel, despite the slightly higher ABV. Opaque, black-brown with a small tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of dark malt, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, raisins, molasses, coffee and oak. Taste of bourbon, roasted malt, vanilla, coffee, toffee and molasses. The alcohol not concealed at all, but doesn't burn much. Full/medium body and low/medium carbonation. with a rich and silky mouthfeel.

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2018 Black, red edges, not oily and a small Espresso Creme head. Bitter piney aroma but very faint. Hmmm,,,, super sweet flavor. Marshmallow, candy corn, Sasparilla, ginger, a lot of woodiness, meh

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2018 4 oz. draft at York River Landing. The Whiskey is pretty bold all around. Good body and mouthfeel. Strong warming after the sip. Booze feels good in the belly. Easy the best thing Dogfish has done in years. Mostly the whiskey barrel in this one.

Sampled on draft at Hugo's this beer poured a black color with a large foamy brown head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was malty with red wine, whiskey, floral hops and chocolate. The flavor was bitter with red wine, toasty malts, chocolate, marshmallow and whiskey. Long red wine and whiskey finish. Moderately full bodied.
