COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2023 @ 13% abv Längst is our bourbon barrel-aged Adambier, a historic, strong, malty German ale that was brewed with 7 different German malts and fermented with a fruity yeast strain. This Adambier was aged for 18 months in bourbon barrels to showcase the barrel as the predominant characteristic lending to notes of dark, dried fruits, toffee, caramel, peat and leather before being bottled almost still. 12% (from Blend #3 label) I’ve always been a lover of malty, low bitterness beers so the Adambier, although rare, has always intrigued and inspired me. When I began Side Project and had the ability to brew whatever I wanted, I chose the Adambier early on to add to our rotation of Spirit Barrel-Aged Beers. Längst is our Bourbon Barrel-Aged Adambier. This beer is inspired by one of my favorite beers ever - Hair of the Dog Adam. Adam was the first beer that I had that was bottled still, an elegance enjoyed so much, we incorporated it in our "Candles" beers and inspired the low carbonation of most of our Stouts and Barleywines. Längst was first brewed exclusively for and named by The Wine and Cheese Place in St. Louis. Conceptualized after researching, learning and drinking as many examples of the style as I could, I developed a recipe that I felt represented this traditional style, but also had the Side Project thumbprint on it. A little bigger, more robust, while allowing the barrel to be the star and conditioning to a very mild carbonation level, Längst represents our interpretation of this old-world beer. (from https://www.sideprojectbrewing.com/blogs/news/langst-blend-3) Längst is our Bourbon Barrel-Aged Adambier - a historic, strong, malty German ale that was brewed with 7 different German malts and fermented with a fruity yeast strain. Längst was aged for 15 months in a variety of Bourbon Barrels. (Original Release Date: Nov 2016) (Blend #1 from https://sideprojectbrewing.squarespace.com/blog/699ggfe56hrmf5kthjb6zm8r8yfy8w) 11% (from Blend #2 label) For Längst Blend #2, the recipe consisted of 7 malts and was then fermented with a rich, fruity yeast strain. We then aged the beer in Bourbon Barrels until the notes of dried dark fruits, wet leather, peat, caramel and barrel created a harmonious experience. After 18 months in Bourbon barrels, we allowed Längst to condition for an additional 3 months before confirming that it is ready to share with you. (Blend #2 from https://mybeerbuzz.blogspot.com/2019/06/to-go-release-details-side-project.html) This third blend was aged for 18 months in 6 year old Buffalo Trace Barrels before every barrel was tasted and a final blend was melded to present to you. I have found the barrels from the Buffalo Trace distillery to be my preference for this beer and our Anabasis line. Their integration with our malty (not stout) beers provides the last ingredient to pull these beers together and be called Side Project. (Blend #3 from https://www.sideprojectbrewing.com/blogs/news/langst-blend-3)

ClarkVV (13543) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 18, 2024
UPDATED: FEB 19, 2024 750mL blend #2 at Brewing, 2/17/24. Clear, dark, dark amber. No head at all. Spicy nose if you want to be kind. Otherwise, very sharply alcoholic. Bready, light soy. Lots of oxidation and phenolic yeast. In the mouth it fares similarly. Heavy bread, light alcohol, heavy phenol and just a rather uninteresting oxidized malt character with lightly syrupy sweetness and very low carbonation. Not sure why this oxidized so incredibly heavily (or maybe 8 years isn't that unexpected for this level), but it's tough to drink much of it.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2024 On tap at Side Project Cellar. Blend 3. Dark brown with small tan head. Chocolate, grainy, malty, bourbon, medium+ sweetness. Doesn't drink as smoothly as other SP beers, but still quite nice.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2023 Draft. A- Malt, bourbon, raisin, leather, cocoa, dark fruits. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, beige head. T- Bourbon, leather, mild tobacco, mild smoke, treacle, caramel, prunes, slightly woodsy, brown sugar, cocoa. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- Blend #2. Unbelievably tasty. This was wildly complex. So much lucious treacle with a full dark fruit flavor such as raisins and prunes and a nice rich leathery tobacco flavor. Everything just falls together and make for an outstanding ale.

ctipping (4084) - Florida, USA - JUL 30, 2022
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2022 750 mL bottle. Just about black. Smells of strong bourbon, earth, tobacco. Tastes a little less dynamic. Bourbon, sweet vanilla. Brown sugar. Back end has a little earthy bitterness, but nothing like the tobacco aromas. Heavy, boozy. Strong and slow to drink. Smells great, but tastes much simpler than it smells.

nimbleprop (15489) - Southeast, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUL 19, 2022
UPDATED: JUL 19, 2022 750ml bottle pours a thick, translucent dark brown/black with some clumpy, grey head. Big malt nose, huge brown malts and caramel, dried dark fruits, prunes, treacle, some roast, plenty of barrel too. Syrupy in the mouth, lots from the malt, but plenty of vanilla and caramel now from the barrel. Finishes full bodied, boozy and sweet.
